ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

soooo true! they couldn't arrnage a piss up in a brewery! that was the exact prob I said to DH about - i'm hoping he's got it wrong somewhere along the lines and it will be 12 equal payments instead of varying ones - will ask the welfare team thou and report back.

frenziednester · 03/02/2007 08:38

the baby gate thing is v annoying, agreed. I was told when we moved into this quarter that we weren't to be issued with one as it was a (quote) 'trip hazard'. Apparently someone had fallen over one and complained etc etc. So I said 'now that you have told me that, can I go ahead and put one up at my own risk?' and he agreed. I am going to email the AFF now and tell them about this thread and how many wives are unaware of JPA - and hopefully they can put pressure on the RAOs etc to get some sort of wives leaflet put together PDQ.

me again. I don't know how to do links, but if you go to www.mod.uk and type in jpa to the search bar, the first result that comes up is a comprehensive brief about the package. I hope that helps those who were unaware of it. Right, am going for a cold shower now as I am starting to feel far too 'green' again.......

MHS

We are still waiting for our kitchen floor to be replaced after our downstairs toilet flooded. It took them 48 hours to answer an emergency call, water gushing out of the toilet and kitchen and hallway under three inches of water!

Complaint still going....12months later!

Loopy, we have always been able to view our property before move in, regardless of whether its ready or not. Contact the local DHE office, they will be a lot more helpful than Warminster. I may have the number for plymouth somewhere, will see if I can find it out and post later this evening.

Stairgates? We have three...and that's from RAF stores

DH put his travel claim for his trip to Aldershot in on a Thursday, using JPA. The money was in our account by the Tuesday close of business. I think it's quicker than the old system. However, they have to keep all receipts, as JPA can authorise a random audit of any claim that's put in.
We have been relatively lucky with JPA. By lucky i mean that DH's pay has always gone in. We did however have a few problems with his LSSA, and the carry on with GYH allowances overpaid, compared to some problems others have faced, they were minor. A friend of ours works in PSF, and she said whatever we do, don't chnage your bank account if you can help it, as that seems to cause more problems than anything else.
Dh and i had another chat about the pay thing last night, and he thinks that there is no way the Army would change the payments to four weekly, he thinks its just been misunderstood (no offence meant to anyone). The RAF way is for example 24,000 earned in a year, after deductions. This would be divided by 12, which would equal 2000 a month, every month.
Would be nice to get that much in a month i admit, that was an example

no this was a bike - I don't like motorbikes at the best of times! lol. anyhow best get ready to go out, we're off to meet jarm today and her cake needs to be iced still

saltire · 03/02/2007 09:47

I see now shosha. So he's not really a proper soldier then
I response to your other question, I am currently registered with the Care Commission, who regulate care in Scotlnad. This is, obviously classed as a different country, which is why it took so long for me to get registered when i moved, i had to start from scratch. The fact that i had a first aid certificate that was still valid didn't count - I had to do a new course when i got here, i had to get new CRB checks for DH and I, new Introduction to CM course. Everything in fact had to start at the beginning

go here to the thread that shosha started if you would like to see a new topic for forces and their families.

GO ON YOU KNOW WE DO!

Hi Shosha, just thought that since so many people are now on this thread, a link would help

frenziednester · 03/02/2007 16:28

Well, have't heard from dh since this morning, so, I must assume he is on his way to Afghanistan now...however we all know how often things like that go without a hitch, rofl....hopefully will hear from him soon!

McDreamy · 03/02/2007 16:38

feel for you 3andnomore - DH arrived this time last week. He gets to call most nights for a couple of minutes. How are you feeling? I'm having a bad day!

Judy1234 · 03/02/2007 16:56

I am not sure I could bear to be married to someone who is away a lot but are there not also forces husbands and they sit at home looking after the children whilst the wives are away with the army etc or is it just 100% horribly sexist?

frenziednester · 03/02/2007 17:03

Yes there are, and there are also couples where both parents are in the army and both mummy and daddy have to take their chance at being away, which is why I left - I wanted to be sure that at least one of us was a constant presence, and didn't enjoy the job that much enough for there to be any significant clash of interests.

Thats ok Jilly going for a rare night out so more bumps by peiople the better

McDreamy · 03/02/2007 17:11

same as me frenzied - the terms and conditions you have to agree to on return from mat leave were too much for me and so I left too. There are certainly plenty of mums who do do it though.
