ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

OP posts:

Hi there
What a great thread!! I am an army wife based in chester. I am new to this game as we only married in May 06, pregnant by July and due April (obviously)!

It is really interesting reading about your experiences. At the moment, I am OK as our MQs are fine and tbh, we are just enjoying spending more time together as almost our whole relationship has been seeing each other at weekends.

However, a couple of weeks after LO is due, DH is off on a course in Kineton for 6 weeks (only home at weekends) and then possibly Iraq.

I am sure I am still at the novelty stage though!

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 15:56

sounds very femiliar to me

tinytotmummy · 02/02/2007 15:57

Ooh, been wanting to start a thread like this for ages! My DH is RN, and is currently shore based in HMS Nelson, Porstmouth. I am in RAF MQ's in Cornwall, as I can't stand Portsmouth/Gosport and I'm a bit of a country bumpkin. DH been in both gulf wars, and did a six month deployment to Russia when DS was two weeks old.

He is currently, and has been for the last two years, doing week on, week off rota, which means he goes away for a week and then comes home and gets under my feet for a week! It really screws with my routine

Being deployed to Raleigh at the end of March, to serve out his last 18m. However, no MQs available for us so we will have to have a private rental provided by DHE. Anyone had any experience of this?

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 15:58

gonna sound real dence but what does btw stand for i this is all new to me

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 16:01

never had any experience period but you could end up with a much better house and still dont pay that much for it so could end up trumps hopefully

munz · 02/02/2007 16:09

tot and what's wrong with pompey? (it's my home town btw! lol - althou yes cna't say as I blame you for not wanting to go there/gosport.

to my knowledge, (and this is only 3rd party info as a friend was in private rented in wales) everything was as normal with the rent, etc, and bascially the rent came out of the wages as normal, they paid the same rate we did however they had a huge 3 story town house in the centre of town with a huge garden etc. the army paid the difernce in the rent.

lisa - btw is by the way (there's an acroms list at the top)

so boy now has a bum change and DH is awake! lol. anyhow,

have any of you also heard aboutt he new pay thing coming in from april? apparenlty they're going to be paid every 4 weeks instead of the last day of everymonth, I can't see it effecting too much of everything - as long as they get things right - knowing the amry they'll really cock it up somewhere along the line.

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 16:11

ok thanks im gonna blame it on being blonde the best thing for it i think

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 16:17

ok another blonde moment and we do swim on a wednesday and i now know who you are are you ok and glad you managed to wake you DH wish i could do the same meant to be going away for the weekend with baby but he just wont wake up

lisaABC · 02/02/2007 16:24

im off now finally managed to wake dh so am going away for the weekend after all yay see ya

saltire · 02/02/2007 16:25

Oh munz, the Army aren't going over to JPA are they? The RAF got it last year and what a fiasco it was. When it was introduced (in April) some people didn't get paid, some far too much, and one guy i know changed his bank account the week before and for a couple of months his money went missing - it wasn't in his new account or his old one.
According to JPA my DH has 46 days of leave left to take before April, even though he had 2 weeks in September, a week in october nad some days a couple of weeks ago. They also made lots of c*ck ups with leave passes etc. DH didn't get LSSA while he was away, it was introduced while he was OOA, and he got it back dated but of course had loads of tax to pay. i think it was Septembe rwhen he got it, and he got back in June
It means they get paid the same amount every month, we do still get it on last day of month though.
Here's an example. Dh was at Aldershot in november for 3 weeks, he came back, put inh is travel and expenses claims, which were paid. Then in December they paid him £375 GYH allowance, which he obviously didn't qualify for. He phoned them and argued, but they said he did qualify. What happened - £375 less in this months pay

munz · 02/02/2007 16:44

apparently yes it's that system but instead of it being the last working day of each month it's every 4 weeks. (same amount i'm pleased about for budgets etc but not happy the changing of the bills etc for DD's as they're all set to the first so we know where we are iycwim.) still that's a minor thing IF it all works out - which i'm not expecting as I say the first 6 months we were married in wales he was getting charged for single accom, and MQ, but paid married un accom then paid for food only it was a cock up - at one point his wages were £195 for the month thank god I was working and we didn't have kids.

with this system they can maintain the unicom apparently??? but can't do their own leave/admin etc just the kin forms etc and check leave etc and wages in advance etc.

it sounds stupid to me if we're on one system the raf's on something else and the navy prob have a completely diff thing again - surely we should all have the same/silimalr things for pay? DH recons this is what his friend in work said today - so watch this space!

munz · 02/02/2007 16:45

OOH DID YOU FIND OUT YOUR POSTING SALTAIRE?

(opps sorry)

have a good w/e lisa! lol - it's not blonde moments it's mummy moments! lol, or end of the week ones!

saltire · 02/02/2007 16:49

Well ours is definately still last day of month, which is just as well really, and DH can do his admin - travel claims, leave passes etc online as well as check different things. We are lucky, apart from the leave thing we've had no problems.
