My friend's 6.5 year old cries every day going to school, won't be left at birthday parties, can't do extra curricular activities without her mum .... for this reason. Child is lovely but a shocker in this way.
As a result my friend has been a lot more easy going with her DS and at 3 he is much more laid back.

I'm a blimp parent I think

I don't move much

desperateSCOUSEwife · 02/11/2006 10:12

I will happily leave my kids in good hands of family and friends

to go out on the piss, shopping etc etc

I do have a life apart from the kids

od dear god i am not one of those. dd1 disappears at friends houses, our house too for ages and i do what i like. same at toddlers etc. she escaped into the playgroup last week and i left her there for a bit and she thought it was great.

benign neglect more my parenting style.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2006 10:12

Oh, I think my parents got theirs from the phone book. Or the zoo.

I've never left my kids in the care of my parents, btw - well, my dad, now, while DS2 is having a nap. And DS1 was talking before I'd leave the ILs in charge of him.

northerner · 02/11/2006 10:13

Well ds's school was closed yesterday (they had a fire on Tues) and I had to work so sent ds to my boss's house and hios wife looked sfter him. He had never met er before.

Do I get a medal?

TheDaVinciCod · 02/11/2006 10:13

If he's 7 months, you can leave him for a few hours...

my brother thought iwas ott for not letting mum babysit until he had his own child. he saw what she was like while he was still in the room and cancelled his planned night out. first one since his boy was born 9 months before.

QuootiePieBANGERSandMash · 02/11/2006 10:20

Cod

Why?

macwoozy · 02/11/2006 10:20

My ds is 6 years with SN's, and I've never even had one evening out with my partner{his dad} for the past 6 years without ds. Before I got pregnant, my life was spent around pubs, restaurants, gigs etc but unless I go out with my mates it's just not happening anymore.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2006 10:21

Cod, my ILs? Or someone else's?

I never really had much chance to let my mum babysit ... oh, I lie, I left her and my dad with a sleeping DS1 when he was about 18 months, so I could go out on the piss with my mates back home.

But I could never have left her in charge of an awake baby or child - she was blind, really, but convinced she could still see. This resulted in many "hilarious" consequences.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 10:22

I never leave my kids with anyone. What of it?

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 10:26

No, it isn't. DS1 goes to preschool 5 mornings a week (I assumed when you say leave them with anyone, you mean a babysitter/relative). He settled on the first day without a murmur, surrounded by other kids screaming in terror and clinging to their mothers' legs. I don't believe school will bother either of them one jot, they are extremely confident and happy kids.

You're a nob sometimes cod, do you know that?

Gobbledispook · 02/11/2006 10:26

If all works out - mine will be staying over night with my friend - so she will have two 5 year olds, one 4 year old and two 2 year olds!! Ha ha, she's nuts!!!
