3yo DS and I were baking muffins on Sunday, he called flour 'pastry powder' Grin

I don't imagine that one'll stick once he knows the real word, but DH calls quiche 'egg cake', and friends of ours all call raspberry jam 'pink jam' since the kids named it years ago.

Any more?

My DD used to go to gym-lastics Smile

Lemurs are called "move it move it monkeys" in our family since ds clouldn't remember what they were called but clearly remembered them from Madagaskar, the movie.

I love these! 20mo DS calls the programme 'Wheeler Dealers', 'Man Tool Car' Smile

StillSquirrelling · 01/10/2014 09:10

Ours still play on their 'hopper bounce' in the garden (space hopper).
Daddy-long-legs are 'flying spiders'
For about a month last year, the girls would refer to their dinner by the name of one of our, newly deceased, slaughter lambs. So spaghetti bolognaise became 'spaghetti Timmy-aise'. Shepherd's pie became 'Terry pie' etc etc.
Not too odd but it did become a little awkward when the teacher asked me after school what Terry pie was!

oldestmonster · 01/10/2014 09:14

DS , who started at university yesterday, still calls birthday cakes Happy Cakes . All of us do since he first said it at 2 years old. Umbrellas were also confused rather aptly as Underbrellas.

BedfordshireSarah · 01/10/2014 09:20

DD saves her pocket money in her "money pig" and if your get stung by nettles you have to hunt for a "doctor leaf".

Momagain1 · 01/10/2014 09:20

Years ago, when everyone still carried them, my brother called a Handkerchief and hunk-a-shirt.

And Yesternight is a real word I think.

TiggyD · 01/10/2014 09:21

"Underbrella" for umbrella.

Shesparkles · 01/10/2014 09:23

Twiggy you too the words out of my mouth! My dd who is now 17 started that word in our house and it's stuck Grin

katd999 · 01/10/2014 09:24

My dd used to call mayonnaise white butter

Hillfog · 01/10/2014 09:25

Beef burger = Cow biscuit

bebumba · 01/10/2014 09:27

When Ds was about 2 he came through to our room one night to tell us he he had done "an orange yawn," in bed. When we went through to investigate there was sick everywhere.

TheHandmadeStaleBread · 01/10/2014 09:27

My DS who is 4, asked me why I had special clothes for my milks. He meant my bra, and obviously has clear memoirs of me breast feeding his baby sister last year...

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 01/10/2014 09:30

Butterflies are always 'flutterbys' in our house. Because they do indeed - DS1 was insistent for ages that it made perfect sense.

Floggingmolly · 01/10/2014 09:32

I love "dead cow"!! Grin

Wigeon · 01/10/2014 09:32

DD, aged 3, called DH a 'toe dresser' when he was cutting her toe nails, because a hair dresser cuts hair...Smile

ApocalypseNowt · 01/10/2014 09:33

This thread is too funny Grin

cat garages and the orange yawn are my personal favourites so far.

ReluctantCamper · 01/10/2014 09:34

Arf @ orange yawn. DS calls adults 'adverts' on the basis that they're both boring I think.

TinyDancingHoofer · 01/10/2014 09:35

orange yawn is hilarious

BetweenDogandWolf · 01/10/2014 09:36

DD calls eyebrows eyebrowns Smile

LauraChant · 01/10/2014 09:37

DS thinks company names that are not entirely literal are ridiculous. Penguin for example should be called "The Book Company". When I asked what, say, Harper Collins should be called he said "The Other Book Company".

LingDiLong · 01/10/2014 09:44

I love all these, orange yawn is fantastic! We also had lasterday for yesterday and bouncaline for trampoline. When we got a new leather sofa my then 3 year old used to call it the 'dead cow sofa'. Sudocream was always 'bum paste'.

BippityBoppity · 01/10/2014 09:46

DD thought that if you have a uniform, then obviously I would have a meniform

MissMole · 01/10/2014 09:46

DD wore a balletard to dancing lessons.
A cosytoes or foot muff was a cosyfoot, course.
