Hello I have a DD 2.6 and a 9mth DS. My DD is now interested in what boys bits are because she sees them in the bath every day.
What do you call the genetalia with your children?
We've slipped into 'tinky winky' for his little willy but what do you say for a girl? I can't remember having a childhood name for mine!

front bum and back bum in our house

My sister apparently told our gran that she had a VAGINA really loudly once (can't remember the context). My mum was told off for telling her 'such words'.

lol

I will introduce proper names when they are older, sorry HC!

Tuppence and tinkle in our house!!

housemum · 20/07/2006 18:37

DD1, having had the sex ed talk at primary school, was in a communal changing room with auntie and male cousin who started saying "look at my willy", to which she replied, "actually it's a penis and I have a VINEGAR!"

Alligator, yes we do use different words as you say, 'Tummy for the digestive area, Food pipe rather than oesauphagus (sp?), wind pipe, funny bone, gullet' ... but at least we agree on these. 'Tummy' and 'funny bone', can be understood by everyone and therefore are part of our common parlance.

All these tuppence's and twinkies and whatever else they are called are made up. What if I decided my kids should call their tummy their 'front back' or their legs their 'flippies'? It would cause problems and lead to hang ups because no-one else uses these terms.

harpsichordcarrier · 20/07/2006 19:00

also, no one really expects a child to say oesphagus - whereas it's just as easy to say penis as "tinkywinky", vulva as "foofoo" or whatever. Easier, actually.
and, tummy is a generic word for your digestive area i.e. an area you can't see or distinguish between, because they're internal. You can't see your stomach/lower intestine etcetc but you can see your vulva. yet no-one wants to mention
that's the difference, I think

jabberwocky · 20/07/2006 19:10

It appears I am in the unimaginative minority. We just say penis and vulva...

harpsichordcarrier · 20/07/2006 19:23

yesyesyesyes! marvellous
gosh you have no idea how cheering that is to me
I appreciate you haven't done it just to pleasme or anything

housemum · 20/07/2006 19:31

...can i just show off? DD age 3 says that her food goes into her tummy down her "'soffagus" (she had a pop up body book and this one stuck - not literally, obviously she din't eat the book...!)

Oh, and have only just now seen your earlier post, so no, didn't post it just to please you, but I'm happy that it did

bouncyball · 24/07/2006 22:29

I'm very impressed with two things
a) that this is still going on I've travelled hundreds of miles to see my dad who's very ill and decidied to look at this for light relief and now we're up to 161 messages WOW
b) that after children anyone can still see their vulva harpi yet alone ditinguish it!!!!

Missed this thread earlier, how?!?

dd is 2 and I am mostly of the Harpsichord school of thought (in English, don't know correct word for vulva in our other language ). The other day, in a crowded park, dh mentioned he was going to go for a pee and dd shouted gleefully 'with his PENIS! Daddy has a PENIS!'

Not sure if 'Daddy has a WINKLE!' would have had quite the same effect...I wonder...

Tillyboo · 25/07/2006 11:24

That's given me a giggle !

My darling dd 2.4 mths calls her bits
a) mimi
b) botbot

Botbot · 27/09/2007 20:44

Tillyboo, I've just seen your post (two months later!)
