Hello I have a DD 2.6 and a 9mth DS. My DD is now interested in what boys bits are because she sees them in the bath every day.
What do you call the genetalia with your children?
We've slipped into 'tinky winky' for his little willy but what do you say for a girl? I can't remember having a childhood name for mine!

Boy bits and peices and dinkle

Mine as a child was referred to as washing your marigold.

harpsichordcarrier · 19/07/2006 21:35

yes, I think the trick is probably to start using it with confidence from an early age. and if you are embarrassed, not to show it. once they get to school, they can call it what the hell they want I suppose, but at least they knowthe proper name and you have had an influence on how they feel about it.

I feel all introspective now. Why didn't I use it from an early age? hmmm. I wish I had used the proper names from the start. I have to admit though, I'm pretty sure I learned vulva on here!

MamaG · 19/07/2006 21:37

You stole my name

nooka · 19/07/2006 21:37

but I do really like the term ladygarden (for my personal use)

fishmitten · 19/07/2006 21:39

harpsichordcarrier · 19/07/2006 21:39

you see - let's take that an example: "marigold" - only to be referred to when "washing" it. natch.
fragile little flower.
hmmmm.

HC, I think you had a point earlier when you suggeste naming all body parts after Teletubbies. Leastways, it has suddenly occurred to me that when the teletubbies were thought up and names were needed for them, someone decided to use all their childhood names for private parts. Tinky winky = penis, Dipsy = clitoris, Laa Laa = vagina and Po...well it is a faux polite word for the loo isn't it?

harpsichordcarrier · 19/07/2006 21:44

you're right DG - some people do call their vulva a lala!
we have unearthed a conspiracy!

fishmitten · 19/07/2006 21:46

speak for yourself, I had a section last time and my fishmitten remains pristene!

curtaintwitcher · 19/07/2006 21:46

pmsl @this thread...some of these names are classic.

fishmitten · 19/07/2006 21:47

Oh, I gotta tell dp to pay more attention to my dipsy

poor bb!

tenalady · 19/07/2006 21:48

My Grandmother was the one that called it a marigold. I remember as a little girl that it sounded nice and pretty so maybe it wasnt such a bad idea.

DumbledoresGirl · 19/07/2006 21:49

BTW, I am but a poor innocent, what alternative words are there for the clitoris?

harpsichordcarrier · 19/07/2006 21:50

some people say bean, DG
e.g. flicking one's bean.
or button.
