I've got it on its folded down version because DS is only diddy, but it all wicks from the lining bit round the front... Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way to stop it folding forward a bit and wicking?

If not, I might have a nappy to sell you :(

I'm still hopeful though

anchovies · 16/05/2006 19:45

Agree flamesparrow, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong! It has now been donated to ds1 as his nightime nappy, fits him a treat (no popper problems!) and is exactly the same size as a disposable.

TheFlameWhoWasAfraidOfTheDark · 18/05/2006 15:59

Think I've sussed it!!! Grin

The front was folding down, but the inside was staying all big and floaty and getting in the way - just tried making sure that that bit was folded too as I did it up, and it looks much neater and contained round the belly...

Will let you know!!!

Hope it works! Will be waiting with baited breath...Grin.

MrsDoolittle · 18/05/2006 17:09

So? I'm waiting to order Smile

TheFlameWhoWasAfraidOfTheDark · 19/05/2006 12:07

pmsl - Dopey here didn't check where she'd folded it down too....when little man had soggy inner thighs, I spotted I'd folded it down, then stuck it out of the leg bits!!! GrinBlush

BUT The waist problem was fixed. I think its gonna be one that only I can use because there's no way DH will fold it right - he can't even remember to check that the night nappy is in the wrap properly!!! Angry

It will be great when he is bigger and on the medium size though.

Psst Mrs D.... ordered a wonderoo... will kepp you informed Wink

Hi there!
I'm getting interested on this bumgenious....
I'm currently using modern baby nappies and it works fine for us.

I'm big on cheap cloth nappies Blush! However, Ds is a massive wetter! and while the modern nappies with an extra insert hold his wee, he is sopping wet and stinks!! So... DH is talking aboput putting him in disposables at night Shock!
Also, DS goes to a nursery that accepts clothies, but I find it impossible to wash 5 nappies and wraps every day! The only way to get done would be to use the drier....
So this long novel is to ask... Would bumgenious or other pocket nappy solve both problems - i.e more absorbant and easier to use and dry for the nursery???

Any thought on the perfect nappy I should invest on?

TheFlameWhoWasAfraidOfTheDark · 19/05/2006 13:35

Be strong with nights - disposables leak too!! I don't know about bumgenious for night, but a boostered size 2 fluffle does DS & DD (12 weeks & nearly 3). Just 2 folded microfibre cloths from the pound shop works for us for boosters.

Hopefully Bonym will be along in a minute with the rest Grin

MrsDoolittle · 19/05/2006 13:50

lua - have you looked at a minki huggle for nights?
Sounds to me that's what you need

lua · 19/05/2006 14:02

Mrs.D the hoggle does look scrummy, and probably a good solution for night!

However, I am a cheap nappy person Wink.... and would like to find a solution for night and nursery... So I am more looking for a pocket because I think it would be easier to use at the nursery, and I could keep add booster? I am completely unexperience with pocket ones, so maybe they won't fit the bill?
I also would like them to dry fast, without a dryer... Am i kidding myself that there is such a thing?

MrsDoolittle · 19/05/2006 14:25

I think you are going to struggle to get something super absorbant and quick drying. Personally, I don't think that pocket nappies have the containment for night time.
What about the Minki waffle?

BonyM · 19/05/2006 16:26

Agree with MrsD. Pockets are great for ease of use and bumgenius are particularly fast-drying, BUT none of the pockets that I've tried have the absorbency of, for example, a Bamboozle. If you try to put too much in the pockets to make up for this then they just get too bulky and this can make the legs leak.

We use a Bamboozle at night and tbh, don't even have to boost it - they're fantastically absorbent. I do have a Huggle as well but have only used it once or twice before finding that Bamboozles are just as good for us. It's incredibly bulky and dd's vests won't do up over it.

Of the nappies that I've tried, I would say a Bamboozle should solve your containment problems lua, and the aplix ones are easy enough for a nursery to use, but they do take ages to dry. I hear that Fluffles are pretty good and fast drying, but not tried them myself - not keen on the feel of microfibre.

anchovies · 19/05/2006 16:50

I love bamboozles and fluffles! Bamboozles are brilliant absorbancy wise but consequently take ages to dry where as if you don't mind microfibre, fluffles dry incredibly quickly. Personally not so keen on the minki waffle, the leg elastic seemed to always dig in no matter how loosely I nippered it.

Agree about over boosting the bumgenius. Ds doesn't normally wee in the night now he's potty trained otherwise there is no way we'd get away with a bumgenius, you don't have to put much in the pocket before the legs go wrong.

lua · 19/05/2006 20:18

right. it is a dream....

i'll invest on a few bumgenious for nursery, will have to think harder about evenings...
thanks all for the tips!

MrsDoolittle · 19/05/2006 21:42

That's really useful BonyM. I have been wondering about a bamboozle, I have just bought a couple of waffles. I think I'll look into a couple of bamboozles - I think ds is going to be a heavier wetter than dd.

BonyM · 19/05/2006 21:52

If you're going to get Bamboozles, then I've found that for some unknown reason the aplix ones that I've got are more absorbent (and have stayed softer) than the nippa ones. It may just be coincidence, but if I were to get any more then I would go for aplix rather than nippa.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2006 11:22

I got a Bumgenius in the post this morning to try...

anchovies · 20/05/2006 12:08

Ds2 did a big bf explosion poo in the bumgenius and it is all stained - boo hoo!

SoupDragon · 20/05/2006 13:19

Noooo! Don't say that! Surely it'll wash out like it does from vests?

anchovies · 20/05/2006 13:46

It all came out of the suedecloth bit on the inside but has stained all along the plasticy bit on the leg cuff :(

SoupDragon · 20/05/2006 13:49

Hmmm... it's that sort of thing that make me averse to using washable nappies. I can't bear the thought of stained nappies. This is my first foray into washables - it's sitting in my change bag waiting for DD to need changing!

anchovies · 20/05/2006 13:56

To be fair I've had 3 months of poo explosions and this is the first staining incident! But I know exactly what you mean about stained nappies (yuk yuk yuk)

lua · 20/05/2006 14:38

I have no experience with bumgenious but I have never a cloth diaper that remained stained forever, IYSWIM... rest assured soupy!

Anchovies, try hanging them in the line for a few days. Sun usually bleach them magically away.
Hope it works for you!

BonyM · 20/05/2006 15:03

Some of my Bamboozles seem to be permanently stained as well, despite always using liners. Am waiting for some sunny days to try the bleaching trick...

SoupDragon · 20/05/2006 15:06

OK, BabyDragon is in the nappy but a couple of questions...

does the more padded bit of the insert go at the front or the back?
How can it not wick at the legs when the liner fabric meets the watterproof outer outside the elasticated legs? I can't see how it's not going to leak everytime it gets wet.

On the plus side, given that she's a chunky baby, it doesn't make her look enormous in the bum region :o
