right

  1. this is for any kid over hte age of 2
  2. imo the best age ie 2 - 2.5
  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

No other issues. He's bright and sociable.

When we tried before he was initially motivated by chocolate treats and pants with diggers on that he chose in Tescos (god bless 'em , 5 pairs for £2 !)

However he never ever told me when he wanted a wee even after 4 days he just wet himself and looked disappointed. I tried taking hime every half hour but he would sometimes manage only a dribble and then wet himself big time 10 minutes later. He did poos as soon as I put on a nappy for bedtime or sometime in the night or worse still "dropped a couple of friends off at the pool" whilst in the bath.

Any suggestions. Baby no 2 arrives hopefully in September and I don't mind changing two sets of nappies but it's finding the time to go through with potty training with a new born to look after that's focussing my mind right now.

He prefers to use a toilet with a padded insert seat if you know what I mean, rather than a potty and most night he wees on the toilet before he gets into the bath.

did try with both ds1 and ds2 at 2.5 - they just didn't geddit lol and I got bored after 3 weeks Grin

We're sticking with it this time definitely - he proved he's more than ready yesterday

Tis dull though

cod · 11/04/2006 10:57

norm oyu are doign it wrong
re read instructions
do not ask--- take
do nto ever give in an put a nappy on

you MUST do it
he is too old to be wearign nappies and its good for his self esteem

I do the taking to the loo every 20 mins and a sticker chart by it for all wees and poos done in it

Agree with cod about avoiding potty if poss, but we have a downstairs loo - I'd find it tricky if there was only one upstairs

He was clueless 4 months ago, think he's just ready now

fuzzywuzzy · 11/04/2006 11:03

We've had two wees in the toilet, and dd1 has said she will go to the toilet at nursery, was rather surprised as I hadn't prompted her....she went off going 'teacher xxx needs the toilet please' sounded rather cute.....

I have a question, how on earth do I deal with nap times, she woke yesterday soaked through after a two hour nap....Although she has a tendancy of waking up in the morning being completely dry....what to do???

Kittypickle · 11/04/2006 11:03

Puff well done, that is amazing, secrets please. I just came upstairs to post and he decided to wee again - all over the floor. So since he got up this morning with a dry nappy he has gone twice, he definitely hasn't inherited my bladder. Mum has arrived as reinforcement. If there is one in potty/toilet by end of the day I will be amazed.

I didn't mean leave him for very long in wet clothes, just not be in a hurry to change them......Wink

cod · 11/04/2006 11:04

wee before nap then put a care mat under her
2 hours soudns a long time for a two year old to have imo cant you cut it down

cod · 11/04/2006 11:05

yep thats it kitty
i rememerb 5 accidents on day 5

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 11:05

Honestly cod I kept setting the oven timer for 30 minutes to remind me to take him and on my mother's advice I didn't ask I just took him but other people's kids got the hang of it and alerted their mums to when they wanted to go or went over to the potty by themselves.

The first attempt (at 2 and a half) after 4 days I was still tied to the bloody oven clock beeping every half hour and he still wet himeslf in between toilet trips. The second attempt at, 2 and 3/4, we did one day at home and then nursery did 3 days and they take toilet trainers every half hour (or so they say). His best mate at nursery wears pants and even frequent men tions of this doesn't seem to spur him on.

Should I ask my health visitor if it's something more serious than laziness.

but Cod I like the peace... OK how about an hour then??? She's 3 btw, I am lazy and started potty training late, although all poohs happen in the toilet thank God....

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 11:06

Double posting, this subject is really getting to me !

puff · 11/04/2006 11:07

It'll probably go tits up today with wee and poo all over the place Grin

Even I was amazed by yesterday

it can't last

alittlebitshy · 11/04/2006 11:24

2 wees in potty, one tiny one on the chair.
not bad so far i think.

just hoping she does at some point realise she needs to go rarther than me put her on potty all the time. is this normal for this stage.

still no poo :(

cod · 11/04/2006 12:02

mayeb norms but i hthink oyu need to re read adn trya gin
no goign back

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 12:17

Will get nursery to talk about it lots with him and offer toilet trips when others go and we'll try again in a week or so.

Might make a sticker chart and get some more chocolate incentives but must get dh to stop letting ds have chocolate for a week or so first so that it is a real incentive.

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 12:20

Just thought, I will confiscate all of his easter chocolate to be dished out only for toilet training treats.

I have lots of bed mat type things, would you recommend those to stop car seat and sofa getting wet or does it make them lazy about it all?

Am building up to starting it in a week or so.

cod · 11/04/2006 12:32

yes us ehtem
dont offer norms TAKE! you must read the sintsructions

you ahev to TRAIN him not let him puzzle it out

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 12:49

Honestly Cod, I did just take him every half hour but I can't vouch for nursery. Will try and be very serious with them when we get going.

With working every day it'll be us starting it off on Sat/Sun and then handing over to nursery on the Monday and from then on. I used up holiday time on our first attempt and regretted it.

It's only now that I regret not being a SAHM so that I could just stay at home until he gets the hang of it.

There's another parent at nursery whose ds is 3 and a half and still in nappies, we are friendly so perhaps I'll suggest we both go for it together for mutual support although she might think I'm just being a competitive mummy wanting a target to beat. Believe me I don't compete at all dh despairs of me in that respect.

meysey · 11/04/2006 12:52

Ok final tally for day 2 was half the wees on toilet/potty/bucket, other half accidents. 1 poo in potty. Progress at least.

Day 3 and we have managed a trip to the corner shop (20 mins) and also return trip to granny's (20 mins each way). Hooray!

But.... just before nap time, spent ages on potty and toilet with no results only to wee on floor in bedroom.

First nap with no nappy (had forgotten about that bit). Have no care mat, and tried extra towel over sheet (waterproof underneath). Refused to have towel. Also he sleeps in a sleeping bag. Luckily we have two as I am not optimistic it will stay dry.

COD Can you get care mats easily e.g. from local chemist??

melsy · 11/04/2006 12:57

ok so the care mats will take care of wees , but what about poo , its gonna be messy hey after a nap ?????

melsy · 11/04/2006 13:00

DD being very good today every half hr asking and taking to potty , but to be honest shes taking herself and very proud she is too. Doesnt seem to want to sit on loo though , it seems to have upset her , she keeps saying shes going to fall in!!!!

What do do about getting her on loo , as cant always have potty handy. I dont particularly like the idea of potty in the middle of shops, they need to know whats expected in real world.

Papillon · 11/04/2006 13:00

I just went on msn to chat to you but your not there

dd is starting to go to loo now with no boot in her camp

melsy · 11/04/2006 13:02

awww u around now , forgot it didnt sign me in this morn on auto.

looneytune · 11/04/2006 13:25

I'm not sure if I'm tempting fate here but I wanted to do my whoopy shouting dancey type thing online Grin

After an awful day yesterday, update so far for Day 4:

First wee started in pants and ended in potty - large amount in potty so praised and rewarded even though he did get wet

Went on potty when 2nd mindee arrived as wanted to show off to her dad - he forced the tiniest little bit out to show him (obviously didn't need to go so did well I thought)

When fed mindee 1 her lunch in baby bumbo, said to ds I thought it would be a cool idea to sit next to her in his potty as the bumbo looks like a potty (it worked - huge wee Grin) so I danced around the room like a mad woman and got mindee 2 to join in :)

Tried to get him on potty later by getting dolls potty out and saying, hehe wouldn't it be funny if you went on potty and Woody (fav toy) also did, next to you. He said 'great idea' with a smile and tried but nothing came out.

So, I just need lots of cool new idea's for making him 'want' to go as nothing else worked until now.

Much happier today, just hope I haven't ruined it by bragging Wink

Ds doesn't have naps anymore (not since was around 18 months/2 years) but like the idea of the care mats for car seat/sofa. They good then? Where do I buy them?
