right

  1. this is for any kid over hte age of 2
  2. imo the best age ie 2 - 2.5
  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

hello, loved to join. it seems really great here. i started dd1 on saturday. i think its getting better. when i got tired of cleaning her yesterday, i had an idea whilst washing her in the bath: why not let her play in the bath with her toys? so i filled dd2's baby bath (only about 2-3cm didn't cover even the bottom of the baby bath)and she loved it. of course, i sat with bb2 in the bouncer watching dd1 all the time. even tho the water wouldn't harm her, still i can't bare to leave her alone with it.
she does wee in the loo, but doesn't wee oftet i think as she can be on for ages without weeing and still not wee when off it. i realised to watch her face when i ask her if she wants the toilet. if she doesn't want it at all, she gives out a firm 'no'. if she's not sure but doesn't want to go on the loo anyway, she has a bit of a confused look as she says no. btw she 23 months but has been pestering me since the summer.
i think the problems is that once you actually try to get them to use it, it loses its novelty.Grin

Good to hear some of them are improving, gives me hope. In fairness to DS, he did 2 on the floor, followed by one in potty, then the rest on floor but it was late afternoon and he was knackered as he doesn't sleep. I'm desperate to leave the house but have cancelled where we were going tomorrow to keep on with this.

I sneaked upstairs at one point to do some work as I had stuff that needed to be got out and I could hear them both yelling they were locked in the living room. They had opened the door by the time I got out, then a few minutes later DD shouted that DS had gone in the potty. Went in to look, someone certainly had, then a moment of doubt crept in. Didn't take much for a shame faced DD to confess she was desperate to go to the loo, couldn't get out as the door was stuck so she used the potty, then pretended it was DS so they could both get some chocolate.

The old wives' tale is run the tap while they are on the loo. DS did the best, fastest, biggest, most stress-free wee as the bath was running. Does anyone else do that? I am going to try it big-time tomorrow to see if it deflects any of the toddler-angst we had today.

he is v chuffed with himself, I have to say. Three loads of washing later, I am in a slightly more fragile state.

Cod, good question lower down the thread: what are we supposed to have achieved after a week? Toddler that asks to go for a pee/poo even if not dry at night? or just the odd accident for a while until they learn better control? (lol, are you an expert on this???)

We had a positive day here as well. Dry all day and even told me when he was ready for bed in a nappy that he wanted another wee. Although ten minutes later he'd done a poo in his nappy. So that's still a problem. But he's doing really well and I'm feeling positive at last.

Passionflower · 11/04/2006 20:52

Grin at your DD kittyp.

alittlebitshy · 11/04/2006 21:18

i am shattered after today. probably my own making -getting het up about being in the house, expecting her to be trained and going it alone (well, not quite) already.....

so I am off to bed, to dream of potties, puddles and chocolate butotns.

Pruni · 12/04/2006 09:52

LadySherlockofLGJ · 12/04/2006 09:56

Do not give up, it will transform your life.

Cast your mind forward, you pick up your keys, you pick up your child, you walk out the door.

Anything missing ??

Blasted changing bag. Grin

melsy · 12/04/2006 10:05

lol ladysherlock!!!! Thats soooo true , but now its 6 pairs of knickers and the same for bottom changes !!!

well day 3 here , had meltdown lastnight , sooooo fed up ,if it wasnt for being at home the last 3 weeks ill already I wouldnt feel quite so arrghhhh.

so far no more accidents since the 5 monday morning , cant believe shes taking herself really , still only on the potty, doesnt want to go to the loo, even though I say , try the loo all the time.

Oh and we had a sort of minscule poo just now , lots of clapping and cheering and a choc for each of the wee and the poo. She was soo pleased with herself after the initial shock of "WHATS THAT MUMMY" "WHATS THAT MUMMY" "WHATS THAT MUMMY" !!!!! Its a start hey with the poo.

Do I just take her to the loo, it seems a shame to stress her when shes going to the potty herself with no promt when she needs to????

Latz · 12/04/2006 10:08

Was nearly despairing last night - hence wanting to be told off by Cod!

This morning put her on potty in front of Noddy and when I popped out of the room for a sec - she weed in the potty! :o

After brekkie she sat on potty for ages and did nothing - then after I had gone to make a coffee, walked back in to see her holding herself - she said she wanted a wee so I stuck her on potty and wee no 2 in potty.

Hurrah

melsy · 12/04/2006 10:14

yeyyyy girllatz !!

looneytune · 12/04/2006 11:05

Day 5 - nothing so far, sat to try loads but nothing!

robin3 · 12/04/2006 11:12

Anyone tried the drynights pants?

I showed DS his new pants collection yesterday and he was very excited but then promptly refused to have his nappy on for bedtime.

I was thinking we could buy those drynight pants with cars on and refer to them as nightime pants instead of nappies but I was wondering if they were as absorbent as regular nappies or for older children who don't really need a nappy overnight. DS is always very wet in the morning.

melsy · 12/04/2006 11:14

YIPPEEEEE weve just had proper big poooooooooo in potty. She said its a snake and jumped up out of fright after.
Only problem I over retched and was sick in loo, norty I know , but this pregnancy is quite a sicky one, sorry tmi, how am I gonna cope????? I gotta get her doing them in the loo , but how????. I know what ya all gonna say , GET A GRIP WOMEN. Im getting cabin fever I think.

fuzzywuzzy · 12/04/2006 11:17

Day three we're dry so far, and have been going to the toilet every half hour...... I am so hoping she gets the hang of it and goes by herself soon.

Kittypickle · 12/04/2006 11:24

Well done to to boot camp trainees that are getting the hang of it. This is incredibly boring, I want to be at Moors Valley or the beach or something. I am going to make them clean the ex-ferret shed now playhouse thing in the garden. Maybe the water will get things moving. My new best friend the potty will be coming.

alittlebitshy · 12/04/2006 11:29

nothing at all til a wee on the chair just now. argh!!!!!

we think there is a clogged up poo stopping everything workinf properly.

keep wanting to give up thinking she's NEVER going to get it. after 5 out of 6 hits yesterday this start with a wee on chair is a bit :(

melsy · 12/04/2006 11:29

yeh yeh , dd just did wee on her own in loo upstairs, now all she wants to do is get on loo all the time. This kid makes me laugh !!!

alittlebitshy · 12/04/2006 12:13

dd getting cross with me for asking her if she wants to have a wee, and then for putting her on potty.
I am so going stir crazy!

TopBanana · 12/04/2006 12:20

alittlebitshy would she not use it when she needed if you didn't ask her?

fuzzywuzzy · 12/04/2006 12:34

arghhhh decided to increase time to every hour, and dd has wet herself...Back to every thirty minutes, am going nuts....feel like putting her back in nappies and sending her off to school in them.....
