Hi everyone!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello everyone, good to see so many messages here on my return from two weeks' hols, but obviously that so many of us are having unnecessary hassles from parents or so-called "partners".
Wills, I can't think what to say about your awful mother except you really don't deserve such treatment. I think you're staying very strong in the face of massive provocation and I really hope things improve for you somehow soon.
Katherine, men are such useless blobs at times, we've had a few such scenes lately. One day on holiday I decided I would sit on my bottom until someone else made the sandwiches, assembled the Waspeze/milk beakers/toy tractors/picnic/spare clothes etc kit for a day out AND made a decision about where to visit...and I was still sitting there at 11am (kids got us up at 7 as usual), so I cracked and did it all myself as usual. FWIW I think it is much harder on parents once the baby turns one, for a few months at least. I actually joined Mumsnet when ds was one because I was starting to get insanely angry with dh and his self-pitying, self-regarding moaning about disturbed nights, no peace etc, and I needed somewhere to vent about it. Plus ca change 4 years down the line, even though things have been fine in the interim. So you've got my sympathy too. And really bad news about your mum's house sale, I do hope she gets another buyer soon (mainly for your sake).
KMS, hope your ankle is properly better soon, that sounds nasty.
Champs - book that holiday, make the most of not being tied to school holidays! You owe it to the rest of us to be having a really nice time next week while we crack on with name tapes and nit potion
We've had a wasp-infested, exhausting, rainswept holiday in Devon and Herefordshire this summer but despite all of the above (and dh!) we had a lovely time. Dd, like Musica's, is adept at padding after me at all times (looove having company when changing tampons, thanks Issy) and pulled herself up to standing for the first time yesterday. We are also finally getting some clapping and waving! Opened the baby book to record all these milestones and saw the polaroid of her in SCBU the day she was born and found myself in floods. Polaroids are hardly flattering but she looks just dreadful, splinted and wired up. Can hardly believe, the assertive, cheeky little howler monkey we have now got off to such a bumpy start. Let's hope we all have better times before the lot of them turn two!

KeepingMum · 31/08/2004 14:14

Hi Katherine, sorry to butt in, (but I do have an August baby!) I saw you had just come back from camping in Pembrokeshire, we were down there last week as well just by St Davids. We thought it must be just like Cornwall as well, esepcially with all the wetsuits and surfing. Dd started walking down there too which was great, though she did acquire a taste for sand.

champs · 04/09/2004 23:38

Hi all. How is veryoe getting on this week?

Champs- my DS1 started year 2 yesterday as well! I can't belive how quickly it has come. He'll be in juniors before I know it.

Katherine- glad you had a good holiday. We love pembrokeshire too. We went to Wellington Country Park near basingstoke just for a few days before the holidays finnished. I was off the crutches but still very painful ankle and then I steped on a pothole and wrenched it again! It is still swollen and painfull but I stat physio on thursday so hope that it will improve soon. Thanks for all your sympathy.

DD is walking! She is improving fast and can now go round corners. She is so pleased with herself.
suppose I had better get her some shoes now!

Katherine -I too am still feeding DD. DS1 had 13mths and DS2 15mths and now she is my last I don't want to give it up yet. She is still having 4 feeds a day and has started waking up for a night feed too! I will have to tackle this again it started while we were camping and her last canine came through and I did't want her to wake the whole campsite! but now we are home I need to stop it. She has only chomped down twice though. and both times she didn't really want to feed. I was told that the tongue is out over the bottom teeth while feeding so they wont bite down, it is only when they are messing about at the end of a feed that they bite. I might be wrong.

Marina- good to see you back.
Wills- hope you can get away for xmas. Pleased your mum is having councelling, we found thngs got worse before they got better but I don't think I can ever forgive her for the past. Hope things improve soon

Blimy this is a long post! Sorry!

Katherine · 07/09/2004 20:44

Hi all.
Champs glad you got away despite the pothole. You sound in good spirits though.

Another one with DS in yr 2 and DD1 in reception as well. Can't beleive I'm going through the starting school thing again. DS seems so grown up with DD1.

Is there anyone else who hasn't started their periods yet? I put it down to all the BF. I keep thinking I'm about to but no sign yet. I'm almost looking forward to it(expect I will eat my words soon enough) as I still am off DH (something he finds very frustrating poor love) and am hoping that hormonal surges might help. Seems a long time this time.

KMS · 11/09/2004 22:49

Katherine- DS2 starts reception in Jan! then full time at easter. He is in an early years class at the moment (Start at 4yrs) but still has to wear the same uniform as DS1. He still looks too young to be there!

Wish my periods hadn't come back! they started 3 mths ago with avengance! enjoy the freedom while you can! (sure your not pg! that "about to start" feeling was a symptom for me!)

Katherine · 13/09/2004 09:47

KMS - not much chance of being pg - would have to be the immaculate conception :0

Our pigs arrived this weekend. We've got 2 gloucester Old spots in our quest to eat more organic meat. They are SO cute. Everyone says we'll never manage to eat them. The debate goes on. we've called one Holly because we are meant to be having her at Christmas! Gulp! We may be veggies for christmas at this rate.

KMS · 13/09/2004 21:19

Katherine-LOL about imaculate conception. We are the same at the moment! I am very jelous about your new arrivals. Holly is a lovely name! Hope she is tasty. We would love to have enough room for livestock (a bit of a rivercottage fan), I am thinking about a couple of chickens in our little back garden in suberbia.

Katherine · 14/09/2004 09:38

ooh KMS go for it. They make lovely pets. Its lovely here as there is always one child or another wandering round with a chicken under their arm. They can be really cuddly and they lay lovely eggs too. Now you don't get that from a cat!

Have you seen the river cottage website - they have a great discussion forum (big section for pigs hens etc) and lovely seasonal recipes - fancy making some blackberry whisky for Christmas

KMS · 16/09/2004 22:57

Katherine-had seen the website but not looked for a while, thanks for reminding me. The boys were at a friend's from school today and they have 2 chickens. came back with 2 huge eggs. (they are offen double yolk) and I'm sold! I have wanted them for ages, but the garden isn't very big, but we are going to knock down the garage soon so hopefully there will be room then. Do you have a cat? We have an 11yr old cat and wonder how he would be? May have to wait till he's gone?

champs · 16/09/2004 23:57

hi!!
Kathrine--- Sorry am a bit confused, pothole?!! and i haven't been away.....
kms---- you must be so proud of dd!! well done littlekms.

I have been to hv development check with ds2, he is very underweight, so i have to go every 2wks to clinic and be refered to dietician. He is ever so small-- o-3 mths vests still fit him( i brought one by mistake and only found out it was too small when i read the label) he fits 6-9mths clothing. I will prob post in health thread and get some advice. He isn't walking yet and legs are weak
bye for now.

Katherine · 17/09/2004 09:53

Champs Sorry I was replying to KMS not you. Ooops. Getting everyone mixed up. Due to sleep deprivation!

Actually just come up with a really good ploy. Have moved DD2's cot round to DH side of the bed. Last night when she woke up he got up and poppped her into our bed where she went back to sleep till 6am. I didn't have to get up at all. Ha! Why didn't I think of this before

KMS our neighbour has two cats and they never bother about the chickens. We also have two kittens and although they tend to stalk them they've never done anything more than that and the chickens just chase them off. Even the dog isn't bothered although he does chase the ducks. You don't need that much space for chickens, especially if you are only going to keep a few. You can even get some breeds that lay beautiful coloure eggs. I think its leghorns that lay pale blue or green eggs. We've got some speckly marans and they lay beautiful flecked brown eggs. Ours are getting really cheeky at the moment and keep coming into everyones houses. I'm sure when the weather gets colder they'd come and settle by the fire. Just waiting for them to master the catflap!

champs · 18/09/2004 22:32

lol katherine!! i am very teptef to put crib on dh side.

champs · 19/09/2004 22:51

*tempted

KMS · 21/09/2004 21:50

Oh Champs sorry to hear your Ds is causing some concern. Is he happy and alert in himself? Those charts cause so much heartache. I hope it is nothing more to worry about than an over causious H/V.

Yes I am very proud of my DD although now she is running around everywhere and I am struggling (with the ankle) to keep up! Although she always looks like she is saving herself from a fall!

DH has agreed to chickens but he wants a goat! Where will the kids play?

Marina · 22/09/2004 09:27

Champs, just spotted this, sorry to hear your ds is the cause of some anxiety. Dd is still not walking, or standing unsupported, you know. She will lean heavily on low things like toys when she feels like it.
She can crawl like the clappers though - is your little man mobile and alert? Dd seems to be concentrating on honing her cutlery-throwing skills at the moment. Please keep us posted on how he is - totally agree with KMS about those dictatorial charts.
REALLY envy those of you with pigs and chickens, give the Old Spots a good scratch behind the ears for me Katherine!
Wills, are you still coming to the City lunch on the 13th? Don't forget to bring a few snaps of the children...it will be great to see you again.
How are things with your mother at present? And has your mum managed to find another buyer Katherine?
Hope everyone here is well. We're still b/f too, just at bedtime, in the morning...and during the night once, the little hussy. So can relate to all talk of sleep deprivationzzzzzzzz......

Katherine · 22/09/2004 11:44

Hi everyone. Champs DD2 is tiny too. All my kids have been diddy but Bea is the smallest. I put a newborn cardie on her a few weeks ago and it fitted. Most of her clothes are 3-6mths. She is happy and active though so I'm not worried. I have trouble getting her to eat properly - she's so independent she won't let me feed her and not much goes in when she does it herself so I end up spending all day feeding her bits of fruit etc. I'm frustrated rather than bothered though.. She had her MMR this morning and I expected the HV to bring it up - she wanted to refer DS but I refused - but she made no mention. I am small and DH is small and both our mothers are under 5ft so its no surprise really. Don't let them worry you - its only if YOU feel their is something amiss that you should be concerned. Who is it that says his legs are weak? Bea will stand when on the bed but not on the floor (think she knows its hard!) - but my other 2 didn't walk till 15 mths so she's got plenty of time yet.

Marina fingers crossed mum has a buyer and everything seems OK. The moving date is now the 1st Octiber so I'm trying to organise the older two so I can go up there to pack. Just want it all sorted.

A goat eh! We nearly ended up with 3 that were retiring from Chatsworth Farm but I was worried about the cost of OAPs so we went for the pigs instead. I like the little pygmy goats. I was put off goats because being of a practical ilk I want my animals to work for me in some way - goats will give you milk but you'd have to milk them every day which I feel would be too tying. Think they'd make a great pet though. DH wants a cow!

I had a horrible day yesterday - some people out walking nearby lost their dog and it had fallen off a cliff behind our house. we had to phone the vet and organise for the dog to be taken out through the quarry as it was the only access. It was a beautiful red setter and the people were on holiday up here. Anyway I phoned this morning and they had to put him down last night. I can't imagine going home from a holiday without a pet like that. I felt so sorry for them.

Have just eaten a large bar of green and blacks all by myself

Wills · 25/09/2004 14:58

Oh Katherine the dog epsiode sounds horrible. Champs like the others my dd2 is small. In terms of height she's off the chart but on it for weight . We've gone through the being referred to a consultant and all that and to be honest it put my mind at rest that all that was wrong was the gps and hvs. The consultant was perfectly happy.

Dd2 has been walking 2 months now so we went to get her first pair of shoes. They're size 3 cos they didn't have size 2.5. I watched closely and they don't seem to hinder her at all and she's really chuffed. She loves shoes (like her mummy) and is normally to be found wandering around with her big sister's clutched in her hand and trying to put them on from time to time.

KMS - hope you're ankle is getting better.

I've just come back from a week in France which was spectacular (and the reason I didn't make the meet up). But I came back to an enormous row at work and with my Mum. Mum now knows we're going to Disney and I've written a letter to my work protecting my rights and showing how they were discriminating against me. The gp has put me onto Antidepressants and I'm waiting for the side effects to dull down and to feel a bit better. She also offered to write me off work but that would add fuel to my work in terms of them trying to make me redundant. At the moment the letter has got them on the defensive so as unpleasent as it feels I want to keep trudging on and try and get through this.

Waffled again.

Marina - how did the meet up go? Am determined to make the next one and of course will bring photos.

champs · 25/09/2004 16:36

thank you all for your kind words. He is alert and says a few words, understands alot and has 8teeth so that part of his development is fine. Althogh I am overweight now, I think that is more nurture (and food shovelling) as I was very underweight as a child. My mum had me reffered as I was so small and didn't eat.
I think his legs are weak but I also feel he just doesn't wish to stand because if I try to put him in his car seat when he doesn't want to he ertainly stands then and with such strength that I have to really try to get him to sit.
He is mobile as in sitting, and bum shuffling he can reach stuff by a mixture of belly stretching and bum shuffling.

g2g cos i am late to go to drop kids off for work. will post later

champs · 25/09/2004 21:34

hi!! am back.
ds is 7kg which is way bellow what he should be, infact he is too light for the next stage car seat whichis from 9kg approx 9mths.

champs · 30/09/2004 00:44

where's everyone??

Wills · 02/10/2004 08:50

Hi ya champs. My dd2 is just 9kg but only 4 teeth. I'm off today to get her some 6-12 month jeans cos I haven't got a hope in hell of getting her into 12-18. I wouldn't mind but she's got the girth of a 12-18month so I'm going to have to somehow let the waists out. I refuse to put her on diet cos I can't believe a baby will eat too much, but there's an awful lot of fruit and veg in her diet now.

champs · 02/10/2004 22:26

agree about babies and diets, unless they need a special diet because of intolerance or allergies. your dd sounds lovely wills.

Wills · 03/10/2004 09:04

Thanks champs. Seriously though if you can don't hesitate to see a consultant. If something's wrong the early you know the better. If nothings wrong at least you've had an expert say it and you'll feel heaps better. I found the worst bit was being told by hv's and gps that something was wrong without knowing what. They kept hinting that it wasn't right but that they would monitor it. It was me that insisted that I see an expert. Good luck

musica · 04/10/2004 23:22

Hi everyone - have been trying to stay off mumsnet a bit, to try and get stuff done in the house, but not really succeeding! Champs - sorry you're so concerned - have you spoken to the GP? Might be a better route than the HV (our one is as dappy as they come!). Ds has always been very small, and it is worrying, isn't it! In fact, he (at age 3) came home wearing a 3-6 month pair of trousers the other day as shorts!!!! But that is not typical. Seriously though, I hope everything is ok. I bet he is gorgeous.

We have got the dreaded MMR tomorrow (I think) - it will be the third attempt, because we have had to cancel on a number of occasions now. We'll have to see how brave I'm feeling tomorrow I think. Dd is sporting a fantastic black eye as well - we had to take her to A&E last week, having toppled over into a wooden bench. I have never seen a child's head swell up so quickly! She is a very confident walker now, but hasn't totally mastered the art of stopping. Naturally it was dh looking after her!!! (But really wasn't his fault). However, it will be interesting to see what the HV says tomorrow.

She is also talking a little now - she can say about 7 words, and also Moo. Which is very cute.

I wish we could all see each other's babies - it is sometimes really hard to imagine them all, and they must all be so different, and yet similar, being the same age!

Anyway, hope you're all ok, lots of love Mxxx
