Hi everyone!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Marina · 13/05/2004 23:37

champs, it's not until next month (sad old soul that I am I like to plan in advance...) will keep you posted! How are you all? Very good to catch up with Wills and Katherine. Dd is quite fairy-like too but according to our disapproving HV, "too long for her chart" because she is on the 20th for weight...and the 92nd for height. So, she's a long streak. SO? Also failed her ludicrous hearing test due to ear full of slime so has been referred to Audiology. Hope their headphones are wipe-clean...
We've also got a tooth in finally but it's on her upper jaw, so we've renamed her White Fang. She said "dadda" at dh twice last weekend, and ds claims she said "absolutely" this afternoon but he could fib for England (he got married at lunchtime at school but they were divorced by the end of After-School Club).
Wills and Katherine, good luck with the work plans. I'd give anything (apart from eventually losing the house which is what it would boil down to) to give up Dd's nursery is fine but dh and I are worn out with the whole treadmill of it all.
Wills, I saw on another thread that you are looking to give up b/f. I just wanted to say that I think your determination to keep going through all that thrush misery has been inspiring and I think you are brilliant
Have a good weekend, August mums and families

champs · 17/05/2004 22:44

marina-- did you see my post in your shower thread?

Marina · 18/05/2004 12:11

Champs, no! I've just been and searched for it - the boards are so busy these days that stuff gets buried.
Thank you SO much for all those fab ideas, I really appreciate them

Hi all!! haow are all of you and your lovely babies? all of us here have colds at the mo. Hope we get better before christening next week.

KMS · 27/05/2004 02:06

Hi all! Sorry I have been away for soooo long. Things have been really busy with nappy business and three kids. Have just caught up on about 3 mths of posts!

Katherine- so sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine when I was 21. He was only 62 and had a sudden stroke. He never got to see my kids. It does get easier but even now (9 yrs later) I see things and think briefly "oh I must tell Dad" then I remember. I hope your mum does move closer as I think you will all benifit. Including the kids. Sorry haven't had a chance to check out the schooling thing, but I hope you are working through it.

Wills- sorry about your grandad. still a shock when it is expected. Hope you are feeling better with the exclusion diet. I can't belive how much you have suffered with thrush. How's the house going? Did you stay on target for finish date?

Well, Jess is now pulling herself up to stand on anything and everything! She is soo cheaky now. She loves to play boo with a muslin or her blanket or even her hat! She was over 20lbs at last weighin in april. such a podge! can't believe she will be 10mths in 10days! This time last year we were all just Fat and hot!

Hope you are all well. I will try to keep up now.

champs · 27/05/2004 03:01

kms, I am still fat and hot LMAO only this time my breasts are heavier and leaking

glad to see you back, can't believe your littleun is pulling up already. you feeding her ready brek? my one is in no hurry i can tell you, although he tries ti slide of my lap tp go to the floor esp. when other kiddies are playing.

KMS · 27/05/2004 20:08

LMAO? don't know this abreviation sorry. I have been trying to work it out but nothing really makes sence! Laugh something?
Anyway, I know what you mean about boobs. although not leaking as much as i was. I was collecting the drips for the milk bank and was getting 150mls per day! Only just started to express for them now as the drips are no more!

champs · 28/05/2004 17:29

lmao= laugh my a** off.
funny thing is they leak so much but when I express I get so little!!!

musica · 30/05/2004 13:36

Hi everyone. How are you all? I feel like I've had no time to come on here, as dd is now all over the place - crawling everywhere, and she can pull herself up too. Ds seems to have decided that his favourite game is to jump off the sofa and land on her, which she finds hilarious for about 5 minutes, and then devastating after that. They are hard work at the moment! Dd also has her first word - 'Again!'. She started saying this when I was bouncing her, stopped and she said 'Again'. Quite clearly. And she always says this now when she wants something to continue. It did occur to me that I might be being over proud mother, but was convinced when I picked her up from creche and the girl looking after her said 'Did you know she could say again when she wants something again?'.

We're going to have our second attempt at potty training ds in half term - I really want him out of nappies before he's 3. So wish me luck for that! I'm dreading it - just praying for good weather! Dd and ds are now sharing a room which is very cute - Ds is SO proud of 'our room'.

Hope everything is going well for everyone else - Marina - what did you decide about piano lessons? I've just started teaching a 5 year old with quite good results, so it is possible that young!

Marina · 30/05/2004 14:02

Hi all, nice to hear from you KMS after quite a patch - sounds like you have been very busy.
Champs, I'm giving up expressing as soon as dd turns one, frankly! It's got more and more tricky to mangle out the 8oz (I know at least one other veteran expresser is finding the same!) and she can have cow's milk from SIXTH AUGUST yessirree.
Musica, good luck with the potty training, ds didn't make it out of nappies until shortly before his third birthday, and it's always easier in the warm weather. We found leaving it "later" paid dividends in that he got the hang of it in days, hope the same applies to you. Your dd sounds a busy little soul! That's great news about her first word. Dd is saying dada and babbling away like a loon, but that's it so far. She still only has one tooth and looks like a little mad old lady. She's got to the going-backward stage but is still not keen to take her weight on her legs so we're practising with her and keeping an eye on this. Bit paranoid that her teeny sacral dimple has somehow compromised her leg strength even though she kicks like a mule.
KMS, it is weird to think they are 10 months old already. There is an August 2004 thread looming, we're going to need to change our names. I'm so sorry you lost your dad too young - mine are 79 and 75 and even though they drive me nuts I thank goodness they are still with us and as feisty and mad as ever.
Champs, dare I ask how the spouts are faring? Or are going to be like me and leave your poor little pet to go cold turkey?
Musica, we are still faffing around with dd's room and when that is sorted we will have room in the dining room to set up ds' keyboard. He will be about five by then, has a super music teacher at school and enjoys singing, so we will take it from there. I'm not sure we have a Melvyn Tan in the making though - he's too interested in the "psycho" mode switch on the keyboard for my liking...
Wills and Katherine, are you out there? KMS, it's great to see you back. Don't be a stranger
Long post guys, sorry.

champs · 01/06/2004 01:55

hi all!! musica-- you have every right to be a proud mum, I'm proud of your dd, how clever.
marina-- spouts were not succesful... have got a trainer bottle cup with pyramid type spout, that i will try. gettin abit worried now as have 2wks to get him using it.

KMS · 04/06/2004 12:46

Hi all,
I was 30 on thursday!! feel a bit weird. Had a BBQ for lots of friends yesterday and can you belive after beeing sunny for weeks it rained!

Musica- a word! how clever is your DD! you should be a very proud mummy. good luck with the potty training. i second leaving it until they are really ready. My DS2 did it in three days and was then dry day and night! He was desperate to be just like his big brother though.

oops must go DH is about to tell me off for being on the computor! catch up soon

champs · 05/06/2004 20:27

hi kms!! happy belated birthday.

how's the potty training going musica?

Katherine · 07/06/2004 14:30

Hi all. KMS happy birthday. Lovely to hear everyone is progressing so well. Don't they grow up fast.

Feeling glum as I never seem to get the chance to come here any more. I'm always behind with everything - my website, my kids, the housework.... still I think everyone is like that.

DD2 is coming on beautifully. She now has 4 teeth (very sharp they are too but I am persisting!). She can crawl backwards and pulled herself up a few days ago. Just wish she was making as much progress with her sleeping. Last night was horrific but she does have a funny tummy at the moment.

I'm sorry I'm not keeping up with everyone as much as I should. Also trying to move my mum down here and she's being totally helpless and expecting me to do EVERYTHING. No buyer for her house yet though. In many ways it will be easier having her closer but I'm also dreading the invasion and the demands. Another reaosn to go back to work......

Sorry not all doom and gloom really. Having a great time with my kids at the mo. They are such good fun and can't wait to get the tent out again. Wills will you be camping this summer?

champs · 07/06/2004 16:09

hi katherine, great to hear from you!! kiddies are fine this end, ds1 enjoying his half term and I love having him home. ds2 still on the small side, had christening on sun.

musica · 07/06/2004 16:18

Hi everyone - happy birthday for Thursday, KMS. Hope you had a good one! Katherine - nice to see you here!

We're surviving the potty training champs - thanks for asking! Ds is brilliant at weeing on demand - always does a wee in the potty. We're on day 3, and yesterday we had only 2 accidents, of the wee kind. No accidents today so far, and we've been out to Mothercare, and he did 2 wees in the toilet there. So we're making progress. Don't know how to get him from this point to actually asking to do a wee though - any suggestions?

Hope everyone's ok and enjoying the sunshine! xxx

champs · 07/06/2004 20:47

musica-- Good going with potty training, sounds like he's doing well with it. A whole trip with no accidents is great.
Keep telling him to tell you when he needs to go, also keep asking him if he needs to go.

KMS · 09/06/2004 02:35

Hi Katherine- Musica - Champs and all, Had an ok Birhday thanks, just got to get used to being 30!!

Katherine- you say "persisting" with the teeth, Is she biting you while feeding? or just biting? or still teething?

Musica- great going with potty training. I would say lessen the asking if he needs a wee and explain and help him to start asking you. Of course you still need to ask him but not as frequently as you were, and maybe offer stars for every time he asks AND performs? 5 stars = a treet? magazine or something else cheep then lessen asking further and gradually increase number of stars required then to a whole day dry etc. etc. Well it worked for my DS1 & DS2

Champs- how did christening go?

Better go get some sleep as DD is STILL waking once or twice per night! I must summon the energy to stop giving her a feed and riding the screams, but she wakes up the other two and it isjust easier at the moment.

Catch up soon, hope you have all had a great 1/2 term.

champs · 09/06/2004 18:02

kms-- christening was great!! DS2 was such a good boy. Enjoyed having ds1 home for 1/2term.

Katherine · 12/06/2004 12:18

Hi KMS _ I said persisting because everyone else keeps sayins "Oh you'll be giving up now then!". She is biting a bit but not like DD1 who drew blood one time. Every now and then she has a nibble but on the whole she's been great and I hav eno intention of stopping. My phrasing reflected the other thoughts buzzing round in my head. Sorry!

KMS · 14/06/2004 02:46

Katherine- I get that from everyone! "oooh doesn't it hurt now she has teeth?" "doesn't she bite?" "surely you have to give up now she has teeth?" no, no, no, no, no! If she bites me she isn't feeding, as while feeding her tongue is over her teeth and would bite that first! It really gets to me when I hear such stupid remarks! What did babies do before formula? starve when they got teeth?

Sorry I went in to one then! I have calmed down now.

Jess is showing more teething signs. Her molars are bulging at the top. The boys had theirs at about a year so maybe hers are just shifting? Had a nasty teething poo though today.
She is now crusing with intent! she even let go for a split second today! but soon fell on her bum.
How do you guys find meal time. Jess makes sooo much mess. she gets excited with something in her hand and ends up throwing it across the room! I had forgotten how little actually goes in compared to the bucket load on the floor. I wish i had a dog to clear it for me!

Katherine · 15/06/2004 00:09

My dog is a fab hoover......

It is a mess isn't it. I found that her food consumption dropped dramiatically recently because she wanted to do it all herself but of course got very little in. She won't touch breackfast at all so I just give her a few dry shreddies or similar and she happily munches away. I found that giving them a spoon of their own helped with my other 2 but not this time. She is getting better at getting stuff in though - Haven't dared try a plate yet though!

DD2 has really masted going forwards and pulling herself up now. Whenever I put her down she disappears under the sofa and I keep loosing her.

Night times are still imposible though. She gets me up several times and I'm a loss what to try. Just muddle on and put her in our bed which helps a bit but I always end up perched on the edge. Oh well I suppose she'll have moved on by the time shes a teenager eh

musica · 16/06/2004 02:02

I have just had the worst day! Ds has been utterly manic all day - I went downstairs having got dd up, to find he had climbed on a chair, got down the rice krispies and emptied the entire box all over the living room. His mission then seemed to be to torment dd to screaming point, at which point the park seemed a good option. Got home, had tantrum because Bits and Bobs wasn't on CBeebies, (ds not me!), had lunch, wet pants, explained (AGAIN) about asking for the potty - ds not listening - trying to tell me about Fireman Sam - make sticker chart for him, scream at him to listen for one second....have to walk to pick car up from garage - 1.5 mile walk, decide ds can jolly well walk it if he's got so much energy - halfway there, dd in pushchair is suddenly and violently sick. Everywhere. Pools of vomit collecting in the pushchair. I have nothing to wipe her up with - no wipes, cloth anything. Only thing to hand is ds' t-shirt.....he manfully hands it over with a sad 'My t-shirt...'. Dd continues being sick for about an hour, and then decides she's fine now.

Do you all have days like this? The potty training is going ok but I just can't get him to ask for the potty. He doesn't even seem to notice if he has an accident tbh. I can keep him clean and dry by taking him to the potty every hour, and I'm doing this in the hope he will suddenly get the idea. I've made a sticker chart to help, but I'm really at a bit of a loss.

Anyway, hope you've all had better days than this one. x

Katherine · 16/06/2004 12:22

Oh Musica you poor thing. Potty trainng can be a real trial but you won't be changing wet pants when he's a teenager

DS woke crying last night. Inconsolable. think he had a sore throat. Then DD2 was sick just when I was putting her to bed. All over poor DH who had just got home after 2 nights away. She woke up miserable in the middle of the night so I put her in with us and went back to sleep. Woken abruptly by a plume of vomit hitting me in the face in the early hours. Yuk! she was sick again this morning and then DS appeared for a cuddle and then DD got all jealous and threw a tantrum. Fell back to sleep and woke up at 8.05am! Aghhhhh - mad dash to get to school. DD2 now desperate for a feed but I don't want to be sicked on again.

On a chirpier note DD complained the bath was a bit too hot so please could I put some cold in to "Warm it down"
