Happy new year procrastinators!

ForkInTheForeheid · 02/01/2012 14:03

Happy new year! I've got a 3000 word TMA due on the 16th which I've yet to start. On the plus side got the house to myself wed, thurs, fri this week! Hooray!

craftynclothy · 03/01/2012 12:42

Happy new year!

I've a TMA due on the 5th and have pretty much finished Q1 (3 questions in total) - just having problems when I paste my stuff into a word document Hmm. Struggling to be motivated with it because (a) it doesn't actually count towards my mark and (b) it's very, very similar to a TMA on my last course so seems pretty dull.

My tma is due Saturday, why aren't I panicking yet? I've written about 500 words of the 2000 needed-pathetic I really meant to have it done by now. Hmm

Hi everyone

chipmunksex · 05/01/2012 12:31

Jeeps why am I doing this module? It's interesting subject matter, but the lack of interaction is really pissing me off.

There are no more tutorials planned (we've only had 1), noone writes on the forum, which is only for the tutor group which was about 10 people, but I suspect is now only me. Sad

After I've finished this tma I may have to speak to the OU about my options.

(kicks everyone up the arse and hands out Brew)

Prolesworth · 05/01/2012 12:43

have you looked at the facebook group, chipmunk? Last year's one was v lively in the absence of a proper 'official' forum (who the hell thought it was a good idea to set up the forums for DD306 like that? Fools). It does make all the difference having a bit of interaction/moral support from fellow sufferers.

chipmunksex · 05/01/2012 13:35

Hi proles, I did go on the dreaded facebbok briefly around the time of the last TMA when I was in full on meltdown, but I have deleted it and really do not want to do it, I hate The face book and all it stands for. [rant]

I have considered joining with a public computer at the library with a made up identity, so as not to get all the lists of random friends suggestions.

But really I think it's wrong that we aren't getting any tutorials, it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere or something. I haven't even had any emails from my tutor.

How are you doing? Have you signed up for more courses yet?

wildstrawberryplace · 06/01/2012 17:49

Hey chipmunk how's the deadline coming along?

I'm up shit creek this week as I was foolishly relying on an extension only to be told the tutor can only allow 2 for this course (yeah, of course I have already had 2 extensions Hmm slacker). I could contact central office but I'm too 'shamed and haven't really got any valid excuse just Christmas and 2 TMAs due soon after the festivities.

So that's a pile of reading, critics, and an essay by Tuesday.

winny did you submit TMA02 for A215 yet? I didn't. I am really being sooooooo crap this year.

OP posts:
chipmunksex · 06/01/2012 20:20

I have submitted, a day early Shock

I should leave right? Grin

Don't worry it was probably crap.

Prolesworth · 06/01/2012 21:11

Well done chipmunk (WTF is your new name all about?!) Wine

It is really crap that you're getting no tutorial support, no access to course-wide forums and no one-to-one support from the tutor (apart from marking TMAs). It's not good enough. And I totally understand your stance on facebook. I think you're doing brilliantly to persevere with what is a pretty tough course with so little support tbh. I think the course team have made a poor job of arranging the online support. When I did the course there was a course-wide 'welcome' forum, then it disappeared and we only had access to temporary forums for each block restricted to small groups. Level 3 courses don't have huge numbers of students on them - something like 300-400 people - so I can't see the logic of splitting the forums up in this way and restricting students' opportunities for support and debate.

winnybella · 06/01/2012 23:16

Happy New Year!!!

WSP-nope and I got extension til Monday. Haven't started writing yet, haven't a clue what I'm going to write about Hmm

Damn, only two extensions per year? Come to think about it, I think my tutor said that in an email she sent to us in October. Damn, damn, damn.

Still, I also got extension for my other course and the deadline is in, oh, 50, minutes and I haven't written anything. I have to say I'm taking this procrastinating thing to new heights Grin Hmm I go to the class of honours calculator thingy and see I can still get first class degree if only I'll get distinctions on all my other courses and I think to myself "Oh, I can totally do that.I won't bother with this tma as I don't have enough time to write something decent'. Then at the end of year I'll cry that I haven't sent at least an essay plan to get some points.

chipmunksex · 07/01/2012 00:23

New name is pathetic 'friends reference'. I wanted to change because I got a bit spooked because of mumsnet being so searchable, not sure if this was proportionate at the moment Hmm

Thanks so much for all your support on here people-and my rl friends too, but yes it is a bit of a challenge and I wil be calling the OU next week when I assume things will be back to normal after the christmas hoildays.

mustdash · 09/01/2012 10:39

So far today I have,

cleaned the kitchen
cleaned the dishwasher
cleaned the oven
done an on-line shop
made a Brew
declined my lovely tutor's offer of an extension.

1000 words done, better crack on the with other 1000 words..... deadline Wed.

wildstrawberryplace · 09/01/2012 12:26

Opinions please - asked for deadline, tutor sent me an email saying "Yes fine, you can even take a few more days than that if you like, no problem. However, I'm only to allowed to agree 2 extensions for this course so next time if you get into difficulties you'll have to go through central office, just so you know."

However, she's already given me 2 extensions, this will be the 3rd. So do I take that as she's forgotten she's given me 2 already, or that she's agreeing this one but warning me that from now she has no authority and I should not count on an extension?

Worried that my assignment might not get accepted. But also, don't have enough time to meet the deadline, but could cobble something together to scrape up my substitution score if applied.

Or should I just go ahead and assume I have concrete extension since I have it in writing TMA3 "yes no problem, take more time" etc? Confused

winnybella · 09/01/2012 12:28

Ha ha ha ha ha

So, I have an extension til today. For various reasons I left it til today to write it, thinking with DC out of the house it'll be easier to concentrate. Only DD woke us up at 7 when she was sick in her bed. Then on the floor. Obviously called the nursery and said she won't come.

She hasn't been sick since then, in fact is bursting with energy. No hope of writing til they go to bed, so that will leave me with writing a 2500 story in 5 hours.

I want to shoot myself for being such a useless, lazy idiot, I really do.

winnybella · 09/01/2012 12:28

x-post, wsp

winnybella · 09/01/2012 12:30

Oh, just accept it. It'll be fine. I got 3 extensions as well, even though the tutor said she's allowed to grant only three.

How's your story, wsp? I want to cry. I've no idea, no plan, NOTHING.

winnybella · 09/01/2012 12:31

Sorry, even though she's allowed to grant only two

wildstrawberryplace · 09/01/2012 12:40

Hey winny, I think I will take it, thanks for the info. Burying my head in the sand is always the best option anyway Grin but I'm sure you're right it will be fine.

Sorry to hear about yr DD and your five hours Sad. If it's any consolation I haven't started my story yet either, nor do I have any ideas, plans, inspiration or perspiration. In fact, I still haven't looked at the course book since last TMA. I'm a useless wastrel and I feel like a complete phoney.

OP posts:
winnybella · 09/01/2012 12:43

yy to not have looked at the coursebook.

I feel fucking useless. I started the OU with a level 2 course and not doing much I easily got high pass 2. Now I'm procrastinating even more and what with level 3 being a bit more difficult...I feel like packing it in. I won't, obv.

mustdash · 09/01/2012 12:48

I haven't had any extensions recently, but on my level 1 course needed a few (4 maybe?). My tutor then said I could have as many as I wanted, but he needed permission for them to be more than 3 weeks.

Maybe they make it up as they go along? I reckon if you have it in writing from your tutor, you should take it.

(no words typed yet, but some very brilliant highlighting done in my notes)

winnybella · 10/01/2012 13:04

Got short extensions on both assignments. Now just need to stop MNing and get on with it Hmm

How's your story going, WSP? I now bitterly regret not having followed course book's recommendation and starting a notebook with ideas, observations, snippets of convos etc. I've no clue what to write about.

wildstrawberryplace · 10/01/2012 14:13

do you know what the substitution rules are for this one, winny? time is running out for me...

OP posts:
winnybella · 10/01/2012 14:18

There is NO substitution on this course. I know it because I checked it 2 days ago thinking I might just skip this tma.

How many days have you got left? And did you start writing yet?

wildstrawberryplace · 10/01/2012 14:35

shit, no waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Sad

I have until end of Monday. Have not started. Have house guests today and tomorrow, plus looking after someone else's kid on Thursday.

Oh, and I have my other TMA to do by next Weds. So all a bit Shock
