DS is doing well - only a few accidents yesterday but being male he has yet to poo in the potty or toilet. He's decided he has to use the loo rather than the potty now because "thats where pilots go". I have no earthly where that came from

Nbg · 26/01/2006 15:43

DD is doing better. Dh took her out yesterday to see his Grandma. DD was in a pull up as we've been having total disasters with pants.
To cut a long story short she managed a shopping trip round Tesco and a half hour car journey until they got to Grandmas and she announced she needed a wee and started to pull the pull ups off and go to the toilet. The pull up was totally dry!!!

I can't believe she managed all that way and not pee. So today we are back in pants and so far so good. She is remembering to pull them off when she needs to go.

Tomorrow is her last music class so we have to go but if the rest of the day goes well we'll go in pants. It's only 5/10 mins walk and the class is for 45 mins so it's not a big trip, plus it's in a village hall so there will be toilets for us to use.

Wish us luck

New update

Number of poos in pants (1)

I don't think DS has any warning about a poo coming.

Well, we're doing OK. He asks to go lots, still, though doesn't always go. He needs to, but can't let go. We seem to be having more damp pants now and few complete drenching. We went out today for a couple of hours and he asked for the toilet but then refused to use it. 10 minutes later he had an accident in the bank and was really upset, but couldn't stop it (sorry HSBC about the damp patch on the carpet ). Had to stip him off at the roadside but hopefully he'll be encouraged to use toilets out. He's only used the one at home so far. Still, this is only Day 10. Bought him a congratulatory 99p Hot Wheels car - he was thrilled!

The question now is: pull-up or pants for pre-school tomorrow?! I'd like to send him in pants, just slightly anxious about the fact that he's never used any other toilet! Might just go for it though!

Frizbetheexpansionset · 26/01/2006 22:16

Thanks catbert, but sadly it doesn't appear to be that either, she did one on the loo yesterday hurrah thinks I, but then this am, said she didn't need to poo, refused in a screaming kicking fashion to go on toilet or potty, then plopped one out the second she sat down on the sofa, everything else is going in the loo, argh!

nailpolish · 27/01/2006 15:00

dd has been dry for 6 mths. the past 3 days she has had an accident each day! i cant believe it! she was a dream to toilet train and was completely dry in a week (apart from nights obv.)

i have sort of ruled out a wee infection, shes not complaining of pain when she wees

i have a feeling she is lazy and just cant be bothered going to the toilet, so holds it in. at playgroup they think she was busy playing, but i think this is too much of a coincidence being 3 times in 3 days (shes had 1 accident at playgroup and 2 at home)

ponygirl · 27/01/2006 15:15

Bad day today. Constant stream of accidents - ha ha, sorry about the bad, but appropriate, pun. I've only got one more pair of clean pants left! It's all feeling a bit grim today.

ok day 5 of pt - nothing in potty yet but much progress in way of will nwo sit on potty at intervals (not always when i think she wants it tho!) Now reacts when she wees and tells me its wee wee and its wet! And tonight said outo f the blue (when she was v excited) wee wee - potty - but wouldn't go on it and didn't do anything either! Now how to get her to actually do something on the potty - so although it's slow progress i do feel it is progress!

codnotmud · 29/01/2006 19:20

great

ponygirl · 30/01/2006 12:21

I fell into the pull-ups trap, eyes wide open. Was using them for pre-school because he wouldn't use the toilet, then used them on Saturday for a children's party at a leisure park that was 40 minutes drive away. Total accidents all day Sunday, another first thing this morning, then he asked for the pull-up! Aaaargh! So, have shown him the pull-ups going in the bin. No more. Have warned pre-school that he's coming in this afternoon in pants with a large bag of changes of clothes. The turkey is cold now (she said through gritted teeth). Another accident and some damp pants this morning, but we have had three wees on the toilet too.

knat · 30/01/2006 14:08

ok - how do i get dd to now go to wee in potty - as said before she now knows she's going and will tell me she's done wee wee but getting her ont he potty when i think she needs it is another matter. She does seem to be able to hold it. For instance she can go a couple of hours soemtimes more after having a meal and drink etc. So far when we've been out she has not had a wee until we've been back? Any tips on how i can encourage her to nwo make the transition to weeing in the potty would be appreciated.

kate100 · 30/01/2006 18:04

Not too bad today, only one accident and that was because we didn't get to the toilet in time, he had asked to go, but I took him to the toilet and it was shut and he couldn't hold on for the next one, but that's still progress. He even did poo on the potty today, so he hasn't had to be hosed down.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 30/01/2006 18:06

Bob now been dry during the day for 8 days. Uses toilets outside the home.

No poo action yet.

Nbg · 31/01/2006 09:34

Weeeeeell we had 3 days dry until Sunday where it went a bit wrong.

Friday we went out to music class and maanaged to get there, do the class, do a little shop and get home all dry.
Saturday spent at home in pants, dry.
Sunday, dinner at my BIL's, dry till 7pmish when she laughed and had a bit of an accident, not much and then again whilst eating dinner (that was my fault, should have taken her to the loo before eating)
Yesterday, again a couple of accidents. The first time I don't know why she did but the second was eating so I know why we're going wrong in places.

She started with a cold on Sunday too so she is a bit mardy but we're marching on....

ponygirl · 31/01/2006 15:56

Really peed off with this toilet-training lark now! I know the set-backs are party me fault with the pull-ups, but the constant weeing in all his clothes is wearing me down. He had an accident sitting on his bed this afternoon which went right through to the duvet. Aaargh! We've come too far now for me to give up (which is what I feel like doing) and yet it feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back. It's his birthday next week and I was really hoping I wouldn't have to spend it changing his clothes 10 times. Please tell me it's going to get better.

knat · 31/01/2006 19:06

cod - any help in getting her to wee in potty now she at least knows she's doing it and what it is.

pesme · 01/02/2006 09:28

hi been lurking on this thread for a week. dd did a huge poo & wee in her potty this morning hurrah. the problem is she is ready, she knows when she needs to wee & poo & can hold it in for a long time but the potty is freaking her out. if i grab her at the last minute and hold her on the potty she 'performs' and is mighty pleased with herself. any tips on making the action of going less stressful.

LoonyMum · 01/02/2006 13:09

pesme - how about introducing a sticker reward system? giving her a sticker to put on her chart/daily sticker card to show dad/grandma/grandad/aunty whoever!

Good old bribery never fails at this age! lol!

I introduced the concept to Lu by looking at the stickers and saying 'look how beautiful they are' etc etc, then she wanted one so I said: If you want a sticker you need to do a wee on the potty, if you do you'll get a sticker and you can choose it. If you can't do a wee, you'll have to wait for the sticker you want - big girls who use the potty get stickers! etc etc etc - (be firm no wee/poo no sticker) it worked for us, I hope it does for you should you choose to do this.

Good luck with both your efforts, lol

DS is at nursery in pants. Along with a lot of spare pants/clothes etc.

Will be interesting to see how he has got on

LoonyMum · 01/02/2006 13:19

ponygirl

Thats what happened, initially, with me too. I had to start all over again.

Please ditch those god awful pull-ups, I can't help but think it may be confusing him. Pants one minute and pull-ups the next. Be strong hang-on in there. Keep reminding him that there will be no more nappies/pull-ups, make a big thing of it get him to help throw them in the bin, when out and about point out children in nappies saying 'oh look theres a baby, hes got a nappy, you dont have a nappy, you're not a baby are you? you're a big boy now you've got pants', lots of praise etc etc Subtly making him aware all the time.....

Good luck, you can both do it!

Hello, haven't posted on here for a little while, but I think we've pretty much cracked it tbh. DD has been dry night and day for almost 2 weeks, the only accident we've had lately is when we woke her from a nap, thought she was being grizzly but it turned out she actually wanted us to pull her jeans down so our fault really. She's nowhere near toliet trained (as in take herself to the loo, take her own trousers down etc) but she tells me when she needs to go, I just have to pull it all down for her. I think I'll have a go at that aspect in the summer, when she's wearing lighter clothes that are easier to pull up and down.

Can we graduate Cod

I know it's not the done thing, but I'm really proud of DD, she's only 2.3, a good 6 mths younger than the earliest the DSs managed and I'm really chuffed she's got the hang of it so quickly and so well.

serenity · 01/02/2006 13:29

oh yes, pull-ups - invention of the devil. Never work in potty training ime.
