I've got the same problem with pants confusion, I suppose I have to keep persevering. At least we're saving money on nappies. Good job really as we're spending a fortune on washing powder

We've had a few short trips out of the house and the first time he wet himself, but after that he's been OK. I'm going to gradually increase the length of time we're out of the house. Do you take a potty with you when you go out or use a toilet? Not really sure what to do on that front. Advice please.....?

Vossy · 22/01/2006 19:08

Well, day 10 now and for the first time this morning DS1 went to the potty when no one was around, pulled down trousers and pants, weed loads and then pulled everything back up again!! Never thought it would happen (hasn't happened again since but been at my mum's most of the day) and was despairing on day 6. Still have to remind him but he can obviously do it. Had the pants and then trousers confusion a few days ago but that seems to have sorted itself out more or less. Just one wee accident today and 1 poo earlier on but definitely on the right track. DON'T GIVE UP!!!! Not quite a graduate but nearly there and can't thank you all enough for sharing your advice and support.

Vossy · 22/01/2006 19:11

Kate100. I've been taking one of those Tommy Tippee travel pottys with me. seems to do the trick ok and then no wee to try and dispose of. Liners are quite expensive but apparently tescos are doing BOGOF at the mo.

Hi sounds like you're really getting their Vossy well done - hang in there Kate it will happen honest. We've got a tommy tippee pottee thing as well - but all I have done for the liners is nappy sacs and the cheapest value sanitary towels I can get my hands on.

We are trying to use the toilets as well but the potty came in really handy today when DS told us in the middle of the car park that he needed a wee - and I know Cod suggested using the car wheel but have only just got him to sit down using the potty again and don't want to put ideas in his head again.

Arghhh am back for some advice.
Ds has been accident free in the day for 10 days now which is fab. However he is now insisting on not wearing a nappy of a night but he isnt dry of a night. He is only 2.3 and I was going to wait a while before I tried nights. However the past couple he has been taking nappy off. I went in this morning to be greeted with poo and wee all over the floor!!!!!! He has been going to the toilet by himself etc so how do I deal with this?????? I just cleaned it up told him he should poo/wee on toilet and all he said was its stinky mummy.

nailpolish · 23/01/2006 09:06

last night was dd1's 1st night without a nappy. what a disaster. she had been saying all day she didnt want/need a nappy in her bed at night, so we went for it

she got up 3 times before midnight to say she needed a wee wee, so i took her to the toilet and she did one each time, great

then about 3 am she came through to say she had done one in her bed, i changed the sheets and pyjamas and put a nappy on her, which was wet in the morning

should i not have put a nappy on her? what should i do tonight?

today i am going shopping for more sheets though and some of these pampers bed sheet thingys, the waterproof sheet i bought is horrible to sleep on

any advice would be great x

harpsichordcarrier · 23/01/2006 10:41

cod should I do a star chart or shall I see if I can manage without it and use it as a last resort?

kate100 · 23/01/2006 11:01

Bad start to the day, I was in the bathroon and ds came running in saying I need a wee, so he sat on the potty and said I've done a wee in your bedroom mommy, so I went to investigate and it looked like a horse had wandered through our bedroom, I had no idea that much poo could come out of such a small bum. Still at least he did it all in one goinstead of eeking it out an inch at a time like on Friday. I think I'm going to become a prisoner in my own home. I'm persevering with the pants, but haven't progressed to trousers yet. I need to do so many things but they are all away from the potty and I'm too scared to leave it

ponygirl · 23/01/2006 11:04

Update! I was away for the weekend so dh persevered alone: lots of accidents, only 1 wee on the toilet, so no progress to speak of. This morning, Day 7, ds2 did a wee on the toilet first thing (came in to me at 7 saying he needed the toilet) and went into pants and trousers. No accidents but came and sat on the toilet a couple of times. The first time the pants were damp but did nothing. The second time pants and trousers were pretty damp, but did nothing. Put him in clean clothes and within seconds of being downstairs did a huge wee on the floor (thankfully on tiles). He was really upset and couldn't seem to stop it, though that could have been because he was crying. I let him finish and we talked about what had happened and what should have happened and how yucky it was to be all wet. More clean things. He's asked to go to the toilet again since but only squeezed out the teeniest bit of poo (he hasn't been for a while!). Lots of praise anyway. But it's pre-school this afternoon and I think I'm going to have to put him in a pull-up. Aaaargh! Encourage me please - I know I have to keep on going but I'm at that stage where I've gone too far and made too much progress to give up and say he's not ready but have not got far enough to say he's even remotely trained.

cod, I think I need some "encouragement" ie nagging .

Thursday, ds went round naked from the waist down and almost all wees were in either the toilet or potty. Poo on the floor (but wooden so not too bad).

Friday morning the same, then Friday afternoon we went out to a friends house and he had a nappy on (I know, bad PC).

Saturday morning I went out and DH put a nappy on him. In the afternoon we had combination of pants and nothing (needed help with pulling pants down but weed in potty.) Also pooed in pants (not sure he has much poo concept yet.

Sunday am he had pants on again and weed on the potty (just didn't take pants down first). DH put nappy on him afterwards and he stayed in nappy the rest of the day.

Today he is at nursery (in a nappy )

I was thinking of going for it properly at nursery but haven't.

I think I need to be kicked a bit (and say I will try again tomorrow?) I do feel he is getting the idea of at least wees and know that having nappies on as well isn't a good idea....

harpsichordcarrier · 23/01/2006 11:48

no cod I didn't think lovely mum comment was for me
am harridan of mum
was thanking you for the advice
have just put her down for nap in pants [scared emoticon]
I tried to put a wee catching mat underneath but apparently that was too crinkly
so she'll be awake in about ten minutes probably
lummy this is hard work
