So far: lots of trips to the loo this morning (at my instigation). Two accidents, but nothing on the toilet. He seems to be fairly good at holding on (about 1.5 - 2 hours between accidents) but not so good at letting go. He won't sit on the toilet for long though, so we're not getting much of a chance for it to happen by accident!

kate100 · 19/01/2006 13:26

Hi all can I join you? I need help as I've never done this before and doubt my parenting skills are up to the task.

OK, so after ds1's 2 and half check yeterday and making half hearted attempts to get him on the potty we are now officially in training. However I already seem to have hit a snag, after making a chart and telling ds he would get a sticker for doing a wee or poo in the potty, he then spent 45 minutes slowly depositing a poo in 5 goes!! Evertime I flushed away one bit he'd toddle off and come racing back to me laughing manically saying 'Mommy I done some more', and sure enough he would have done. He usually completely fills his nappy in one go and after I change it he never does anymore. Now while I am completely amazed he has done a poo on the potty and quite impressed by the amount of control he must have over his bowels, I am not prepared to spend 45 minutes in a toilet so he can have more bloody Thomas stickers, please help me.

Still, at least I haven't had to clean anything off the floor

oo-er found this thread by mistake...... would like to join in.

my dd2 is 2.8yrs, been potty training for 3 days - using the sticker card method, a sticker for every wee/poo in the potty..... i did have pull ups but she was using it like a nappy - so i have ditched them and we made a cushion that she has for the car seat (friends suggestion) incase of accidents....

good luck all xx

LoonyMum · 19/01/2006 14:22

Forgot to say, she went all by herself today with no prompting - its funny how the smallest things can make you feel like a proud mummy.

ponygirl · 19/01/2006 15:15

So, about 4 accidents today, but ds2 has just asked to go to the toilet and done his first wee on the toilet! Hurrah! Think he was quite surprised too! And then rather taken aback by all the hurrahs and whooping!

MeAndMyBoy · 19/01/2006 15:25

'Lo everyone.

Nemo & DS - yeah the first graduates fantastic going you two.

Hi to the new ladies, come on in - the waters ummm maybe I won't finish that!

Kate100 it's amazing how much poo a child can produce isn't it. DS today has done 3 poos usually like your DS1 he does one and that's it done for the day. As you say at least he's getting it in the loo for you. Keep going the novelty will wear off - DS stopped asking for stickers about 10 days into PT and he's not even interested that I'm still keeping track.

Ponygirl - hang in there it will happen.

Serenity i give DS apple juice to drink if he stuggles to poo. He had a couple of days of no poo and then really strained to produce one (sorry for the details) so he had apple juice for a couple of drinks and then was fine again.

Robin3 - I had the same issue with DS he goes to nursery for 3 days too. My plan was to take those 3 days off and then ds would end up with nearly 2 weeks at home potty training to get the idea before adding nursery into it (hubby ended up doing it as he was off work any way) and it certainly helped making sure he had it fixed in his mind what we were trying to get him to do. It did all go pear shaped at nursery as expected but at home he is fine.

lact8 glad the clinic trip was a sucess - sorry to hear DS2's poorly tummy is back though fingers crossed it doesn't last long (does he have a secret stash of dried friut somewhere lol).

Mcmudda lol at the poo journey.

MeAndMyBoy · 19/01/2006 15:27

oops crossed posts ponygirl - excellent - maybe he'll try again to see if it has the same effect on you lol

loonymum - great idea about the cushions and well done for ditching the pullups too.

Well we are back from sunny Watford so now is the time to bite the bullet and get this potty training cracked.

Dd is fine at home. Uses the potty when she needs to with no accidents. I've been putting cotton pants on her but she keeps taking them off.

My only niggle now is going out. Do I just suck it and put her in the pants and let her learn through accidents?

I'm not doing anything for the next 5 days apart from dd's 45 min music class tomorrow so should I do some little trips out like to the park etc with pants on?

serenity · 19/01/2006 16:08

Cod said no nappies! If I have to risk it so do you!

dd2 has gone tooooo far now - took off her nappy when she was supposed to be in bed and put on Big Girl Knickers..stayed dry all night, but weed on floor when she came into our room this morning

lact8 · 19/01/2006 17:10

aargh!!! only time to send out quick SOS message... drowning in wee here... if i ever make it back to dry land i'll post again

robin3 · 19/01/2006 17:33

Been to buy 15 pairs of pants with cars on...now got to purchase some choc buttons and put batteries in to potty and we'll be flying! Nursery tomorrow so Sat is the big pants day 1.

Davros · 19/01/2006 18:10

Blimmin long thread, but I've got the info I need from the beginning.
DD is also at nursery 3 mornings a week but they are quite willing to change nappies or deal with wet pants, they don't mind and they will do everything they can to help get her trained. Ha ha, I should put her in there fulltime.
She understands totally and NEVER has poo accidents (famous last) but is quite willing to wee on the floor/furniture and in her pants but not every time. She did a Paula Radcliffe into a puddle the other day

Redwood · 19/01/2006 21:56

Hi, all going preety well DD is improving slowly, had fantastic day yesterday at nursery... no accidents! However today was not good as i did less reminding. Also tried putting her on toilet and she screamed and refused, I would have to really hold her down which dosent to seem to fit with relaxed weeing or pooing! Any tips on persauding her as not looking forward to using public ones when out!

kate100 · 19/01/2006 22:26

I did not know that one child could produce so much wee. DS had been on the potty to wee, 16 times, between 10 and 7 this evening, as well as 7 poos!!!! How is that possible?! How can it all have come out of such a small person. He seems to try and eek out tiny drops just to get a sticker, I hope that the novelty wears off and them he'll only go when he wants to. Haven't tried him with pants on yet, just been running around with nothing on, I think it may confuse the issue.

I've put him to bed in a nappy and out the potty at the end of the bed and told him to get up and wee in it in the morning. We'll see how that goes. I'm afraid I'm wimping out tomorrow morning, we're looking round a school and I feel they might not let him in if he wees all over the floor

I think ds2's getting the message. He did 2 wees on the toilet at his own prompting yesterday, but there was no poo all day. After his bath he asked three times to have his night nappy off so he could go to the toilet but nothing happened. And it was the first thing he said when he came downstairs from his room, but nothing. He's got pre-school this morning so I've had to put him in a pull-up, but I've told him to ask the playleader to take him to the loo (though sure he won't!). Then we've got to go to Sainsbury's, but when we get home it's back into pants!
