Tomorrow .

DS has gone to nursery now (although did do a wee in the toilet this morning first)

MeAndMyBoy · 18/01/2006 08:55

Why don't you carry on when he gets back from Nursery?

Go on you know you want to

lact8 · 18/01/2006 09:00

not that we're trying to put any pressure on you or anything! it must be fun tho seen as were all so eager for you to start - not that we want to laugh at someone elses exploits now that our own are relatively well behaved!!

He's at nursery all day so we will start tomorrow .

Am looking forward to all the expertise there is here .

ponygirl · 18/01/2006 09:34

Day 2: he's wearing pants happily but refusing to sit on the loo currently. Am not pushing it, just waiting for the accident! Complicated day as I've been asked to help out at pre-school this afternoon and older children have swimming which is a half-hour drive away, so have bought some pull-ups ("special pants"). Not happy about it, as I hate them, but only option for this afternoon I think. Must go check on him...

MeAndMyBoy · 18/01/2006 11:30

PiccadillyCircus - good luck for tomorrow,

Ponygirl - woohoo wearing pants good lad. Yep just expect the accidents and be prepared to change them and carry on as if nothing has happened. When used pull ups a couple of times I still got DS to tell me if he needed a wee or poo and then we could leg it to the toilet/ use portable potty - so he kept in the rhythm IFSWIM

Vossy · 18/01/2006 12:47

Still don't feel I'm getting anywhere and day 6 already. Wouldn't sit on the potty or toilet all day at nursery yesterday but no accidents either until afternoon - at least I know he can hold it in I suppose. Once in the car he didn't stop having accidents until he went to bed but refused potty or toilet! 2 accidents so far today and he's just gone to preschool. Tells me when he's had an accident. I'd asked him literally 2 mins beforehand if he needed a wee but said no! Can only get him to sit on potty if I threaten to take toys away/turn off tv. Feel exasperated!!!!!

vossy agree with cod and you must keep going. MY ds was having lots of accidents and for him it was when i was prompting him, he hated being told/taken instead he did better going when he felt like. He was doing same as your ds and I would take him/ask him and a min later he would wet so I just backed off and left potty where he could see it. He just started using it and so far we are on our 3rd accident free day for both. I have now moved the potty into a different room but he has got the gist of it so is still going to use it.

DS has progressed today to now demanding that the door be shut and we stand outside the room while he is having a poo..lol He then shouts finished look mummy Am very proud of him.

Vossy · 18/01/2006 14:11

Thanks you two. Makes sense. He does hate being told what to do. Let's see what this afternoon brings.

serenity · 18/01/2006 14:59

Glad everyone is getting along OK!

We've been fine so far, even with clothes on! DD wanted to go when we dropped the DSs at school so I took her into the Nursery to go and subsquently got bullied into going to the M&T group this morning. DD was a star, I kept taking her down to the toilets to try, she didn't go, but then again we had no accidents either. She's managed to strip off over the afternoon so I'm about to get her dressed to go and pick DSs up.

My main worry atm is that we haven't had a poo since monday night.........bets on that it will appear this school run?!

MeAndMyBoy · 18/01/2006 21:35

Evening all. LOl at your DS Nemo - so sweet .

Vossy hang in there he will get the message that this is what's happening and what he has to do.

Serenity - how did the school run go? sounds like a good day for you.

Redwood, lact8 how did you do today?

Well all went pear shaped today as expected - 2 toilet stars from nursery and came home in a pull up - they didn't bother to put him back in pants after his nap. But he's used the loo at home since he got back.

Tomorrow should be interesting - we have a new stairs carpet being fitted tomorrow morning, and we don't have a downstairs toilet.

mcmudda · 18/01/2006 22:10

Right - 3 wees in the toilet today. First one was after I plonked him on the loo while cleaning the masive poo out of his pants. As usual he denied it was there, but the stench in the lounge was bad enough to peel paint.

Second one was at bedtime - he is put on the loo no matter what.

Third one was as he was climbing into bed and he said "Uhoh I feel a poo peeping out [shudder emoticon]" so we ran down to the loo and he weed, sat there for 10 mins telling us the journey of said peeping poo in great detail until declaring it would wait until the morning

And I know that poo will be in his nappy and not in the toilet tomorrow.

lact8 · 18/01/2006 22:14

lol mcmudda, tale of poo journey v funny!

lact8 · 18/01/2006 22:32

our trip to baby clinic went really well, no accidents and out for 3 and half hrs so feeling more confident about maybe having a life beyond these four walls again made myself lol, who'm i kidding? having a life and 3 kids!?

serenity, nemo, mamb, think cod should be handing out certificates to you shortly to prove your fully trained!

vossy keep chin up (and spare pants handy ) won't be long before gets fed up of being soggy

dodgy belly returned for ds2 this evening - bleurgh. despite my earlier concerns ds2 not in least traumatised by it, stripped himself off, ensuring it got on his socks and walked all over living room carpet (beige) what fun! kids walk miles in own home...

poo situation annoying, no wee accidents but just can't get him to poo in toilet. think he'd do the sames as nemo's, but spent ages getting him to make it to bathroom so don't want to bring potty back ito rest of house as tends to wander with potty full of wee especially when feedin ds2. any suggestions?

ponygirl · 19/01/2006 09:35

Well yesterday was a washout really because we ended up being out from 12 til 6. He was in pull-ups but I couldn't keep taking him to the loo, so the only progress we can have possibly made is backwards! Never mind: Day 3. No accidents yet but he's reluctant to sit on the loo. [Sigh.] Must persevere though.

nutcracker · 19/01/2006 09:42

I agree with Cod about the not asking the, thing, cos they will either say 'yeah' they wanna go cos they are bored and fancy a look round the loo, or say 'no', cos they can't be bothered.

Just plonk them on every so often, especially before you go out, and on arrival at somewhere too.

Vossy · 19/01/2006 10:23

Thanks for all your encouragement. Feeling loads better. Going very well today so far but still only 1020am! No trousers or pants and he's been taking himself off to the potty! Out to a group this afternoon with loads of distractions so that will be the test but all his friends are trained so hopefully that will encourage him. At least I know he can do it.

robin3 · 19/01/2006 10:26

Cod....need some help (or anyone else with advice for that matter!)

DS1 is 2.1 and I think very ready to be potty trained. He goes to nursery and has frequent visits to the toilet with other children and we've had potty around etc.

Anyway...read Gina Ford and decided to go with the just get them sitting on it in front of the TV to start off with. Up to now it's been in the bathroom next to the toilet. I wait until after breakfast, gather some books and noddy's on TV. DS1 agrees to get on potty but gets straight off again and I ask him to stay sitting for a minute whilst we look at some books. He stands up again and looks me straight between the eyes and says 'Mummy potty baby - Jonny go toliet'. Ok I think fair enough, and take apart potty to put on toilet but he won't get on it.

So what do I do?

  1. Persevere with potty in all rooms?
  2. Take him to the toilet?
  3. Go straight to the wearing pants option rather than all this Gina preamble?

Trouble is DS goes to nursery 3 days a week so difficult to maintain consistent approach.

serenity · 19/01/2006 10:35

Oh god nowhere near trained yet! I haven't been brave enough to really go anywhere yet!

Well, everything went fine yesterday until DD overnapped (iyswim!) Dh had to wake her up, and in the midst of all the tears and grumpyness she wet herself. Never mind! Still no sign of this elusive poo, so I was starting to get a bit worried last night. She desperately wanted to go but couldn't, so I cheated I gave a her a dose of Lactulose last night and this morning. Thank god it worked because she's just done the most ginormous skinky poo ever. Now that's out of the way I might actually venture out for a walk thsi afternoon!

serenity · 19/01/2006 10:44

Well we're all doing 3 (I think!) although I think most of us are going commando at home - getting the hang of it before attempting the fiddly pulling things down bit!

Have you got a potty or a potty chair? I think ordinary pottys are quite awkward to sit for any length of time tbh. WE've got a potty chair in the living room and a step and training seat on the toilet, so DD can choose which one she wants to use and that's working OK atm.

Good luck!

robin3 · 19/01/2006 10:51

Got a potty chair thing which seems really comfy...haven't put the batteries in it but apparently it makes flushing noises. Maybe that will help.

Maybe I need to get more incentives too. Think he'll do just about anything for a choc button...bless him!

Thanks for encouragement. I will keep going.

serenity · 19/01/2006 10:54

Our potty makes noises too (a royal fanfare!) - drove me mad as it would go off when you walked past it. I've been too mean to put more in, although now she's actually using it I might reconsider

serenity · 19/01/2006 10:55

put more batteries in I should say!

nutcracker · 19/01/2006 11:18

For anyone who's child isn't keen on the potty I say go straight for the toilet instead.

I got a soft seat to go over the normal loo seat and ds was well impressed and more than happy to sit on it.
