Am I the only parent who does not go out drinking?

Or am I really boring? Every month or so there are mum's nights out and they get absolutely hammered. I mean they will start off with several shots before going on to the first pub, be out until the early hours then vomit several times.

Now, I did all of the above in my teenage years and early twenties and couldn't think of anything worse now.

I would feel bad on the kids coming home in such a state. I am starting to look like the boring mum who doesn't like a good time.

Is it just me?

The menz are not drunk. Drink is expensive at strip clubs.

Those poor children.

usualsuspect · 21/10/2011 13:04

I don't go out and get drunk ,I stay in and get drunk

I wouldn't dare leave the house at my age

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 13:05

"but you do sound like a insufferably smug twat. I'm sure you're not but that's how your post sounds."

I don't think she does. I agree with her. Most of my friends are the same. My friends and I do go out and have a few drinks, but not stupid amounts as none of us likes a hangover.

Drinking until you are sick is teenage behaviour IMO.

bejeezus · 21/10/2011 13:06

WHY should women grow old gracefully?

people can gow old how ever they like

Menz don't get drunk. They get merry and let their bald patches down.

Fatshionista · 21/10/2011 13:09

I like a drink. DP is one to drink at home but I go out to dress up and dance. Sometimes I do get very very drunk but I am rarely sick unless I have mixed gin/sambuca with red wine.

That being said, I don't go out every month, DP and I rarely go out together and I have been violently sick in the past. I still get up and look after my DC's.

StoneSoup · 21/10/2011 13:11

Each to their own, OP, but I love a few bevvies. I spent last night in a gay club in Soho with some friends 9we are all straight women in our 30s/40s) and got mildly bladddered. Grow old gracefully my arse!

Being sick in the street is not cool, though. You have to know your limits and make a plan to get home safely, too.

rycooler · 21/10/2011 13:21

Hully - a drunk woman is always more embarrassing than a drunk man, even in these enlightened times. I'm all for equality but vomiting in the street like a rabid dog does nothing for my self esteem.

StoneSoup · 21/10/2011 13:22

What shit@@rycooler

Nobody looks good when they are drunk and lairy. I find it preposterous that people think women somehow come off worse. Examine your reasons. Dodgy.

Vibrant · 21/10/2011 13:24

"I love going out and drinking. I love staying in and drinking. I hate being properly drunk, but it kind of creeps up on you doesn't it?"

I think you and I would get on well Astronaut [hgrin]. I'm fast heading for 50 and am regularly out with the mums from school having quite a few drinks, and this week I've been out with an 80 year old and 70 year old, who knocked back the pints and were a real laugh.

Whatever floats your boat IMO ... if you're happy with what you're doing Matilda then it doesn't matter what anyone else does.

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 13:24

you're right ry. It's the unseen womb wot does it.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 21/10/2011 13:33

If they'd only stick to a small sherry or a nice port and lemon.

StoneSoup · 21/10/2011 13:35

Glass of white win for the laydeeeee

ShirleyKnot · 21/10/2011 13:41

I really think that stinking of ganga, giggling at nothing and shoving whole toblerones straight down your gannet is much worse.

PinotScreechio · 21/10/2011 13:44

Mine's a Dubonnet, just like Her Maj

Pagwatch · 21/10/2011 13:45

Tuftyfinch

I watched dh do that.

It was like sieving vomit.

GetOrfMo1Land · 21/10/2011 13:45

I really like going out, but have found out that since I turned 30 (a) my metabolism has gone to shit so can no longer eat like a pig without getting fat (b) two glasses of rose and I am slurring (c) I want to SIT DOWN in a pub and not have the music so loud that I CAN'T HEAR MYSELF THINK and (d) the young whippersnappers scare me in the pub toilets.

GetOrfMo1Land · 21/10/2011 13:45

I was once sick over DP's feet. He had flip flops on

boglach · 21/10/2011 13:46

I have moved on, grown up and become a better person since I became a parent

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 13:46

Go and put them on the MAW thread list. But do it properly.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 21/10/2011 13:46

That's from someone who spent her formative years at Torrington May Carnival (neat tequila from age 11. Cider for the little 'uns) is it Getorf?

IwoulddoPachacuti · 21/10/2011 13:48

I got out every couple of months and get drunk. No harm in it, I'm still fairly young (28) and just because I'm a mother it doesn't mean I need to live like a nun. It's not every week Smile
