Am I the only parent who does not go out drinking?

Or am I really boring? Every month or so there are mum's nights out and they get absolutely hammered. I mean they will start off with several shots before going on to the first pub, be out until the early hours then vomit several times.

Now, I did all of the above in my teenage years and early twenties and couldn't think of anything worse now.

I would feel bad on the kids coming home in such a state. I am starting to look like the boring mum who doesn't like a good time.

Is it just me?

You're definitely not boring. I struggled to deal with a hangover without children and I know I would be crap at it now.

PinotScreechio · 21/10/2011 11:54

Joiking is illegal in 12 countries. Fact.

Yes total cow.

Beautiful though so she can be a bit snarky and get away with it.

I used to drink all the time. Worked with men, got taken out every night, sometimes went for a quick breakfast in spitalfields then to my desk.

But I am old and hangovery now.

Probably will get drunk on my birthday. But elegantly, in a nice hotel where you just slide to the floor and someone puts a tablecloth over you.

Classy, me

TheBrideofFrankenstein · 21/10/2011 11:54

Ok, am going to balance the thread by confessing that I do go out and get a bit drunk sometimes - definitely not to the stage of throwing up/passing out/ being out of control, but (e.g.) last night I had a couple of G&Ts and then we had 3 bottles of wine between 4 of us over dinner. I don't really get hangovers though (or I do but not on that amount) and I'm a morning person anyway. Got in at midnight. Got up at 6.30 with DS. Not a problem.

I go out probably 2 nights a week- once with friends, once with DH and friends, and get pissed probably once a week.

LauraShigihara · 21/10/2011 11:55

I think you either enjoy it or you don't.

I know lots of parents who love to get drunk and see it as a great treat at the end of the week. I can understand how it oils the wheels and makes for a nice chatty evening with a few good stories to tell the next day.

Personally, I am not a good drinker - I get headaches with wine, can only drink a small amount of anything before being pissed and I hate that feeling of wasting money being out of control. And I get monster hangovers so I can completely wipe out the next day as I would be fit for nothing.

I never go to pubs because if you are sober there is nothing worse than being stuck with a load of drunks waffling on [hwink]

TheBrideofFrankenstein · 21/10/2011 11:56

Oh excellent- while I was writing that loads of others have already fessed up Grin

Im with Reality. It's the inference of 'I've moved on, grown up & become better since I became a parent' that feels unbearably smug.

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 11:58

Never ever joik when in charge of children. Ever. You will explode.

rycooler · 21/10/2011 12:00

Op; I'm with you. There is nothing sadder than a group of middle-aged women 'out on the piss' - it's embarrassing. I like a drink but I've never been drunk, and as for vomiting - jeez, that's bad enough in young men but women? - I'd never show my face in public again.

PinotScreechio · 21/10/2011 12:00

I don't joik.

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 12:01

Middle aged women should stay in and do the ironing. Or better yet just get in their graves as they are embarrassing and pointless.

TheBrideofFrankenstein · 21/10/2011 12:02

[Gets into grave. Feels need for wine. Clambers out and goes to the fridge]

Well, I go out for a few drinks...don't have enough to puke in gutters, do have enough to flirt with unsuitable men and have even occasionally snogged one of them Shock

However, I don't go back to the DC while I'm drunk, they're either with their Dad or another family member.

13 days out of 14 I'm a fan-fuckin-tastic parent (even if I do say so myself Grin), and I don't feel bad about the 1 day when I'm not. In the same way that my ex is an okay parent 1 day out of 14 and clearly doesn't care about the other 13!

So shoot me!

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 12:08

I have in fact started a thread about the utter pointlessness of middle aged women.

ShirleyKnot · 21/10/2011 12:08

Dead kittens are sadder than middle aged women drinking.

BUT THAT'S IT. There is NOTHING worse than dead kittens and drunk 40 year old women.

Pagwatch · 21/10/2011 12:09

I vomited very neatly into my handbag once.

Did the clasp up and carried on as if nothing had happened. I had been to a private champagne function at the Savoy.

It is the common people doing it in the street who should be condemned. One should do it with some grace.
And women. Bloody women. What are they thinking? They should be at home.

Hullygully · 21/10/2011 12:09

What about drunk 40 yr old women wearing dead kittens as brooches?

That is quite sad.

Pagwatch · 21/10/2011 12:10

Oooh shirley
When one hits 50 is it ok again?

Drinking I mean. Dead kittens is always bad

ShirleyKnot · 21/10/2011 12:10

I'm DRUNK NJWOW

I love to get pissed but as I have a Northern Stomach, have never vomited.
