How was everyone's summer?

So...after having sniffed our new lovely course books, did anyone start yet on actually reading them?

This year I'm doing A215 Creative Writing and A300 20th C. Literature. Full time, then. And I'm supposed to go back to work within next few weeks Hmm After having procrastinated terribly last year and barely scraping by I am somewhat erm, well, I'm rather panicking about managing it all this year.

Let's start moaning about our first assignments!

Just trying to decide whether to do TMA01 on Jane Eyre or Northanger Abbey.

winnybella · 31/10/2011 20:51

Ah, yes. When is that due? Soonish, no?

I've got to finish this essay and start on the other one, but honestly, I'm staring at it and just feel all panicky. It's as if I was paralyzed Hmm

Motivate me, people. Pleeeaase Sad

Northanger Abbey Please Miss scary. Grin

Come on winny-you will feel so much better when it's done .

Um what about when you've finished, pm me and I'll send you some halloween treats?

Interested in this thread?

Grin Halloween treats, you say? Ooh, you've just reminded me that DP went off to London this morning without the shopping list Shock I'm in dire need of golden syrup, those lovely mint chocolates-Bedrick's? Bendricks?, creme eggs (can you get those now or is it only around Easter?), Twinings peppermint tea (can't get peppermint tea in Paris Hmm)...hmmm...what else would I want? Marmite, of course. And mince pies! What else, what else?

I know I'll feel so much better once it's done and it's All Saints Day tomorrow so no nursery and I won't be able to write with DD home and they are both due in 3 hours Hmm But I just cannot make myself do it. It's very odd. I know I have to and yet I can't Hmm Sad

I did NA for tma01 last year. IIRC it's relatively easy- text analysis, yes?

OP posts:
winnybella · 31/10/2011 21:28

Oh, just to specify, I intend to ask DP to get all that, not you Grin

OP posts:
schrodingersbat · 31/10/2011 21:44

Phew, I was a little concerned there for a moment. [hgrin] I was just imagining the postage on marmite, syrup and creme eggs to France! [hshock]

They're doing 'scream-eggs' (geddit?) at the moment, I think they're the same just the yellow bit is green IYKWIM, they probably taste the same. So you maybe in luck.

Now do not let me catch you on here again tonight.

winnybella · 31/10/2011 21:59

Ooh, good to know about the scream eggs, will tell DP to get them.

I'm doing my freewrite now as the one I did before didn't really lead me anywhere Hmm but it's very ordered and makes sense. Free associations, free associations...

Oh, Jesus Christ and all his cherubins. it'll be a long night. And to think that had I done the essays earlier I could have been now enjoying a lovely glass or three of Medoc. And watch a movie...DP away...all relaxed iyswim...love being alone from time to time...but no, I'm a lazy idiot and now will have to stay up all night Angry

It's almost 4 am here. Have sent the first one. Don't know whether the tutor will give me a day more for the other one. YAAAAWWWWN.

OP posts:
winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:02

Is no one procrastinating then? Really?

WSP, come and talk to me about the A215 tma01.

OP posts:
Prolesworth · 01/11/2011 19:06

I still haven't read the self-help info about procrastination that my counsellor gave me er, FOUR MONTHS AGO Shock Grin

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:09

Is that what you are working on now, winny? How are you getting on?

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:12

And really shouldn't we have a November thread? It makes us look like half-arsed lazy procrastinators still stuck on last months work if we don't...erm, OK yeah. It's a fair cop Grin

winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:13
Grin

I really thought I would be better this year, but, no.
Nevermind, Wine is lovely and I'll go and read The Sense of An Ending and relax...lovely tutor gave me extension til Monday...that's lots of time Grin

fluffythevampirestabber · 01/11/2011 19:14

Can I join? I'm at uni full time and I have 3 assignments of 4,500 words due in the next 3 weeks.

SO WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING ON MN INSTEAD OF READING?

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:15

God yes, take it easy for a day or two after your late night.

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:16

Fluffy, sounds like you and this thread are a match made in heaven Grin

winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:16

Oh, true, we should have a November thread nevermind that some of us are still working on the Oct stuff. When's your tma due, WSP?

Yes, I'm supposed to be working on the CW tma, but I'm taking a break as I have stayed up til 4am last night doing the other assignment.

Dunno, I wrote a few freewrites, but only with one prompt and they led me where I don't really want to go Hmm so perhaps I'll try others.

Did you write a proper little story with a beginning and ending? I think that's quite difficult with only 750 words.

OP posts:
fluffythevampirestabber · 01/11/2011 19:18

Grin as I said on the lone parents student thread I am working on the "osmosify" theory - ie if I print the stuff out and put it oh so neatly in folders which are all colour coded and beautifully labelled, the information will osmosify itself into my brain Wink

winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:18

fluffy-welcome, the more the merrier. Is it 4,500 words in total or x3? And what are you studying?

OP posts:
fluffythevampirestabber · 01/11/2011 19:19

4,500 x 3

Law

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:22

TMA01 for AA316 due 7th November.

For A215 I just did a chunk of writing with no particular beginning or end. It really was quite without shape, just a kind of description of a walk based on the stuff thrown up by the freewrite (a fallen tree). It did say in the TMA booklet it didn't have to be coherent have a definitive shape as we haven't officially covered that yet.

wildstrawberryplace · 01/11/2011 19:23

Oh god fluffy you have my sympathies. I worked in law prior to being a SAHM and my god it was dry.

winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:24

Uh uh. Go away then and do some work, then. One assignment a week, you'll be fine. See, I need to start doing that colour coding and folder thing-maybe that would help me Hmm

OP posts:
fluffythevampirestabber · 01/11/2011 19:27

I've just done some reading for my Jurisprudence essay and I'm on a coffee break Confused

I must go and read another chapter. I must go and read another chapter. I must go and read another chapter.

winnybella · 01/11/2011 19:29

Yes, fallen tree is the prompt I chose, but for some reason it leads me to a weeping willow by my grandmother's house every single time.

I think it might have been more the idea of sitting in a quiet kitchen with a cup of steaming coffee, writing effortlessly elegant spare prose a la Colm Toibin or some such and making loads of money out of it that appealed to me than the actual process of writing Hmm

I have to say some of the stuff people post on the OU forums is just terrible And then everybody comes on to say how much they loved it Shock
