How was everyone's summer?

So...after having sniffed our new lovely course books, did anyone start yet on actually reading them?

This year I'm doing A215 Creative Writing and A300 20th C. Literature. Full time, then. And I'm supposed to go back to work within next few weeks Hmm After having procrastinated terribly last year and barely scraping by I am somewhat erm, well, I'm rather panicking about managing it all this year.

Let's start moaning about our first assignments!

Ha! I haven't looked on the forum yet. Saving that joy for tomorrow. Tonight is Wine and a movie with DH, tomorrow...well tomorrow is another day.

Haven't done any freewrites/clusters or anything. Argh.

winnybella · 16/10/2011 19:34

Have you written before, strawberry? I wrote little stories and poems as a child and had my essays pinned to the wall in primary school Hmm Grin

And I have the 20th C. lit tma due on the 28th as well.

Ah, fuck it. Wine

Yes, I've always written, but I'm very much a light-under-a-bushel kind of person and I'm hoping that doing A215 will force me into sticking my head above the parapet. (Mixed metaphors anyone?)

Crap! Just looked at the A215 website and I'm now thinking WTF have I done?

Do I actually have to join in all the bloody wiffling and waffling and sharing that is going on? NOoooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Is it OK to just send TMAs in once they are done? Erm this is going to sound bad, but I just don't really have the time to dredge though all the piffle on those forums. Or frankly the inclination. God I'm so very antisocial and mean, but FFS.

schroeder · 18/10/2011 11:59

Hi all, here I am sober and panicky, my first TMA is due on Friday 2000 words [hshock]. I have managed 800 today, but I've got to go to work soon.

I feel like I would rather clear the drain of manky old spaghetti than write this stupid essay and worst of all reference it to a blinking video.

strawberry You don't have to go on the forums, they can be pretty annoying, at the same time though, it can be comforting to see that other people are having the same problems you are.

winnybella · 18/10/2011 13:44

I don't think you have to, strawberry...although I feel like we're expected to participate Hmm

Go, schroeder, go Grin

I haven't even started yet.

winnybella · 20/10/2011 16:38

My tutor has posted lots of activities for us...not many people responding so far...

My tmas are due on the 27th and 28th. I can't believe I'm doing the exact same thing I did last year i.e. waiting til the last minute.

How's everyone else?

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 20/10/2011 17:43

27th Oct and 8th November here. Can't get my head around the deadlines not being Fridays!

It's half term next week, and we'll be away from home, DH will be working etc god it's going to be a total nightmare getting it done. In fact, a might be in order.

schroeder · 20/10/2011 20:43

I have achieved exactly nothing today.

In my defence I've been to work and baked buns for the stupid pta.

Am now watching bake off and surfing, my head is too mushy for politics.

1000 words to do tomorrow

schroeder · 21/10/2011 12:07

Cor, have put my headdown and wrote 1000 words longhand this morning (I just cannot seem to do the actual writng on the computer Confused), so now just have to type it up and do the references.

Where are all you lot? It's no fun procrastinating by oneself.

wildstrawberryplace · 21/10/2011 12:27

Well done Schroeder!

I just did the first part of my TMA which is only worth 10 marks...but it's a start.

winnybella · 21/10/2011 13:14

I'm here. I should be cleaning the house, looking for a job and above all, writing the tmas.

Well done, schroeder Grin Almost finished, then? Are you sure you're a proper procrastinator? Hmm

strawberry- the freewrite, yes? Am I right in that it's supposed to be focused freewrite hence it doesn't have to be all free associations and all over the place and can be a bit more...er...focused? Hmm Most people on the OU forums seem to post stuff like "clouds-candy floss-visit to the zoo-pink flip flops' iyswim.

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 21/10/2011 14:28

winny - agree. It's meant to be focused so you start with a prompt and just let the ideas flow, but not in a clouds-candyfloss-drivel kind of a way. Kind of allowing ideas for the little piece of fiction/autobiog/biog that we'll do in part 2 of TMA to come out, with little or no censorship.

wildstrawberryplace · 21/10/2011 14:29

I meant the precocious forum posters' drivel not yours obviously Grin

schroeder · 21/10/2011 20:19

I have sent it off! It is probably carp and it nearly killed me, but it DONE [hgrin] Wine

schroeder · 21/10/2011 20:21

Carp? [hshock] Frets about hideous errors in TMA Hmm

winnybella · 21/10/2011 23:36

Wine Wine Wine

OP posts:
mustdash · 22/10/2011 14:55

iCMA done, but I have two TMAs to do by the 8th.

I am staring at a screen with a title, and that is it.

WTF do I do to get past this. (rhetorical) Very [hangry] with myself.

Aim to do 500 good words by kids tea time. Fingers crossed.

schroeder · 24/10/2011 11:43

How are you managing with it being half term?

I find nigh on impossible to get any work done with the constant jabbering.

wildstrawberryplace · 24/10/2011 23:06

Have rush-jobbed part 2 of my TMA. It is very purple prose, I am embarrassed to give it in, but meh, it's done, only 300 words to go for part 3, reckon I could get those done before the deadline...

winnybella · 24/10/2011 23:58

I've written maybe 200 words Hmm Need to finish it by tomorrow and then I'll have 2 days to write the A316 tma (from scratch). Why do I always do that to myself?

Are you writing just a passage of fiction or one with a beginning and ending?

OP posts:
winnybella · 25/10/2011 10:39

It's not going well. I have been MNing, checking the news, lurking on the OU forums, smoking and drinking lots of coffee.

I need to finish this assignment today as will have lots to read before I can start on the A300 one.

Kick me, please.
