How was everyone's summer?

So...after having sniffed our new lovely course books, did anyone start yet on actually reading them?

This year I'm doing A215 Creative Writing and A300 20th C. Literature. Full time, then. And I'm supposed to go back to work within next few weeks Hmm After having procrastinated terribly last year and barely scraping by I am somewhat erm, well, I'm rather panicking about managing it all this year.

Let's start moaning about our first assignments!

Ouch.

Two assignments, not even properly started, 3 days left.

And I think DD might be coming down with chicken pox. Which would leave me with 3 evenings, not whole days.

Wine Wine Wine

Sounds like it might be time to ask for an extension.

How is dd? I hope she's not feeling too bad. If she has got chickenpox there's a chance she might just slob out on the sofa for a few days and not be much bother, so you can get your work done.

winnybella · 25/10/2011 21:46

'Slob out on the sofa' Hahahahahaha No way would she do that. I'm not sure if it's chicken pox, just that they had a case in the nursery (and an assistant told me that they now expect most of the kids who didn't have it yet to get it Hmm) and she has fever, which IIRC appears before the spots. Maybe just a little virus. I need her in the nursery for the next 3 days, damn it.

I might ask for extension for one of the tmas. Argh.

Thanks for support. Did you get your assignment back yet?

Hope DD is OK winny, chickenpox is no fun :(

Definitely ask for an extension and take a bit of pressure off Brew

schroeder · 26/10/2011 20:08

Oh dear, sorry about that (in my defence when dd had chickenpox we had 3 days of her just laying on the sofa half watching the telly and necking calpol at regular intervals, followed by 3 days of reading comics, books and harrasing me to play scrabble. All children are different aren't they?)

I have checked the website and no mark yet, I can't believe how nervous I am about it, every time [hhmm]

Prolesworth · 28/10/2011 11:22

How's DD winny?

Any sign of your TMA schroeder? And how are you finding the representation stuff?

schroeder · 28/10/2011 20:14

No TMA result yet.I've only had time so far to watch the dvd on representation, but it's sort of nice to be looking at things that I already know something about because I can remember it (a bit- I was 7 in 1979)

One of the american professors was kind of difficult to decipher, not just his accent, but he also rambles on.
Not as much though, as some bloke on the forums who goes on and on, takes it very seriously and uses more philosophical language than the tutors do. I really want to tell him stfu, but you can't over there, it's all nicey nicey pussy footing around each other.[hhmm]

How are things going winny? Did you get an extension?

winnybella · 28/10/2011 20:54

Grin Totally agree re:OU forums, schroeder.

So...DD covered in angry rash, but it seems to be urticaria, not CP, although she has two different kinds of rash now...Hmm She looked like a tomato when I took her out of her bath an hour ago and so in panic I have emailed my tutor asking if I can submit tomorrow instead of tonight but she's not answering. A bit late to call her so I guess I'll just plod on and send it half finished. Got extension til Monday for the other course as was sure DD had CP then.

ARGH. What a start Hmm Ok, have only 3 hrs til deadline. Shit.

schroeder · 28/10/2011 23:43

Did ya send it off winny?

winnybella · 28/10/2011 23:58

No. Am still working on it. Am hoping that in view of the email I sent tonight the tutor will take pity on me, but not sure tbh as I just came across one of her emails to us where she says that all requests for extensions must be made well in advance.

This tma is worth only 10% of OCAS but it's not substitutable so if I won't get any marks for it, it'll drag my average down a lot.

I'm pathetic, I really am.

OP posts:
winnybella · 29/10/2011 00:01

And I hate everything I've written before so had to basically start from scratch.

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

I'm not moving off this chair til it's done even if I have to stay up all night and even if the tutor won't mark it.

Grrr.

OP posts:
schroeder · 29/10/2011 10:09

How are ya this morning? Brew

wildstrawberryplace · 30/10/2011 10:34

winny how did you get on? Have you handed something in yet?

winnybella · 30/10/2011 11:20

No, bloody insane day yesterday, just sent DP and DD off to the park and am about to start.

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 30/10/2011 11:32

Hope you have a good day - one thing that was helpful for me was remembering the bit in the rubric about it being about method and evaluating the strategies in the workbook so far, rather than the intrinsic quality or not of my writing...

winnybella · 30/10/2011 11:41

Oh, I missed that bit.
Struggling with the lit essay now, the creative writing wil have to wait til evening, both due tomorrow.
I might have to go out as I can't concentrate with DP and DD around.

How's the A316 going, wsp?

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 30/10/2011 17:17

I'm so behind with the 19th C. Lit. Although I like the novels, I'm finding the surrounding course material a bit tedious. I'm missing the flashes of connective brilliance that ran all the way through A207 :(

winnybella · 30/10/2011 18:24

Yeah, I found the coursebook/critics quite boring and/or difficult- I was very surprised as I love 19th C literature but I was very uninspired throughout the course.

So, it's evening now, DD will be put to bed soonish and then I'll have to write 2 assignments Grin Sad Confused Hmm

wildstrawberryplace · 31/10/2011 11:53

How did you get on last night winny?

God please somebody giz a kick up the bum I really, really, really can't stop procrastinating today. Christmas shopping online FFS.

Prolesworth · 31/10/2011 13:26

did someone ask for a kick up the bum?

glad to oblige :)Brew

good luck all

winnybella · 31/10/2011 14:03

Oooh, I would love to do some Christmas shopping right now. In fact I would do anything other than write this assignment. Still have 1.5 hr before picking DD up from nursery and plan to send it off before then. Then the second one when she's in bed-needs to be sent today.

And I didn't sleep well, DP went off to London so was up for ages last night and got up really early this morning...so I've drunk way too much coffee and am shaking Hmm

How are you, Proles? We need you on here more.

What are you reading now, WSP?

OP posts:
schrodingersbat · 31/10/2011 14:27

Crumbs I need some motivation too, I've been fixing my bath taps and food shopping, it's such a glamorous life!

I really need to crack on though, as I'm already a week behind.

Everyone doing ok?

wildscaryface · 31/10/2011 14:53

Brief name change inspired by schrodingersbat and not at all because of procrastinating

My head actually HURTS from reading critics.

winnybella · 31/10/2011 15:00

Sympathies, they are a PITA. Which novel you're working on at the mo?

I'm not procrastinating, either, oh no...Can't bloody concentrate Hmm

Arrrgghhhhhhhhh Angry
