What do you do that 'perfect' parents would swoon at?

Go on admit it here. Following on from the 'do you sterilise' thread, I'm sure there are lots of things that parents do that would horrify others. Let's keep this a lighthearted thread and no having a go at anyone who shocks you ....

When v desp leave ds (4 months) in the mid of my kingsize bed with a dummy and toy while I go to the loo. Did it just now, he suddenly stopped crying and when I went in his arms were flung out his dummy spat out and his eyes shut was really worried for a mo but luckily his toy was rising and falling on his tummy so knew he was ok! Promise to stop this as soon as he shows signs of rolling over...

Also watch telly while bf and do many other things which I prob think are fine but are bad bad bad!!

nailpolish · 09/12/2005 11:58

put both my dd's to sleep on their fronts from day 1 and didnt give either of them a dummy

hercules · 09/12/2005 11:58

nothing wrong with that pookey!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 09/12/2005 11:59

Well I'm still b/f my two, they are 5.5 and 2. We all co-sleep. And before we all go to bed we have this mantra in which we sit in a circle holding hands and telling each other how beautiful, funny and clever they are. MY kids will never have a complex!

Nightynight · 09/12/2005 12:01

Used to hold them on my hip when they were babies and I was cooking doughnuts (which they ate as well, naturally).

pookey · 09/12/2005 12:01

nailpolish is giving a dummy a good thing hooray if it is I'm not such a bad mummy after all!

pookey · 09/12/2005 12:02

crseih thats sooo sweet - at least they wont have low self esteem!!

nailpolish · 09/12/2005 12:02

pookey, according to the BBC it reduces the risk of cot death if baby has a duumy at night (see other threads)

cutekids · 09/12/2005 12:02

SWEAR!!!

pookey · 09/12/2005 12:04

Oh dear, he mainly has it during the day!!!

Dahlia · 09/12/2005 12:12

Drink the bathwater.
Suck the dishcloth.
Scribble on the kitchen floor, walls, table if I am on the phone.

Chandra · 09/12/2005 12:16

Allow him to sleep -alone- in his own cot since the first week (and no good parent will believe that DS could move well under the blankets when he was I week old).

Oh, and I also used Gina Ford book (evil mum am I??)

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 09/12/2005 12:24

Not bother to get them dressed so they stay in their pyjamas all day.

DissLocated · 09/12/2005 12:38

Gave dd tinned beans and sausage for lunch yesterday. (not in her pram btw) She loved them.

sootyrupert · 09/12/2005 13:19

At six weeks dropped tin on dds head and knocked her out, few hours later in casualty she was fine!

izzybiz · 09/12/2005 14:48

wipe DDs nose on her own t-shirt?

mumtoone · 09/12/2005 14:48

I have done many of the things mentioned here such as
bottle fed
use a dummy
use reins
moved into own room at 6 weeks (far too noisy to sleep in our room any longer)
wean before 6 months
feed cold food straight from jar when away from home
let ds watch tv to give me some peace
Stopped sterilizing before 1 year
let him play whilst I have a lie in

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 09/12/2005 14:56

Just told dd to shut up!

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 09/12/2005 14:59

Errrr.....See everything below!!

Pagan · 09/12/2005 15:01

How refreshing it is to see that there are so many other mothers like me and also no-one has had a go and we're at almost 100 messages

Also used reins and the lead thing when DD was older; both in own cot in own room from about 5 weeks; never used a cosy toes even in the most inclement conditions, a blanket is good enough and they've not died of exposure yet; fed calpol to help sleep through the night whilst on holiday; have always left them to play unsupervised in other rooms but have had the good grace to keep the fire off and remove knives and pointy things from reach; have tied a knot in a plastic bag and given it to them to play with coz it makes a great noise ...

actually except any breast feeding things because I didn't.

I suppose thats another one to some people.

mummydear · 09/12/2005 15:33

Let them sleep in the car on the driveway way after all the shopping has been unloaded, had a cup of tea, read the paper, sometimes would just have my lunch in peace. If I really felt guilty I would sometimes pop the baby monitor in the car.

Have slept in the car with them aswell parked up somewhere.

Ask nursery/playgroup for an extra one off session as you have an 'urgent appointment' go back home and go back to bed.
