What do you do that 'perfect' parents would swoon at?

Go on admit it here. Following on from the 'do you sterilise' thread, I'm sure there are lots of things that parents do that would horrify others. Let's keep this a lighthearted thread and no having a go at anyone who shocks you ....

let DD watch whatever TV (Cbeebies, Nick Jnr) or DVDs she wants on the days she os not at nursery......

bath twice a week and as a result on the other nights.....

....she sometimes goes to bed not in her pyjamas but in the clothes she was wearing (trousers, top) but I do insist on teeth brushing twice a day

have choc as a mid-morning snack

dips her dummy in my tea

I also believe in healthy neglet parenting, teaches them to be independant and get on with stuff themselves!!

give my dd (9 months) ribeena in a bottle, let her sip jack daniels and coke, got drunk with her with me in a beer garden, let her eat macdonalds chips (no nuggets, we are veggie!) let her play with mobile phones, electrical wires, let her eat quavers in her pram, put a squirt of hairspray in her hair to keep a clip in cos it matched her outfit, let her watch pretty much unlimited tv, let her roll on the floor with my mums dogs, who also give her dog biscuits!! my list of 'bad' parenting is endless, im off to sit on the naughty step!!

Set a bad example by demonstrating my skill at burping on demand . DD loved it, but rather startled my DH who for some reason didn't know that was one of my talents (we've been together for 16 years). Also visit McDonalds, let them dip fingers in various types of alcohol. Don't realise I'm swearing, but DS (23 months) has taken to saying 'God's sake' occasionally, and I guess it's come from me. Plenty of others too.

wewishyouaClaryChristmas · 09/12/2005 00:21

oooh is the simpsons bad?
We watch before bathtime every night. Never knew it was frowned upon tho
generally too much TV I fear and finger of wine/beer too....

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 09/12/2005 02:44

No! simpsons is an education

Have encouraged dd to back-chat tyrannical old biddies that tell her off for nothing

Allowed her to put empty parking ticket on car parked outside my house - with nasty message in it - Driver a complete Cow you must understand!

admit to being drunk in charge of a 13yo

Oh and I diss her mates if I think they're dumb!

It was my DD who got me into South Park!

Have been very responsible since arrival of DS on the scene - but did allow myself odd glass of wine during pg.

bobbybob · 09/12/2005 05:27

Also do/done

McDonalds
Advent chocolate before breakfast
Used reins
Wiped ds's snotty nose on the inside bottom of his T shirt
Turned a pooey cloth nappy booster the other way as I didn't have another one
Asked ds to pick his own bogies out of his nose because he can't blow it
Cycled home from playcentre with him soaking wet on the grounds that he would dry out in the wind
Fed him all his purees cold from the fridge

beejay · 09/12/2005 08:23

Loving the fact that I am not in the slightest bit shocked by any of these admissions...

alLIOluia · 09/12/2005 08:25

Ha ha teavee, am deffo going to wipe snot on walls in future.

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 09/12/2005 08:34

i love this thread! Great to see I am not the only one! I have...
eaten peanuts while pg (snickers craving!}
bottlefed
co-sleep
give dummy
weaned before 6 months
use baby walker
stopped sterilising at 10 months
run out of formula and given 10 month old cows milk
fed straight from jars
let them drink squash
use reins
forgotten to feed them! {until sometime later when they are grumpy and i suddenly realise why!)
bath as and when needed
sometimes put ds1 to bed without story (esp if something good on telly!)
sit them in front of cbeebies so i can ccok, clean, surf MN or read mag! (last 2 more likely!}
let ds1 eat chicken dippers
let ds1 taste Daddy's cider
not give ds1 any lunch on wednesdays because i let my granny give him too many biscuits!(it makes her so happy!) AND SOO MANY MORE BESIDES!!! [WINK]

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 09/12/2005 08:38

all that and they are happy ,healthy and doing well! I would love to get up at my local mother and baby group and spout all this just too see the horrified faces!! HEHEHE!

GingerBearingGifts · 09/12/2005 08:39

Pramfast - what about Carfast? (sounds like an engine additive)

GingerBearingGifts · 09/12/2005 08:41

These days, carfast is a bread roll stuffed into her hand as I usher her out the dorr to cries of 'mummy, I am hungry'. Though she does have Nurseryfast later.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 09/12/2005 08:52

we call it Car Seat Picnic
by the end of the week you could feed the five thousand with what is left in the bottom of her car seat
(well Jesus could anyhow)

mumfor1sttime · 09/12/2005 08:58

Feeding cows milk to ds when he was 9 months

Putting ds infront of baby bright dvd all afternoon, so I can chill on the sofa

giving ds chips in McDonalds, and chicken nuggets

Not sterilising after 10 months old

forgetting change bag on a shopping trip, so not changing him for 5 hours

letting ds eat chocolate buttons and crisps at 11 months

leaving ds to play in his room at 11 months while I try and have a lay in

giving ds squash in a bottle in the pram

not always putting a vest on ds

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 09/12/2005 09:12

oh, and i dont buy organic food - too bloody expensive!

teabags · 09/12/2005 09:21

breastfed DS and swigged back an entire bottle of champagne (DH hardly got a look in) when we got home from the hospital. We all slept well that night

Mirage · 09/12/2005 09:25

Feeding dd2 with one habd whilst typing on MN with the other.
Weaning both dd's at 4 months & just giving them what we ate.
Not warming up bottles for either of them.
Letting dd1 eat sausage rolls in the street.
Cows milk for both girls before 1year old.
Stopped sterilizing before 6 months-no point if said baby is rolling around a grubby carpet.
Allow dd1 to go down to the farm & not wash her hands afterwards.
Let dd1 play upstairs whilst Iam downstairs.
Used reins on dd1.
Let dd1 watch cbeebies. When she was about 7 months old I decorated the hall stairs & landing one afternoon whilst she watched T.V.Fab!

lapsedrunner · 09/12/2005 10:59

All sounds pretty normal to me .

gingernutlover · 09/12/2005 11:35

Let dd sleep in her car seat at night when we had to drive her round to get her to sleep

Don't heat her milk (much to father in laws disgust)she likes it cold!

Let her cry it out to sleep during day - she hates naps - I go to garage and sort laundry, well it's quieter!

Not changing her when out shopping

Not taking off her coat when in shopping centre so as not to wake her

Let cat sleep in her playnest which is her xmas present - she hasn't even used it yet!

Gave her 3 months plus teats when she was 9 weeks

Gave her infacol against HV advice

Use disposable nappies on the day I want her to wear jeans and then show off about how eco freindly I am when she wears cloth the other days

Put her in her own room in cot at 6 weeks

NO BIB FOR DREeam feed and then let her wear milky sleeping bag for a few nights

Dh takes photos of her sitting on cat

Find cat hairs in her nappy and in between her fingers - wondering how long til she coughs up a fur ball.

Watch TV while feeding her, she likes to watch too - even wehn I was pg she used to react to BIg Brother Theme tune :-)

Refer to my mum as Nanny silly and my Dad and grampa Grumpy - we are starting ewarly so this becomes second nature to her, wondering if these area bit tame.

Plan to wean before 6 months

Plan to use reins when she walks

Plan to do all the other naughty things, mcdonalds, sweets etc

nowanearlyNicemum · 09/12/2005 11:39

me too!!

although, Epiffany, I have to ask HOW did you manage to do the breastfeeding while driving thing?????? I'm in awe

hercules · 09/12/2005 11:45
