APRIL PROCRATINATORS THREAD

winnybella · 16/03/2011 22:51

I thought I'll start this one as I am, without a doubt, the worst procratinator among you all (failed to submit the second tma on this course).

So...my next deadline is April 5th and it's on A Portrait of A Lady and A Woman in White.

How's everybody else getting on?

Even if you just submit some bullet points or something for you current TMA it is better than nothing, actually even if you skip it completely its not the end of the world just concentrate on the ECA. Good luck!

winnybella · 08/04/2011 20:45

Proles- just submit whatever-I did and got 2.1-and I started writing it 3 hrs before the deadline. You can do it. Just don't do what I have done and not submit- I've got 2 fat zeroes on my assignment scores table.

Right, back to Heart of Darkness.

proles, so glad to 'see' you, was wondering this morning on my way to work if you were okay, and thought i'd post a 'has anyone heard from?' this afternoon. Smile was going to suggest the ou support side too, so glad you have managed to get some things sorted. my supervisor says 'you can only do what you can do'. sometimes pragmatism and not perfectionism is ok. Grin

i'm in canada, winny. but still a student at a uk uni for various reasons Confused

and i've just finished my last day at work, so i'm a ft student again! yay! here starts the slog...

leothelioness · 11/04/2011 17:14

Wine for madwoman have you finished work yet?

I have an assignment due on wednesday I need to find it in the pile of paper on the dining table and the kids being on holiday for easter is not helping.

madwomanintheattic · 12/04/2011 04:52

oh yes. Grin thank you for Wine always appreciated!
mine aren't finished for easter yet - yay. it gives me the best part of two weeks to get organised, thank goodness!

thejoanwilder · 13/04/2011 04:07

Hi! Mind if I join. Just a month and a half shy of finishing year one of a BSc Earth Science course. Not a parent yet. DH and I hope to start ttc in about 2yrs. Which would mean if things go to plan we'll have our first as I am in my 4th and final year.
Anyways, despite not being a parent (yet) hope you'll still let me join in!
Handed in my final assignment of the year last week, now to study for exams. Will need some pretty epic motivation!

madwomanintheattic · 13/04/2011 04:13

i had dd1 in my final year Grin - writing up a dissertation one handed whilst bfing all night is my abiding memory. Grin

i'm done with all that childbirth jazz now though - and they are all at school - hooray!

welcome to the thread, anyway.

leothelioness · 13/04/2011 09:12

Welcome Joan I sat exams in my first year while 7 1/2 months pregnant my examiner was a young guy and looked scared to death I would go in to labour, it was just me and him as I was living abroad. Goodmluck with you exam prep.

ManateeEquineOhara · 13/04/2011 10:40

Hi all. I have 2 papers due at the beginning of May. I have been avoiding this month's procrastination thread as I thought I was doing so well...Ha.

One paper is a philosophy one, it is 4,500 words, I have done a load of reading and have loads of notes, but writing a philosophy essay is no fun.

The other is a 'literature review plus' so reviewing an area of literature in contemporary human geography that has been inspired by a book that is outside of the discipline. I am basing it on Donna Haraway's 'When Species Meet' because there is a lot of animal geographies work inspired by this. So I have just struggled through my reading of it, and now feel a bit like I want a rest :)

thejoanwilder · 14/04/2011 01:46

Madwoman- which uni? I am studying distance with Birkbeck, but am in the US at the moment.
Wow- lot of respect for everyone doing essay based subjects. Reminds me of A level english! yikes- don't think I could ever go back to that :)
Very reassured that people have had kids while studying. Makes me feel like it's at least doable!

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 02:01

surrey, joan. Grin

but i will confess to mahoosive avoidance tactics today. with more planned for tomorrow. Blush so far i have cleaned the bathroom, done the laundry, sorted the too small clothes for the charity shop, and spent an hour looking at real estate porn. oh, and planned to make a bucketful of marinara sauce first thing tomorrow (have loads of onions and garlic to use up).

why, why, why, why?!

it hasn't helped that i've had a list of kids med and dent appointments that i had deliberately booked for 'when i finished work'. or that i can see the blardy easter holidays looming on the horizon.

or that i've got SO much to do i am frankly terrified. but small chunks, small chunks. Blush

tomorrow (as well as the marinara) i will proof read my research diary and 1000 word methodology piece, and tidy it up to submit on friday.

i will, i will, i will.

someone bully me in the morning! (that's 3pm for you lot Wink - except joan)

does birkbeck do distance phd by the way?

thejoanwilder · 14/04/2011 04:38

Yes, it's funny that the only time I clean meticulously is when I have something important to do. Even DH can see right through me.
Birkbeck certainly does PhDs. Not sure which ones (if any) are distance). But my experience has been really positive with them so far.

If I get a chance before the rush to get to work, will definitely dish out a bit of bullying. But if I don't: GET ON WITH STUFF!

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 15:16

well.
well.
well.

so today we have 15 cms of snow and the school is closed because the winds are high, it's still snowing, and highway is too dangerous for the teachers to get in.

you couldn't make it up, really, could you? ffs.

but thank you for the bullying! i'm still going to see if i can do something with my research diary, but i feel like going back to bed in despair.

thejoanwilder · 16/04/2011 01:36

How did things go today, Mad? Hope the kids were in school and you managed to get some stuff done!
Snow gone? Where in Canadia are you that you're still getting snow- I'm amazed at that! Spring is finally sprunging here (and about time too..!)

MrsShrekTheThird · 16/04/2011 01:39

hello all
thought I'd procrastinate here instead post on the 'new'[ish] thread.
Particularly as I had a lovely evening to do lots of work in and have done absolutely bugger all. Tutorial in the morning. Five chapters to read. Oops.
Good to hear I'm not the only one :)

southern alberta, joan. it's currently snowing in that 'icing sugar' sort of way in the rockies. v picturesque. Grin in true work avoidance stylee it's so perfect that we're going to take the family to the hot springs and soak for an hour. Blush

i did manage to get a bit done - not as much as i'd hoped tbh. but got a lot of reading done for the next bit as well. (the problem with setting your own goalposts is that you can move them as the whim takes you...) i think i'm going to have to actually set myself a timetable in print, and stick to it. ish.

proles, good to know you are fighting your way back slowly. i still feel like i'm wading through treacle - just not used my brain for way too long! must be worse in your situation. i tried to reread a bit of goffman yesterday and was in danger of falling asleep - not because it was boring but it was tiring me out! x

what are you reading mrss?

thejoanwilder · 16/04/2011 20:06

Ahhh, I was planning to revise while DH and chums watch the Barcelona game. But there's a fridge full of beer, and, and, and...
I guess 1 can would be fine. Then I might be able to get through a Geology topic or two more easily, right...!?

madwomanintheattic · 17/04/2011 04:00

geology? you need to be here, my lovely. Wink

madwomanintheattic · 17/04/2011 04:00

you could have revised from the pool... Grin

thejoanwilder · 17/04/2011 16:02

The pool? I'll be right up ;) No, wait... I'll be there because of the amazing Canadian geology... yeah... that's it...!
I had hoped to spend some nice sunny time on the deck with my books. But it pished down all of yesterday. Bah.
