They EASY thing sounds like common sense really but it took reading the book and writing things down to realise it - it helped me get to know his rhythms
Basically its an acronym
E - Eat
A - Activity
S - Sleep
Y - You time
Your day and night follow the pattern one after another - this is benefical as you always have activity (which can be as simple as nappy change or talking - basically anything you do while they are awake!) before sleep they wont develop attachments to feeding to sleep.
So for example Harveys days have been going something like this :
E - 8am
A - 8.30 am Getting washed and dressed and kick on mat
S - 9.30am Down for a nap
Y - Getting on with housework/breakfast
E - 11am
A - 11.30 am
S - 12.30
Y - Lunch and chill out
E - 2pm
A - 2.30pm
S ETC ETC
None of this is rigid and has emerged from seeing that he goes 3 hours between feeds and by feeding him when he wakes up then spending time playing with him - when he starts to fret I can see by the EASY thing that rather than feed him again he needs to go down to sleep - it has worked really well for me.
The night time sleep has improved too - she recommends cluster feeding at night to help tank them up ready for the night so to feed 2 hourly from early evening onwards.
Another thing she advocates is a dream feed where about 10-11pm you feed the baby while asleep to get some calories in to stretch them til morning. Thats the idea anyway!
There are various other things in the book like a useful guide to recognising different crys and body language to work out what was wrong - before I read it I was shoving a boob in Harveys mouth at every opportunity or sign of a cry and he ended up "snacking"
God, Ive gone on alot here havent I and not made much sense!
