How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

Vaunda, I wasn't talking about him, I was talking about your boundaries. Are you happy with where they are?

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 11:43

and how on earth do you know exactly how many David's there are in the school???

I guess your mum could have told you? But it seems like a strange question to ask her "Oh mum how many David'sin the school!"?

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 11:44

what a strange generalisation (sp - see it's not just the booze that make my spelling bad LOL). To say that you don't get on with people your age?

QoQ i have been around the school for 23 yrs. I spend the holidays going from one class to another helping the teachers set up for the new terms so i get to know which child is in which class.

Fio2 · 12/09/2005 11:50

hahahahahahah only just seen this comment

"Fio, you are showing you sad immaturity witht hat pathetic comment"

think i know about developmental disabilities than you vaunda, certainly enough to know not to refer to children as having mental disabilities

codsicle · 12/09/2005 12:05

is htis still going on?

wheres the tumble weed

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 12:08

thanks for your CAT vaunda. Fair enough! Hope to see you at the meetup then.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:09

Marslady your welcome. I did look for your david today but it seems he wasn't in school today.

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 12:13

vaunda... I've just read your post of earlier...

He picks his friends by the people HE likes to spend time with. At least he is not picking the bullies, and yobs. and trust me there are a few of them in schools as we all know. In fact a posters relative is quite a spiteful child but hey thats the way the cookie crumbles.

I do hope that that isn't about my nephew who you don't know from Adam. That kind of accusation is almost enough to get me on the train to Camberwell! I'm rather astonished that you would say that without me being here to defend him. I can tell you that that is not one of my nephews traits. I've already told you he is far too interested in football to care about anything (or anyone) else.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:15

Mars if you care to read on you will see i state it is not your nephew. and i did ask where he plays football as in ST John The divine football is banned during playtimes.

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 12:18

you insinuated yesterday that my motives for asking my nephew to look out for your son were nasty. I have no wish to tell you anything else about my nephew, sister or self. You strike me as the sort that would turn vindictive and nasty.

Best I stay away from you cos no one needs that kind of nonsense in their lives.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:19

I also asked how davids sister was after her nasty incident in school with the boards electric cable.

harpsichordcarrier · 12/09/2005 12:19

ladies - she is happy with her boundaries. 939! posts have not changed her mind.
move along now.
nothing to see here.....

but really no sweets or fizzy drinks! now that is serious. give the kid a break, esp as you seem fond of maltesers yourself

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:21

I never turn vindictive or nasty but you decided not to read all the posts and assumed i was talking about your nephew. Then told me it was enough to make you get a train to camberwell, well bring it on baby

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:24

Harps, i rarely eat chocolate as it gives me migraines, he has never been allowed fizzy drinks and only ever had sweets once a fortnight or at kids parties.

aloha · 12/09/2005 12:27

I think David is a pretty rare name now (I like it though). I don't know any young children called David. I wouldn't be surprised to find there were only a handful in an inner London school.

Cam · 12/09/2005 12:28

Vaunda seems to like the sound of her own voice - its all rather repetitive

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 12:29

but it is a generalisation to say you don't get on with any people your own age.

How old are you if you've been around the school for 23yrs?????

I have a good friend (she's the church warden actually ) who's also a LSA at the school next door (180 pupils) and despite the fact she's been there for 6/7yrs she doesn't know all the children, and the exact number of David, Tom's, Dick's or Harry's

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 12:31

I am 30, I spend a lot of time at the school mum has worked there for 23 yrs. and you do over a period of time learn the kids names and who is who etc.

ghosty · 12/09/2005 12:32

Just get this thread to 1000 posts and we can all give Vaunda a round of applause for her patience and ability to stick with something like a dog with a bone.
And then let's stop shall we? I just can't stand it anymore
...........
AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh
[ghosty runs of screaming hysterically]

Enid · 12/09/2005 12:32

you let him watch Harry Potter when he was 3

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 12:33

LOL Ghosty - it's nearly as long as my "leaving the baby sleeping in his cot one"
