How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:52

there you go you can see me, my son, my dh, my dad and mum.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:57

Steffe, i didn't need to tell him as yesterday he was sitting with me and saw the comments made... and no he wasn't upset by them, he found them quite tedious and pathetic.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:58

Jimjams, I only used the word mental because i didn't want to spend too much time typing all the names out.

Mud · 12/09/2005 10:58

if this is for real i beg you to start acting like a real parent with a real child because thee is no doubnt in my mind that if this if for real you are damanaging the kid by treating himlike an adult

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 10:58

what - he was sat with you at gone midnight! When he had to be at school this morning

steffee · 12/09/2005 11:00

So you've brought your son up to find other people's opinions tedious and pathetic?

zippitippitoes · 12/09/2005 11:00

Outreach

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 11:00

Qoq, i said he was with me yesterday.... i was on here in the morning and he was asleep at 9.30pm last night which is his usual bedtime.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 11:01

No Steffe, I have brought him up to have his own opinion on people. which he does. He found the constant insults, accusations and darn right nastiness pathetic and tedious.

Enid · 12/09/2005 11:01

well I do think its weird that you let him read this Vaunda

poor little boy, no wonder he is confused about his role in life - to be a helper and grown up rather than a friend.

btw Who is that weird guy with the black bob?

zippitippitoes · 12/09/2005 11:02

Vaunda did mention that he went to bed early after palying at the aprk and she was left with his dad to chat to..or not

I think that this thread is getting a tad polarised

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 11:03

Enid, the guy with the bob, is a man dressed as professor snape in canary wharf on the day the 6th Harry Potter book was released. They had a Harry Potter fun day.

Lonelymum · 12/09/2005 11:03

Whoa Vaunda! That Snape guy is a bit scarey - I assume it is supposed to be Snape and I haven't put my foot in it and said something rude about your dh because that was not intended.

Lonelymum · 12/09/2005 11:04

oops posts crossed I hope Alan Rickman contines to take the role in the films: that guy would scare me!

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 11:04

Enid why shouldn't he read about what people think? He may be a child but he is entitled to see what people who don't know him think about him and his mum. He is capable of forming his own opinions as are we all. He was sitting with me as he normally does.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 11:05

Lonelymum lol no DH was there though but not dressed up. Karl had a great day and so did we.

Lonelymum · 12/09/2005 11:08

Also, love that picture of you leaning against the wall. Good photograph.
