How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

I was suspicious early on but, as I limit the sections I visit, thought I'd missed Vaunda before. Maybe I have? Even in the Urban Peoples' Republic of Camden there are small single year schools!

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:17

blimey - not that small - that's average size in our little town!

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:17

QoQ i got them from a friend who has a daughter OHHHH shock Horror.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:17

severely (non-verbal) autistic Do you thnk the Royal Ballet School would have him?

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:18

QoQ, i never said he went to a small school, someone else did i said it was a church school.

jayzmummy · 11/09/2005 23:18

Those eyes are adorable.

Davros · 11/09/2005 23:18

God, he's grown up since the last picture I saw... and handsome too! I reckon its Cod pulling our plonkers as the typing went haywire, except I'm sure she's got other fish to fry!

soapbox · 11/09/2005 23:20

Jimjams - gosh hasn't he grown up!

Still gorgeous though

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:20

shame that with most pupils 'excelling' in Maths he's not one of them - awww.

Funny also - for a school that's so good at Ballet - it doesn't mention anything about it in the Ofsted report??

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:21

here's their phone number who is going to ring up in the morning

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:21

aww - what a lovely boy JJ - I don't think I'd seen a picture of him before

tamum · 11/09/2005 23:22

I'm sorry but this thread is such a classic. I went from not believing a word to being seriously worried about this poor kid and then just about crying with laughter by the time I reached the bit about the RBS.

ScummyMummy · 11/09/2005 23:22

Gorgeous gorgeous, gorgeous. (Your son, jj)

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:22

That's in my patch - very highly performing too. I'm sure that it is mainly black children, although I bet it's got a very long waiting list and a certain amount of catchment area jumping. In general Southwark school are very bad.

tamum · 11/09/2005 23:23

And I've said it before but I'll say it again, gorgeous ds1, Jimjams.

Caligula · 11/09/2005 23:23

I am aching with laughter at this thread.

It is so funny. We're all so polite.

ScummyMummy · 11/09/2005 23:24

Horrible building though!

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:24

Actually I work with a bit with the education department, and I could ask if you really want. I just think either Vaunda has got very mixed up here, or the whole thing is a major wind up.

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:24

ah but Nooka do the RBS come and opffer honorary 'places for life' to three children every year?

Flights of fancy..................

Tortington · 11/09/2005 23:25

god this is like a fox hunt

soapbox · 11/09/2005 23:26

Nooka that would be wonderful

You can easily check it out - the staff have seen her scan pictures, Karl in in Y3 there and his granny has worked at the school for 23 years and the Royal Ballet are soon to visit.

Reckon you could get some closure for all of us

Gomez · 11/09/2005 23:26

Utterly bonkers. Not sure if a real tripp-trapp thou' but more someone who inhabits a different cosmos than the rest of us...

JJ - your boy is so handsome and auti or not those eyes are beautiful!
