How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

Vaunda - that means that they take the method of training to dance teachers and student teachers - not pupils!

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:08

Judge flounce.

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:08

Jimjams,
If you say so. Still as a parents in my sons school i think i would know more about it than you surely.
Disabilites can come in many forms physical, educational, mental...... just because someone doesn't look disabled doesn't mean they aren't does it.

I wonder what Vaunda's son has been doing while she's been spending all this time on Mumsnet...

I can't believe this thread - some people must have a lot of time on their hands!!!

soapbox · 11/09/2005 23:10

Jayzmummy - yep but they are auditions for 11 year olds at the youngest

Fio2 · 11/09/2005 23:10

mental well if you will describe yourself

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:10

Jampots in his class yes he is. in actual fact there are only 2 white members of the entire class one of them Karl and the other is a member of staff.
if you care to wait a few weeks i will see if i can get a copy of last yrs class photo and scan it into the pc and send you it.

Davros · 11/09/2005 23:11

Thanks for that insight into disabilities Vaunda, Jimjams didn't realise that
Why not enter karl for the X Factor? Give me a laugh anyway.

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:11

so he's too young for those audtions then?

Mid Assocaites is 11-13
Senior - 14-15......

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:11

yes but they don't mention visiting schoold making foolhardy offers.

They wouldn't offer lifetime places, in any case. Competition is very strong in White Lodge just to remain at the school, and by no means every student is subsequently offered a place in the company.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:12

OK 99, 100. WTF?????

soapbox · 11/09/2005 23:12

Vaunda we've been here before - the reality is that you could be scanning in any class photo from any class in the UK

Why not short circuit it all by giving us a link to the school website - afterall almost all London schools have them now

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:12

Fio, you are showing you sad immaturity witht hat pathetic comment.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:12

no I didn;t realise that kids who don;t look disabled could be disabled. God that is such news to me.

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:12

LJ's mum - probably watching TV, playing with his Kareoke machine, one of his 2 drum machines, play station, or reading his book on Terrorism

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:13

Judge flounce i reckon.

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:13

Ah, I had the impression he was at a village school. As you said his granny knows everyone, and all the teachers having seen his scans. London has plenty of small schools - I know some single form entry infants in my borough. Is this school especially famous for feeding into the royal ballet school, with three guaranteed places a year? Sounds very odd indeed. I had a friend who went there when I was a little girl. She had to go for a number of interviews and tests before she was accepted - and she was exeptional, achieving distinctions in all the exams (in a class of which I was at the bottom!)

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:14

now Jimjams - take another deep breath and has a glass of wine.

If I was fuming reading that comment gawd knows what you were like!

And I'm sure the school must have a website, even our little church school next door has a website (which I haven't visited yet )

annh · 11/09/2005 23:14

Well, I was reluctantly prepared to give this thread the benefit of the doubt until the Royal Ballet School came into the equation and then it lost all credibility!

jampots · 11/09/2005 23:14

i hope so - i really liked JF

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:14

wonder where she's got the girls clothes from that she's selling too???
