How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

sorry jimjams, i meant to add that the school are now pushing the performing arts more

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:00

lol Jimjams - I think with this sort of afternoon routine - and all those toys, and swimming, and homework don't think he'd have much time for practicing his ballet to the level required for the RBS.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:00

OK - will do - many thanks- I am intrigued.

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:00

its not she said it weas a small church school with three disabled kids in each class. So why on earth do the Royal ballet school go there?

Or do they?

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:01

Soapbox he is not fantastic at everything, have never said he was in fact i never said he was fantastic at all. He is in comparison to litracey and science crap at maths but thats fine because he has in the 6 weeks holiday progressed a lot in math.

In our eyes as parents all of our kids are fantastic

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:02

god the thought of ds1 (disabled kid) auditioning for the RBS- they wouldn't know what had hit them.

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:02

and it's also her fault that he thinks he's an adult (12.17)

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 23:02

FFS, dh is insisting I go to bed

Back to check on you lot in the morning

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:02

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:03

QoQ i didnt say he was in it i said he will along with all the other children from yr3 to yr 6 be auditioned and i also said he wants it bad. which he as a person in his own right is entitled to.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:03

Is Vaunda Judge Flounce?

jampots · 11/09/2005 23:03

Royal Ballet School

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:03

WWW, never said it was a small church school i said it was a church school. No school in london is small

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:05

QoQ of course it is and that has all been covered earlier thanks. I had no choice in what was going on and so he had to grow up.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:05

They don;t have church school with disabled kids in their list of audition sites. This is a wind up.

Fio2 · 11/09/2005 23:05

vaunda rides a minature pit pony from what i remember, bless her

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:06

apologies- still, i wasn't aware that the RBS did roving auditions. They chareg a £25 fee according to their website, so are the roving ones free?

Davros · 11/09/2005 23:06

Eh? No school in London is small???? Of course there are small schools in London.

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:06

just a quote from RSB page...

The Department continues its work on the Outreach Programme, taking The Royal Ballet School?s System of Training to teachers and students across the UK and throughout the world.

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:07

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:07
