Hellooooooo!

Lovely thanks.
It poured with rain though. The kids all got on really well while we I got slightly drunk. I am not a great hostess.

Good time Lyra? Back safe and well?

I'm back and I'm absolutely exhausted
But it was worth it, the gig was indescribably good. Amazing, magnificent, awesome, there aren't enough words to describe it.
On Saturday morning I was really nervous and was thinking 'I could just not go' but I knew the things that make you nervous are often the things most worth doing.
So I got the Eurostar to Paris, navigated the underground and found the hotel, which was right by the stadium, dumped my stuff and met my roommate, who was very nice, then headed to the venue to sell my spare ticket. An hour and a half later and two support bands missed , I finally got rid of it and headed inside in time to hear Kasabian play their supporting set. They were excellent but the singer's mic was dodgy and we could hardly hear him.
Then about half an hour later (9.15 French time) Muse came on and put on the show of their lives. They were on fire. We got an incredible setlist, including some songs they haven't played in ages. At one point I was welling up, singing along to a song with 80,000 other voices, 80,000 pairs of arms in the air swaying along. You can't imagine the feeling and the atmosphere in that crowd.
During one of the slower acoustic songs everyone got out their mobile phones and lighters and it looked absolutely amazing from where I was.
I was near the front for the first few songs but it was all a bit of a crush and I couldn't see much even on tiptoes, so I moved towards the back of the Golden Lawn (the front standing area) where there was lots of space to jump around and dance and I had a perfect view.
The lights and visuals were amazing and during the second to last song they released these enormous confetti-filled balloons into the crowd, which was huge fun trying to pop them and getting showered in confetti.
During one orchestral song there was a big UFO thing that floated above the crowd with a dancer hanging from it doing an aerial acrobatics display. Matt (the singer) wore a light-up LED suit for one of the encores, which was hilarious, and there was a moving platform with a light-up drum kit on it which they all got on for a couple of songs and it moved out and upwards into the audience.
It was over way too quickly (they played for just over two hours) and I was exhausted. One the way back to the hotel there was still a great atmosphere, all the bars and food stalls playing Muse songs full blast. It was Muse heaven
I got to bed around 2am after chatting for ages with my roommate and the next morning headed out for a wander around Gay Paree. I had lunch by the Seine, wandered around the Cathedrale Notre Dame, walked down to the Eiffel Tower where i lay on the grass in the sunshine with my iPod on looking at the tower, went for another wander, back to the Latin Quarter for dinner and a glass of vin blanc and then to the Eurostar for the trip home. Arrived home about 11.30pm.
Such a great, fantastic weekend. It was nice to break out of my little corner of London and feel alive, having a mini adventure. Paris is a truly great city and Muse are the best live band in the world.

(sorry for the essay )

Berrie · 14/06/2010 15:34

Lordy Lyra, that must be your longest post ever on here!
I'm so glad that you had a fantastic time. I am very impressed that you went on that adventure alone. I am not sure that I could do it.
Are you still looking forward to seeing them again? Could it ever be as good?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 14/06/2010 15:41

Well, right now I don't believe anything could top it but I'm going to the two Wembley Stadium dates in September so we'll see if the boys can pull anything more special out of the bag. It will be the same show again, but probably with a few different songs played each night, plus different support bands. Lily Allen is supporting on the Friday, oddly enough.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/06/2010 15:43

And yes you could do it Berrie if the pull was strong enough, some show you really really wanted to see.
It was nerve wracking at first but I feel proud of myself for having done it and the reward was well worth it. Who knows, I might do it again when I've got the money. If I was rich enough I'd go to all the European shows this summer.

Berrie · 14/06/2010 18:22

Surely it would have to get dull at some point? Yawn...here come the UFO again....

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 14/06/2010 18:36

Dull? Never. You blaspheme.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/06/2010 20:22

I was obv joking about blaspheming
But seriously, I think there's enough time between now and Wembley for it to be magical all over again.
I just had a thought - there's not much difference between going to paris for a gig and Oggs travelling to London to see Joseph with us. Can't be much difference in distance or cost.

Anyway, I'll shut up about it now. What have y'all been up to while I've been away?

ghostofoggs · 15/06/2010 07:42

Hee!

Soooo glad you had a fantastic time Lyra

You're right - flying down to meet you all in London, navigating the tube etc on my own was a HUGE adventure for little old backwoodsy me , but it was something I really wanted to do, and at least I didn't have the language problem (plus I lived in Mornington Crescent for a while when I was 18 doing voluntary work so had been there on my own before)

How is your french? I did french to O level (started Spanish A level but left college after a year so didn't get it) but I haven't spoken it for eons.

What did you eat?

Will you keep in touch with the girl you shared your room with?
I like Kasabian... shame he wasn't miked up properly.

I spent the weekend being savaged by midges, knitting and the usual housework etc.
B.O.R.I.N.G. compared to your adventure.

Berrie · 15/06/2010 07:43

Nothing too exciting unfortunately.

It's ironing day today
I'm thinking of walking ds to school this morning for the first time in ages. I gave up because of the pain it caused after but I think I need to push myself a bit.
I've got a meeting at 10. I need to buy ds something nice for his packed lunch tomorrow - he is going on a trip.

OP posts:
ghostofoggs · 15/06/2010 07:45

I bet price wise it was somewhat similar too

Berrie · 15/06/2010 09:31

Didn't walk
Didn't get ds anything nice either - everything full of shit. Might make some muffins tomorrow morning.

Answers:
No I don't speak much French. I said 'Parlez vous Anglais?' a lot Most people spoke at least a bit of English so it was fine.
For lunch I had a Croque Monsieur with salad and for dinner a steak with pepper sauce and pommes frites.
The woman I shared with (she was much older than me and had travelled all over Europe following Muse around) is on the board so I'll probably speak to her there. The older Musers have London meet-ups quite regularly so I'll no doubt go along to one of those sometime and see her there.
Price was I imagine very similar to your London trip. £89 for the Eurostar, £20 for my share of the hotel room (which was very, very basic but cheap and very close to the venue), £50 for the ticket, a bit of spending money for food and drink and RER (train) fares.

Today I have to go into town and buy party invitations and other bits and pieces. DS2's birthday party is on Sunday so lots of organising to do. Other than that I shall be clearing the housework backlog that comes from leaving DP and the children on their own all weekend. There were still dishes in the sink from Saturday lunchtime when I got back on Sunday night .

Berrie · 15/06/2010 09:50

Do you have a party theme?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2010 10:39

No, not really. I haven't really put much effort in this year. Last year he had 20 children and a huge bouncy castle in the garden. This year will be a bit lower key.

Berrie · 15/06/2010 11:14

Still stressful though I bet.

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2010 14:30

A little bit. He wants a Pinata and I keep forgetting to order one. I have the invitations, now just got to write them out before school pick-up

Berrie · 15/06/2010 15:36

What is a pinata? Oh is it one of those things that you hit?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2010 18:31

Yes, a brightly coloured cardboard/paper mache donkey full of sweets and toys. The children take turns to hit it till it splits and they all have a mad scramble for the goodies. One of his friends had one at their party last year and he's wanted one ever since.

Berrie · 16/06/2010 07:41

As if having several children at your house full of party food wasn't bad enough.

Do either of you have any book recommendations á la the Mortal Instuments series????
I've just finished them and really enjoyed them. I so knew he wasn't going to turn out to be her brother I'd love a spin off about Alec and Magnus.

LyraSilvertongue · 17/06/2010 12:12

You took your time. You're about a year behind the rest of us
I'd love another series like that but haven't come across one yet.
Now, if you want a recommendation for an excellent thriller, anything by Harlan Coben. He's one of my favourite writers and his books are always real page turners. The Woods is a good one to start with if you haven't read any.

Berrie · 17/06/2010 14:24

I've nothing I'm afraid.

My keys are locked in the car today Dh has gone to Dorset - Devon? One of the two.
Had a stay at home day sleeping ironing and hoovering.

Arses. Feeling peed off about being fat today. My forced walk up to school filled me with good intentions...until I found the chocolate in the cupboard. Can't go on a diet with bloody chocolate in the cupboard can I!?

Morning

Watched last weeks Doctor Who last night. Enjoyed it, but it didn't seem right having a naked Doctor
Penultimate one tonight. I'm going to wait until after next week's final and then watch them together I think.

Really enjoying Fringe still. We're on to the 2nd series now. Is there a 3rd?

Feeling any better today Berrie? I've got myself some Slimfast and am occasionally having one of those instead of a meal. Other than that I'm concentrating on eating better in general, but not beating myself up if I slip up.
I've accepted that I'm a binge eater and am trying to work on that. I'm allowing myself stuff but am stopping at one rather than than the whole packet/3 bags of crisps at once etc.

Feeling quite good today. In the mood for getting stuck into the mountain of washing etc.

Ready for tomorrow Lyra?

Berrie · 19/06/2010 13:46

Hello
No third series. We watched the last a few weeks ago and are bereft!
Dr Who was better last week. But he wasn't very Dr Whoish. I suppose it has to be different but it's all over the place at the moment.
