DamonBradleylovesPippi · 05/10/2009 14:13

Gio let us know. glad he likes it now.

don't remember asking for brodo... must have been one of those stepford moment. I am glad I did though for I have met you all lovely friends.

Franca, Only You not a masterpiece by any standards but a great movie to watch with best friend when 21 and single. Have not watched it since and still rememeber it fondly. I always ask DF whether she has met her DB yet and I called her a week after meeting dh saying "I have met my DB"!

Did not like Girella although DBs loved them. Loved crostatina al cioccolato and FONZIES!!! (Brought a big pack bag as the dds loved them too). Why don't they exist here in crispland I don't know.

TheMysticMasseuse · 05/10/2009 14:17

polmonite omg Rosa i really hope she gets better son.

fonzies.... i still eat them in the summer but i have to hide them from dds as i am sure they are made of toxic waste, it is literally my guilty pleasure!

the author is VS Naipaul, the book being the Mystic Masseur, although I much prefer his non fiction stuff- which despite being a bit dated by now is still incredibly powerful. I thoroughly detest his politics though.

well dh just left and i have officially started my mon-fri single mum act and of course it rains so no park etc. and no one to play with. and dd2 is teething. and dd1 refusing to nap (btw what do you do with children once they stop napping?)

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 14:29

Yes, I used to miss fonzies in crispland too. Also because I don't actually like crisps !!

If I remember well you asked what food to give to a sick child. I think I even mentioned my mother's riso patate e prezzemolo a staple malati food in my family.

Masseuse oh no! Great sympathy from me... what to do when they stop napping? I upped the hrs at nursery . But as you know I'm an evil mother...
Seriously though, dd stopped napping at 2 and a half, that's when ds started reception. So we had lunch and then she was allowed watching a bit of tv. Then we went to pick ds up and after merenda they used to play together...

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 14:31

(sympathy for being alone during the week, obviously). Have to dash and pick the dc... ciao!

Camomilla · 05/10/2009 15:07

oh, poor minirosa, hope the disguise thing works, with ds force was the only thing....

MM, know how you feel, hate doing the ft mum on my own, especially the bath/bed time routine, but at least now it's only on 2 nights. DS only stopped napping when I had to live him in pre-school 3 days a week, before that I still put him down for a couple of hours on the 3 days he wasn't going to school (though he did occasionally fall asleed on the play bed at school). And he I stll try to send him for a quick nap after lunch at weekends if we're home (doesn't always sleep, but sometimes he can sleep for 2-3 hrs). DD on the other had, well, don't know, it's a guessing game now that she's 13 months, so not sure what will happen as she grows!

franca, just men being incopetent at dressing children while I'm running late for eye apt, fixing the b*y car roof so DD doesn't get soaked every time it rains, and then row starting because of my nagging of course (which I wouldn't if things were done properly and not always "one day"), but hey, never mind. bad back and that time of the month not helping either (though NOT the cause of my nagging I haste to add).

right, need to try and empty a memory stick to add some pics of DS al mare for his "show and tell" tomorrow at school... and he also needs to write a poem ( in Y1!!!) about Autumn/harvest/food/giving! shoot me now! oh, and his "best friend" (one of the brats) taught him to say "I'll kick you in the nuts" - another to add to the list

Camomilla · 05/10/2009 15:08

great news gio!!

minervaitalica · 05/10/2009 15:09

Franca, you do not like crisps? How did you survive in the UK - I thought they banned non-crisps eaters.

MiniMin (Miniminerva is too long ) has also gone down with a cold and a cough, so there is obviously something in the air, but polmonite???? I hope your ASL gets their antibiotics in gear, Rosa - I take it they do not have a paediatric A&E anywhere in Ve?

MM - can sympathize with thee re: not napping - DD is just a pain when she refuses to sleep.

Bucharest · 05/10/2009 15:17

Afternoon all,
Hope all the poorly people are feeling better soon, and all the non-sleepers are getting some zzzzzz's.

I saw the slow cooker pasta thread but have been eagerly watching the troll ones over the last day or so...... (though I shouldn't)

I like fonzies too. Disgustingly delicious though they are.....

My friend (she with the anxiety issues over school) ran up to me in the playground on Saturday to tell me she'd found a shop which still had some amuchina for sale if I wanted some.....(never bought any yet, not about to start now....)

Gio- how funny that ds loves the maestra! Let us know how meeting goes!

Did Brangelina morph into someone else btw? I get confused on here sometimes [old lady emoticon] with the name changes. Mine, incidentally is because I opened the book I was reading and Bucharest was the first word I lighted upon.....(not because I am in fact Romina Power.......)

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 05/10/2009 15:32

bucharest did you not wash everything with amuchina when pg?

Bucharest · 05/10/2009 15:38

Moi? Do I sound like the kind of girl who washes a very great deal at all?????

I remember my SIL telling me I had to wash all my fruit and veg in it when I was pg.....

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 05/10/2009 15:40

No you didn't, thank god !

Yup was told so everytime I went to italy when pg. Did not even know what they were talking about and for ages I thought it was Muchina .

Rosa · 05/10/2009 19:34

Sorry Camo I did laugh about the kick in the nuts bit !!!
I don't like Fonzies ( or any cheese flavour things) Uk or otherwise . Mind you they did BBQ or some funny flavour that dh found in a supermarket and they were yummy I was Pg at the time !! I do like cheese and 'toast' cheese as well !
MInerva we don't have a paed A&E just A&E normal and the guardia medica did say that there were paediatric docs on duty obviously if the need arose. We do have a very good Drop in clinic on weekends and in the week all the docs are on teh end of the phone you phone a central number and get diverted to the doc on duty it runs from 9-7 daily. But seeing as ASL had taken all the docs in Ve to this course they haddn't thought to put 1 doc even on the end of the phone or even divert to Mestre ....Anyway after a 39.5 she had a Nuroflex and we are still under the 6 hrs there but she had a good dinner ...Plus I bought a very noisy ( and expensive)Chicco book when I went to get more meds which she loved !
Veg I bought / buy on the stalls here I do wash in bicarb- Simply as if you see some of the places where the fruit and veg is stored overnight here you would as well. SOme places have fridges but who knows what other creatures get in the stores as well! Here ther also are hot on testing for toxoplasma when pg - when I asked for that one in the Uk they thought I was bonkers ! Our streets and drains are literally full of sh*t....
Gio how did the meeting go did you get the long winded sheet from the helath department about hand washing I got mine and I am so excited !

Sputnik · 05/10/2009 20:00

Well at least the swine flu thing has woken them up to handwashing. At DD's materna they washed hands after the toilet and that was it. Not even before lunch. Hardly surprising she was off 1/3 of the year.

Rosa sounds like mini rosa is a little better, if she's eating well that's good.

Sputnik · 05/10/2009 20:07

Both the paeds I had gave us their cellulare, you could call them whenever. Would be unthinkable in the UK. One of the things I really like about Italy (going back to convo of several days ago). Also, after all our talk of stroppy officials the other day DHs brother went to do the giuramento for his Italian citizenship and they were really nice to him, despite the fact he has severe problems and can barely communicate.

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 20:10

They are incompetent at dressing children, aren't they Camo. Dh still ignores where some items of clothing are kept . Luckily the children get dressed by themselves nowadays...

Minerva, no, I don't like crisps, apart from fonzies (and dixi) and tortilla chips. The moment I got found out, I was packed back to Italy...... bloody nanny state... (I've always wanted to use the expression nanny state... )

I used to wash vegetables in Amuchina when I was pg with ds, in a huge bout of PFB... didn't do it with dd. I had to beg the UK midwife to test for toxoplasmosis as one week before discovering I was pg I had gone to a wedding in Parma and eaten kilos of prosciutto and salame ..

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 20:11

Sput nice to hear the officials were nice to your bil

TheMysticMasseuse · 05/10/2009 20:15

lol at La Muchina (that's also what i thought it was called). i think with dd1 i did an half-ass attempt at washing salad with bicarbonato, but with dd2 i didn't even bother... once i even forgot i was pregnant and had sushi for lunch . she seems ok so far.

btw i have a quesiton i am too ashamed to put on the greater MN- what's teh verdict on children weeing in the steret? Dd1 is now always claiming she has to make pipi when we are in the middle of the street. i suspect she quite likes farla dietro un albero. but i am dreading being shouted at by some smug Mnetter in disguise... what d'y'all do (sorry i am on a Wire overdrive and keep talking/thinking with a faux baltimore accent )

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 20:22

lol at the wire overdrive...

That's a hard one. I'm ok with small children weeing in the street... after all la pipi' dei bambini e' tutta santa... so it def doesn't bother me.

You need to be discreet and wear fake moustache...

Camomilla · 05/10/2009 21:01

MM, if ds doesn't find a decent toilet, he'll hold it in really, only needed it twice at the park, once a couple of years ago whilst playing football with DP and just did it there and then, in his pants, another time by the tree as the toilets at the park are bleurgh

Rosa, don't get me worng, I did laugh inside, but but there's something every day = "for real" every other word, yeah man, etc etc. the other day he stopped short at shh as he saw the look on my face... all things he only hears at school (DP let a "naughty word" slip once, and that was more than enough!)

I remember my friends back home talking about the toxoplasmosis test, very of it, especially when mum was preparing carpaccio...

Sputnik · 05/10/2009 21:06

Did you just make that up Franca?
I am lucky that DD has a strong bladder and the problem has never arisen. Plus there's always a bar handy here, with an, albeit usually filthy, bathroom.

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 21:11

The tutta santa? ... possibly, I don't know, me and some friends of mine belive it is...

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 21:11

believe, obviously.

Camomilla · 05/10/2009 21:14

no, no, sputnik, it's well known about pipi being santa

francaghostohollywood · 05/10/2009 21:19

So, it not just us... thank goodness !

Sputnik · 05/10/2009 21:28

We should put this question to the wider MN. I am sure in UK you would be scowled at by legions of gumpy old farts.
