Gio I second the ebay xmas pressie. However if you have ideas already I'd try getting them now as even on ebay prices go up closer to xmas.

Btw I was going to sell this Train Set which has only be used ONCE on last Xmas day and never again (don't ask - DH's last minute 'feel guilty I haven't done anything even though for once I didn't have to do anything' present ). If any of you want it at very discounted rate let me know. Will check price on amazon.

McCPippi's Fish Stew!

Rosa · 10/10/2009 19:13

Not really but I am trying to get my head round Christmas and not doing too well. Plus not sure if we are in Italy or the Uk which doesn't help either !
Glad Gio you managed to get things sorted out a bit - party will be afab. I have to think about Minirosas ..I do feel a bit guilty as with dd1 we had an all singing dancing big one in a hall but me thinks it will be a small family one only for MRosa !

bugger bugger caketopper stuck to backing-any experience of how to salvage? about to put post under food but thought would ask you guys as well.

Rosa · 10/10/2009 19:40

You mean the carta del forno is stuck to the cake ?

Lightly dampen the outside of the paper with warm water. then get sharp knife and peel off with sharp knife on cake side ..do it slowly. If the cake is crubly on the top then you are a bit stuffed IMO.
OR if it is well and truly stuck. you will have to slice a bit off the top when cooled. then flip the thing over and ice the bottom !

no sorry its the edible thomas caketopper thats stuck to its backing

Rosa · 10/10/2009 19:49

Warm water on the backing and slowly peel off . Juts afew drops on your fingers not too much or you will disolve the shape.
Or cut the backing off round teh shape of thomas if it really is bad.
If its sugar / rice paper you could try freezing it but I would be careful as it might make the top thing very brittle.

thanks Rosa, will try now. What do you mean just put the thomas thing on with the backing and remove when we eat? Sorry for the twenty questions!

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:10

Gio how's the cake making going?
of course YANBU re your dp... it's more or less the same here as well, though I must admit that dh is excellent with the after dinner/party tidying up.
Our dinner went well too, I recommend the sformato di porro, even if it leaves the house smelly for a long time.

Rosa, it rained heavily yesterday night, but today it was sunny here, with 22 degrees!

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:18

So much delicious cooking going on in this thread! I want to come eat round your houses! Couldn't be bothered to eat this evening, so just had toast. And 2 spoonfools of Nutella. Oh and some fruit - you know, to cancel out the Nutella.

Threw my upper-back/neck out this morning. Grrr. Am in agony. Tottering about like Frankenstein's monster.

I have 17500 Boots points on my card (that's a lot of nappies!), so am doing all my Christmas shopping in Boots this year I think, especially since the 3 for 2 on gifts can be used when you redeem your points.

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:20

PS. Did anyone see that video where someone pats Berlusca on the head? PMSL!

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:30

No, never seen it, have you got a link?

I'm sorry re your neck ... have you wrapped into a warm scarf/taken a really hot bath or shower?

of all those points on your boots card.

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:34

Eccolo!

Sputnik · 10/10/2009 21:38

Penthe, you would probably be amused to hear I am weaning DS (his last bf was the going to sleep one) using Beau Travail on You Tube. He was complaining loudly so manically trying to find something on you tube to distract him and that was in my browser history. Seems to work very well, the arses arses patriarch song catches his attention, while the rest lulls him to sleep nicely.
We are on night 2 and part 7, it's erm, visually interesting

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:39

!!

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:42

LOL @ your DS being bored lulled to sleep by Beau Travail!

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:42

Lol Sputnik ... I'm pretty sure you could start a movement on MN !

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:43

"The Beau Travail no tears weaning solution" or something...

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:43

OMG! I just noticed I wrote "spoonfools". Oh the shame. I will have to leave MN on account of my spelling!

Sputnik · 10/10/2009 21:45

Glad the dinner parties went well.

Camomilla · 10/10/2009 21:46

Penthe, I get that back/neck/arm block and really the best (thouggh painful) thing to do is move (after taking some strong painkilllers!). hope you feel better soon

Gio, DP would help with organising, but all the cooking I did it myself and tbh, if I do everything myself I know everything will be done, if I ask him, well, half the stuff he has to do gets forgotten... have a great party tomorrow!! happy birthday minigio, oh, and had the same with the Nigella cake - looked as if it was going to burn but uncooked in the middle and then 5 mins later it was done

pippi, wil try that!

francaghostohollywood · 10/10/2009 21:46

I quite like "spoonsfools"

Sputnik · 10/10/2009 21:46

I wil avoid part 4 next tie, as he was drifting off nicely but got all excited agian clapping at the birthday cake [cute]

Sputnik · 10/10/2009 21:48

Anyway, it'll definitely be my hot tip on the next "how to I stop my toddler bf to sleep" thread

Penthesileia · 10/10/2009 21:49

Awwww! So cute.

Yes, sorry, of course - Happy Birthday miniGio! Hope you managed to salvage the cake.

Thanks for the advice, Camo. I think you're right. I did feel better this afternoon when I was out walking with DD. It's seized up again now that I'm sitting MNing working.
