Starting schools, North vs South and books ...ci siamo !

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/10/2009 10:08

sounds good, both of them. But I am not that great with fish and I'd prefer a hot pot type of thing which I preper before they come and to be served with rice. I am terrible at cooking when people are here as all I want to do is chat with a glass of wine and forget everything I should do. so no, I want starters on the tables and dish to be taken out and served.

gosh how bossy...

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 10:10

!!!

Yes, I'm the same, though not very used to the hotpot dishes. How d you make your beans casserole?

I was thinking of preparing the fish and put it in the oven 30 mins before dinner...

Have read both recipes, but I'm not sure...

Sputnik · 08/10/2009 10:35

Franca IMO if you're getting branzini di mare they would be best done on thir own in the oven, simple as possible, then do something with veg to accompany.
One thing I like with fish is melanzane, this is agood one: fry onions and put them at the bottom of a dish, fry melanzane, sprinkle with thyme and pour over some cream, bake in oven. Peppers are good with fish too.
Pippi if you did roast fish you could prepare everything before, the fish just needs to go in the oven.

Bucharest · 08/10/2009 10:37

Morning! Is a branzino one you could bake in salt? That's my favourite thing to do with fish.....

Hope mini-Cam and mini-Rosa are feeling better.....Agree that mini-Sput is very cute indeed and v good at asking questions of spacemen!

Birthday invites given to teacher....another nice Mum introduced herself to me today....Buch's indepth analysis of the class is: there are a few too-posh-to-push parents (don't even say Buon Giorno, kids dropped off by Dad in suit with briefcase) 4 or 5 very nice mid 30s ones, v interested in the fact we are furrin...and then the fat grezze who stand and gawp with open mouths when I speak to dd to the point that I want to go up, physically lift their lower jaw so it closes their mouth and say "allora????" in their face....(but I probably shan't) Hopefully dd will get one big present at least from the people-we-really-wanted-to-invite as that is what we're doing for the party we've got tomorrow night,a boy from nursery....otherwise I'd better start clearing out Winx tat from last year in order to make room for Winx tat from this......

Berlusca was funny on the news though last night, I thought he was going to explode with huffy-puffery.

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 10:45

I'm going into recipe over load, I've been looking at books whole morning now

Sputnik, yes, I agree... I read the recipe for branzino con verdure al vapore etc, but it's a bit boring. So my two options are now:

  • branzino al sale (I love it too Buch!) or
  • orata al forno con patate e pomodirini ciliegia (another "classic" but always nice)

Good idea re the aubergines, I like aubergines. Have also just read a recipe for a sformato di porri. I love porri!

Bucharest, lol at too posh to push

Sputnik · 08/10/2009 10:59

I was going to suggest al sale, but might be a bit of a faff to serve for 7 people, as you have to get the skin off while making sure the salt doesn't go everywhere. It's one of the things I always prefer at restaurants rather than at home (the other being fritti of any kind).

Unfortunately the astronaut never answered DD's question, I don't know how NASA resisted her cuteness tbh, but there you go.

gio71 · 08/10/2009 11:05

mad busy with work and not had chance to read what have missed yet but needed to have quick laugh at Berlusca with people. Thought was going to have heart attack last night. And I LOVE the way he refers to himself in the 3rd person- meno male che Silvio c'e! Not that I have much faith that he will end up behind bars but at least it shows we are not completely a dictatorship here as yet.
Branzino al sale I say Franca and Pippi
And am interested in your melanzane dish Sput- what cream do you use- panna da cucina or fresh, liguidy one whatever it is called? What temp do you cook on (I am crap at improvising in cooking as you may tell-need quantities, times, temps- how demanding )
Off to do some more work-bye

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 11:06

Oh yes, you are right about the faff, will think about it.

Yes, how could they not answer her? Cold hearted people at the nasa. And , at some stage your little boy walks behind dd. So sweet!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/10/2009 11:07

Buch LOl as usual. It is somewhat similar to dd's class. A few pretending to be posh when in fact only wannabe-- wags coming in with range rover parked on yellow school zig zag lines [tutt-tutt emoticon] long fake nails and big tote bag; a few 30smthn normal mums, a buch of friendly grandads and grandmas, a couple of grumpy fat grezze. The wags and the grezze also stand open-mouthed when I ramble at the dds, I bet they also tutt-tutt us for bringing the class level down .

I know that fish is super easy but I have a mental block with fish so cannot do but found this fish stewwhich is more my style.

now my connection had gone down which made me happy so I could clean for tomorrow - oh why it has come back?

Bucharest · 08/10/2009 11:13

Oh, I'd forgotten the 3rd person thing with Silvio- he must stop doing that, it makes him look like a nutter.
(I mean, I know he is, but even more so)

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 11:19

In the UK: ds used to go to a very small primary (around 120 students) with

  • a good number of young mums. There was one I really like as she was quite bubbly etc, but she probably thought I was a sfigata for my habit to wear a wooly hat until june
  • a group of mothers of uncertain age, who used to arrive early in the playground and chat between them. They were always in fleece jackets.
  • a small number of mum in their 30s. 1 dad.
I didn't find it the friendliest of the playgrounds...

Here the majority of mother seem in their mid 30s/early 40s. There aren't many designers bags around, but sort of really "normale". Some are incredibly nice and witty. Some incredibly boring, always complaining their children don't eat at mensa. Get a grip, I say.

Pippi, I like the look of the fish stew.

I should go either. I have to work and tidy up and cook, as it's another warm day and the dc will want to go to giardinetti.

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 11:20

lol at berlusconi speaking in 3rd person. He is a nutter . He is def megalomane!

Bucharest · 08/10/2009 11:24

My grezze mothers are the ones with the Vuitton handbags, not having yet realised that you can't actually buy class.....

McCloudsextoy · 08/10/2009 12:37

Evviva, have you heard about Berlusca?

Now let me read the thread as i seem to have missed a lot!

McCloudsextoy · 08/10/2009 12:47

Is minirosa ok? anybody personally in touch with rosa????

sorry, about my previous thread, got very excited abut the B news, of course Italy being Italy, nothing will happen.

Bucharest, pmls at your post about not being able to buy class. It must become quote of the week.

At our school no wags (phew), but lots of really sexi black men which make for an interesting school run. One particular guy who looks like Stringer Bell!

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 12:49

Sexy men? You have sexy men?

I can text rosa, I think she had a doc appt today.

Sputnik · 08/10/2009 13:09

Your mix of parents sounds a lot like DD's old school Franca, most were pretty normal. In the last week she was at school one of her class had a party at home and I got chatting to the mum, she was really nice and we got on well, shame our paths had never crossed before, even though our DDs also went to the same nido. Oh well!

Yesterday I got quite annoyed with a mother at DD's school the one with matching Chanel shoes and belt. She piled her kids into her enormous jeep, no sign of a child seat whatsoever.

Gio I use the runny cream and bake around 180, I suppose, until it looks ready.

McCloudsextoy · 08/10/2009 13:11

yes, they are sexi!!!! long legs, beautiful black skin, slim......ahhhhh! And next to them middle aged white men, with beer belly, fleeces, pointed shoes, you name something awful, they are wearing it.

Rosa · 08/10/2009 13:12

Here I am and thanks for your concerns. Polmonite has been ruled out for now as her breathing is much better she doesn't have the rattle on her chest now . However DOc is concerned about her temp that will not go . He has changed her antibiotics and I have to call him domani if she has febbre again this pm or sta notte. This might mean a trip to the hosp for tests as nothing 'obvious ' is coming out . He has suggested that I get both vaccinated against the normal flu seeing as they were/ are hit badly by this virus now. I have the ricetta then what do I do with it do I take it to him to stick in the girls ? I never though to ask!
I was up until .2.30 and then up again a few times between then and 06.30....I am taking Actimel /Suprodyn and hoping that I will not get sick.

I have to confess I actully like a LV bag but ( and hides in shame ) I did not realise that the bit with the logo on is plastic ..with leather finishes etc . I thought for 1000 euro the whole thing would be leather and gold embossed !!!
See I have never inspcted one up close only the street sellers versions and of course I thought they were plastic but the real one as well ???? Raving Mad ..

OP posts:
Sputnik · 08/10/2009 13:41

Rosa, glad she doesn't have pulmonite at least. Hope the temp goes down soon. I would ask at the pharmacy what to do with the vaccine.

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 13:54

Oh Sputnik, don't get me started on the lack of chid seats... it really makes me , as it is another sign of lazy parenting here in Italy more than anything else grrrrrr....

rosa, glad it's not polmonite!
I think you can get the vaccine in farmacia. I wonder if you can have it done al consultorio?

francaghostohollywood · 08/10/2009 13:54
