francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 10:38

OK Bucharest, I want scammy's info now. Stop beating about the bush.
Just one thing. Come oooooooooon!

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 10:56

lol- I know nothing (about Scammy) I was in England.....dp opened one eye last night (we wanted to watch Harry Potter but dd went to sleep too late so have recorded it) and said "che fa quel deficiente la" and then muttered something about Scammy picking him up outside the biliardo the other week.....

What about TEFL???

Sputnik · 14/09/2009 11:15

Me and Rosa are both considering doing a TEFL course. Don't know about her but I was looking at the online ones and not sure they are worth it. I was considering doing a Celta course in Rome.
But I've been sort of reconsidering the whole plan as I'm not sure when I would be actually able to work as I am currently full time chauffeur to DD, I have about 4-5 hours in the middle of the day.

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 11:18

Definitely don't do an online one- they wouldn't be recognised anywhere likely to give you a decently paid job. CELTA (either Trinity College or Cambridge) is really the only way to go.

You can do part-time CELTA's over the space of an academic year...either with theory modules that they send you via correspondence and then meetings every so often followed by a chunk of "residential" time where you get your actual teaching practice in. (that's how I did my DELTA)

Sputnik · 14/09/2009 11:24

Would I be able to do that from here though? Who did you do it with? The course I was looking at offered a 3-month thing going in 2x a week, in the centre of Rome.

Sputnik · 14/09/2009 11:26

Thing is I'm not sure I'd be able to get a proper job in the hours I'm actualy free. Maybe private lessons though.

McCloudsextoy · 14/09/2009 11:41

Is Scamy still with Golino then? Did your Dp Bucharest tell you what they talk about? Tell him to tape the conversation next time, if he is sort of the gu who does not remember anything....

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 11:59

I think they talk about football.

I did my DELTA with a college in Nottingham- they sent me the theory modules and then I just went there for 3 weeks in the July for the TP and the final exams. The British Council in Rome do p/t ones, is that the one you mean? International House also do them and have a v good reputation.

The thing is, any language school will probably take a non-qualified efl teacher - the most important thing being their native-speaker or almost native speaker status, the qualification though gives you so many ideas for lessons, materials etc. Tbh though, if it was just for private lessons I wouldn't bother, stuff off the web can help you prepare for any eventuality there, there are zillions of websites with ready made lessons, all sorts.

McCloudsextoy · 14/09/2009 12:14

Quick google and it seems valeria and scamy are still together, still he does seem to be a bit of an imbecille to do miss italia. Forse una copertura?

McCloudsextoy · 14/09/2009 12:15

Tell your dp to talk to scamy about girls, and not football! That's what I want to know. There was also some gossip that Golino was pregnant, but that may be just gossip. Franca, you should know!

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 12:28

OK, let's get this straight Buch: are your dh and Scamy friends? Like school friends? Like they go al bar together? I won't ask for more details.
(Well you could of course tell your dh to ask him what the hell was he doing at miss italia).
As for football, that's what men talk about all the time, according to dh and most of my male friends.

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 12:35

Apparently, when Scammy was now't but a lad, Dp and his mates used to let him tag along to the stadio.
(dp usually heard muttering "l'ho cresciuto io" when he's on the tv....)

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 12:42

Lol!!!

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 12:44

Ah Buch, forgot to ask, do you need English to be your mother tongue to do the TEFL?

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 12:45

Ah, so possibly Scamy looks up to your dp. Tell your dp to veto him any future participation to Miss Italia

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 12:50

Will do.....
No, you don't need mother-tongue English to do a TEFL. (in fact, I've worked with qualified tefl teachers whose English, tbh, has been a bit eyebrow raisingly non-native!)

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 12:56

Ah thanks, that's good to know re TEFL. I might give it a thought.

Bucharest · 14/09/2009 12:59

I've never heard you speak, but your written English is usually far superior to a lot of natives, so you'd have no problem!

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 13:13

!
You know, I do have a Proficiency...

Rosa · 14/09/2009 13:21

POp off to get dd and missed lots...
I have no option but to do TEFAL on line as I can't up and out with the dds- don't think there is anywhere in Venice that does anything else.
My theory is it is a start ( is it a bad start?) and I would only be able to do private lessons or whatever in the mornings anyway for a few years or until I have both in education. Plus I want to do something that will get the brain cells ticking over a bit as I feel so stale. If I was in the Uk I would go and do some evening classes in something but here ?!!!!!!!
FOr the record DD said she ate Pasta in bianco and when I asked her abouy meat &veg she said no ...Teacher said she ate the lot ( pollo e patate ) but wasn't sure about the mela as she went in pausa . Still no sign of a menu speriamo domani.
Shi
y weather here but I am NOT complaining right now !...Vediamo in a week or so ....

Sputnik · 14/09/2009 13:21

Thanks for that, tbh my heart isn't really in doing it, just feeling skint and see the demand is there. I should look harder for work in my own field really. Feeling a bit heartened in that department as I have just got a probable new client.

Rosa · 14/09/2009 13:22

Opps TEFAL... I was looking at irons ( and toasters !!!)

Sputnik · 14/09/2009 13:23

Yes I know that stale feeling, that sets in after you have been changing nappies for a few years!

francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2009 13:31

I've had that stale feelings for yrs now...

Rosa · 14/09/2009 13:31

I have never claimed to be clever in fact found it hard to study at times . I couldn't manage 1 clue in the crossword when I was in the Uk .... Usually I can do at least a couple or even some of the quick one - found it stupidly hard even to get 1 or 2 clues in that. I can't concentrate on a book with a slightly complicated plot ( forget what happened and have to go back and start again - get bored - give up )I know my 'old' job will never come back and I don't want it my main job is a mum right now but feel that I should do something to supplement that.
