I buy school shoes at a shop called Shoeworld in the deep east end. 7 quid and last more than ds' friends' shoes that come from Clarks. Trainers from our german supermarket, also cheapy.

McCloudsextoy · 29/09/2009 19:53

Is it that important to measure the feet? We have never done it, we just plop the shoe on and if it does not fall off, we buy the pair.

Che figura!!!!!!!!!!!
Why won't he just go away!

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 20:29

Gio yes, totally depressing.

MI Gomorra well worth a read. I saw Saviano interviewed by Bignardi the other day... I can't believe the kind of life this very young man has to lead. If you start to think seriously of how tragic the italian situation is ... .

Shoes: for the winter I usually buy ds one pair of cheap trainers (to keep at school) and cheap snow boots from Decathon (for a grand total of 17 euros more or less). One pair of sturdier trainers, this year I was thinking new balance. That's it.
Dd this year inherits one pair of Kickers from ds. We bought her a pair of fake ugg boots for 5 euros . So I can splash on another pair....
They don't measure shoes here in Milan... if you bump into the right shoe expert they can give you the right size just looking at your dc's feet...

Gio, is there a comptoire de cotonniers (sp?) in rome? Shop assistants are usually quite nice there!

McCloudsextoy · 29/09/2009 20:56

Oh, i luuuurve Comptoir! lol at feet experts!

cannot open y9our link gio, will try later, but connection is shit tonight.

have been checking apartmenttherapy today, (thankyou franca for thinking of me), pmsl at the names of some of the couples showcasing their pads, sooo american!

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 21:00

talking about funny surnames... yesterday I saw a thread on a A list wedding (featured in the daily mail ) The bride and groom were a Miss Perfect and a Mr Caring Can't remember the first names!

Yes, I saw that blog and thought of you mcc...

McCloudsextoy · 29/09/2009 21:12

Thank you gio for the link, just read it. Awful.

TheMysticMasseuse · 29/09/2009 22:01

i love comptoir in theory, but nothing ever fits.. i think french clothes only fit french women.

gomorra is a must read. it isn't just WHAT it says, but how- i think the most amazing feat is that the book is so amazingly analytical, so insightful, so intellectually challenging in the way he goes about investigating and connecting things we all "know", but weaving them together to explain in a way that makes some sort of chilling sense.. it is absolutely shattering in its conclusions. RS is a young man of supreme intelligence and a real free mind- resolutely NOT a journalist but a social scientist of the first order.

i watched snippets of the interview on youtube and it sent shivers down my spine.

TheMysticMasseuse · 29/09/2009 22:04

mcc, i think it IS quite important to measure the feet actually... sorry a bit of an obsession of mine as i have piedi piatti which give me all sorts of problems (and getting worse all teh time, including leg and back pain etc). Shoes incredibly important to support feet etc.

having said that, children shoes ridiculosuly priced, startrite being the only reasonable brand

ok, off the soapbox now...

Camomilla · 29/09/2009 22:07

how depressing gio......... when I saw the pic yesterday I was hoping it was a fotomontaggio, though I knew it wasn't......

one more reason to move: shitty obnoxious kids, well, can't blame them seeing the parents... you see, DS is easily led, but because he didn;t know anyone when he started reception, having gone to a different preschool, he obviously followed the loudest kids (the bully fighting swearing ones). He is fine, he doesn;t fight or swear, but constatly goes on about how nasty these kids are too him, but he keeps on saying that he likes them , that they play with him. but today he's been closed to tears since coming home from school because he is "boring" according to said brats (because he doesn;t fight, just watches). I keep on telling him not to play with them, to play with x, y and z instead, but he still plays with the brats - feel awful for being so nasty about them because I know it;s not their fault, but it's my ds suffering and I really don't want him growing up with them! they were the ones that instigated total chaos at his party, the ones who are always sent out of class, or to the "sad" board.... aaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhh

sorry, rant over, but feel powerless, can;t say to the teacher "please make sure ds doens't play with brats-gang"

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 22:09

Yes, the interview was chilling. Did you see the young girls talking about the dos and donts of a woman's behaviour in their little town? . Terribile.

TheMysticMasseuse · 29/09/2009 22:11

no i missed tht bit. i saw the people up north saying that all the dead soldiers were terroni and only in it for the money, not heroes like their ancestors. i felt physically sick. there is SO MUCH ignorance in italy for a country that prides itself on having amazing edcational standards...

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 22:13

Oh no camo poor sweet ds . I know how you feel. Ds had similar problems when he was in reception in the UK, things settled down after a while and the "piu' biricchini" soon learnt how to behave in the playground.
Similar things last year in prima... he once asked me if he really was a sfigato (a term we never use at home) as he couldn't play football .

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 22:14

The educational standards are very high only for a small minority. Otherwise have dropped dramatically in recent yrs. And people have been brainwashed by 20 yrs of bad tv.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 22:16

this at least will make you laugh: Michelle ma belle

Camomilla · 29/09/2009 22:26

that made me laugh franca...

how did DS get over that?

Sputnik · 29/09/2009 22:28

Your poor DS Camo. Horrible to see DCs going through that and be powerless.

Will have to look out these interviews. This terroni thing makes me sick, but not new, I remember it from the early 90s.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 22:45

Ds went through a difficult time last year (remember how much I was panicking???).
I hope he's got over it. The teachers were really good at dealing with some bad episodes last yr.
Plus, I think that at our dc's age, friendships are still very fluid... and change.
I think we, the parents, should never get tired of discussing different behaviours with our children, trying to understand other people's feelings, etc.

ANd then ds is quite megalomaniac and is convinced he is the next pele' ... poor thing, he is soooo naive and enthusiastic, sometimes I want to protect him toooooo much

Have to go to bed now, a virtual hug from me to your ds camo

Camomilla · 29/09/2009 22:51

thanks franca, I remember your ds' angst, glad he's now better and dreaming of being the next pele'

notte

ps - I'm looking at boden and found a few things I like what's happening to me

gio71 · 30/09/2009 07:06

poor ds Camo , still might be worth having a word with teacher if continues so she could steer him towards x, y and z and away from devil children on occasions? And bless your ds Franca wanting to be the next pelè. I'm glad he seems better now.

Bucharest · 30/09/2009 08:16

Morning....
Camo- hugs, sounds like we're having a similar kind of school situation...it is so frustrating, dd loves school, as she always loved nursery....and I will not let these "little" things (actually the bullygirl is built like a nave) prevent that....
I spoke to the maestra who confirmed it had been the girl I thought it must have been, she's molto vivace (per-lease) and the teacher is keeping an eye on her...
Speaking to my friend outside (who knows the family..."ma c'e una situazione familiare particolare". Don't give a ca**o, my child is not going to pay the price for these people.
And breathe........

Minerva- I go to a Clark's outlet in the UK- not much choice, but have got some brilliant bargains....Macarthur Glen designer outlet, there are a few around the country and they all have a Clarks....Otherwise I go to Lewis's as they have all the Clark's range, but lots of other shoes too...their own range are quite good, and about £10 cheaper than Clark's. Startrite always feel so hard to me....Have also picked up some sandals/trainers etc from places like Brantano and Shoefayre (belongs to the co-op I think)

Those 2 families I mentioned yesterday are part of the same "group". The latter one is the braccio destro of the former apparently.
Lowlife.

Camomilla · 30/09/2009 09:42

well, there's vivace and vivace, isn't it Bucharest! might have a chat with the teacher, even this morning ds was being a devil, obviously he's no saint but the expressions he was using, well, he can only have heard them at school (nothing bad per se, just the way he said them) and I'm soooo sick of hearing their names!

shoes... for school, clarks are awful - he had them last year but they're sooooooooooo heavy and thick, just horrible. just got him a decent pair from next. summer he only wears crocs or next canvas velcro trainers (which I made him wear at school too when it was hot). but otherwise I seem to find good shoes at clarks, yes, a bit boring (though I think they're more boring for girls, with stupid pink everywhere) but last well. best shoes he's ever had where a pair of geox he received for his first birthday (sized up) from a friend and his feet were never sweaty (had very chubby feet when he was little). might invest on a pair of those for winter. He also loved his next mock-huggs, wore them for 2 winters.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 30/09/2009 09:55

Camo hugs and buch (wasn't laghing at situation just at the way you describe it btw).

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 30/09/2009 10:20

was meant: Camo and buch hugs!

minervaitalica · 30/09/2009 10:37

Camo: sorry to hear re: your story... But your DS is a good lad if he does not take parts in fights etc while his "friends" do so it looks to me you are doing great.

Bucharest - big hugs. I was bullied for years myself (pretty much until I went abroad actually), and I know how awful it is. Frankly, in my experience the only thing that really made a difference was family support, and I am sure your DD gets plenty.

Will read Gomorrah. And by the way, it's not just terroni. It's rumeni, albanesi, zingari, islamici, slavi, neri e chi piu' ne ha piu' ne metta. And it is from educated people and the political class too - which is a lot more dangerous. My hopes rely on expats returning en masse...
