Let me know if you are planning a trip to the centre at any time and I will do the same re EUR. Is it Acilia you are at, can't remember?
OK ladies - wedding outfit advice needed. Have a winter wedding in UK, just before Xmas. Would like to get something to wear from here though, would be nice not to risk same outfit with other guests. Am size 14 so nothing too sausage effect like . And nothing too ridiculously expensive.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 13:11

Tell me the budget first Gio.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 13:12

sorry, that was blunt

Rosa · 29/09/2009 13:19

I bet we will still have to pay more for a carta d'identia though ..... I recall the saga I had to get my carta - I needed my permesso so had to come back and then they gave me a carta d'identita that is valid for longer than my permesso !!!I was 8 mths pg at the time - I gave birth fatser than they gave me my carta !!!
Back better ish - well it had to be now have dd1 with febbre and a horrbile tosse which thankfully is in frequent but when she does cough it is like she has a bear in there.Minirosa is finishing dd1 cold from last week so how long before she goes down with this version ??? Well we managed 2 complete weeks of materna Miracle !
Well done on the meeting BUch I trust you were also wearing the correct clothing revealing lots of flesh and how many piercings are you having before the next one ?
Vicenza is a wee bit far for me as is Treviso to be honest but so far we have not made it to look as dh just too busy ! ( thats good )

Sputnik · 29/09/2009 13:20

If you're interested in velvet Blunauta always had a lot of that kind of thing. There's one at the end of via Cola di Rienzo, or used to be. Actually there's an outlet type place of their's on a side road off C di R somewhere, maybe near Castroni. We could have a shopping meet up but I can't guarantee the amenability of DS!

We are in Tre Pini which is near Spinaceto/Tor de Cenci, a bit further in from Acila but that area.

Rosa · 29/09/2009 13:23

We all have weddings ... GIo I saw some nice things in Coin in the sensible size ( normal people !)collection the KOAN stuff.
I have my M&S skirt and jacket on the way and I hope to god they fit. Went to order a jacket from next sold out !
Buch eeek about your dd is the nasty girl coming to the party maybe a tumble off the bouncy castle could be arranged ????

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 13:24

I'd love to be able to dispense advise on the rome shopping scene... but sadly I'm not so cosmopolitan .
So, apart from the usual suspects from zara to emporio armani (which I find a bit boring, I prefer Sportmax, but it's now too £££)... have you had a look on yoox?

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 13:25

oh yes, koan! (I don't live nr a coin, so I keep forgetting about it)

Sputnik · 29/09/2009 13:47

I don't think I'd want to start a feud with the local mafia. I guess that's half the problem.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 13:57

Me neither!!!
uff, I'm searching for decent children shoes... to no avail...

minervaitalica · 29/09/2009 14:31

Buch - ehm, where do you live? Your life sounds like a real adventure (I am going to start to use the word grezze too now....) Have you considered writing a book about your life in Italy and sell it in the UK? I bet it would make the top 10 at Xmas

Actually I am that EU citizens are still required to sort out the permesso when it is perfectly clear that you do not need one any more. And why should your ID cost more?
The comune over here did not create any problem at all, and the ID for my Brit DH was done as soon as the poliziotto from the comune came to check he lived at his residential address. It took 5 mins. But do not get me started on the agenzia delle entrate...

Santanche' vs Berlusconi: boak and more boak. Dalla padella alla brace.

Franca - I am very at the price of decent children shoes in Italy (50 eur plus??). I am off to the Uk in November and I am seriously considering buying them over there so at least I save the VAT...

Gio, have you tried Max &Co/Patrizia Pepe/Pennyblack? They are cheaper than Sportmax but they do fairly plain dresses which can be dressed up with bag shoes etc. (unless this is one of those British weddings in a castle were a gown and a hat are required... God how much I hated those).

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 14:49

Oh yes I second Max&Co, Pennyblack and PP too (though I noticed that PP has become more expensive).
What's Sisley like? I haven't gone to have a look for ages, since the shop I used to go to has been moved...

Yes, children shoes are tricky. Not only expensive but also often ugly. Or too trendy. I like classic shoes... so I was in a pickle also in the UK... in Exeter there wasn't a great choice either. Uffa!

Rosa · 29/09/2009 15:05

ID -I gave up even arguing at the comune when he said thats EU15 please and dh was free .
Shoes I find that dd has very slim feeet so pain to find shoes. Thi summer after her Eu56 Birkenstocks lasted 3 weeks we tried every pair of sandals in Jesolo, Cavallino and Venice she ended up a with a pair of Barbie Eu22 from Pitarello and they have done the summer ( I just wanted them to get me to the UK !). I bought a pair of autumn classic T bar shoes from Startrite that should do her until winter and then am hoping that her stupid price Naturino boots will still fit as they had a insole last year . If not I am so tempted to order on line knowing her width and save money !
Fu*k she still has a temp of 38.5 coughing is nasty - she is on her 2nd chuppa of the day as it seems to help....... ( bad mummy ????)

gio71 · 29/09/2009 15:32

right list of shops duly noted and will be brave and shop for clothes over here, and will face down the terrifying shop assistants which are the reasons I stick to Zara,Mango and the UK usually where i can generally shop in peace!
Yes Buch you should write a book- you got quote of the week on Mumsnet, a book will be a piece of p**s for you
Poor dd Rosa!! hope she feels better soon
Children's shoes here-ridiculously over priced!! DS has run around in cheap fake crocs this summer am afraid and I have just got a pair of allegedly Geox winter shoes from one of the stalls they sometimes have on Cola di Rienzo for 20 euros! Result!

minervaitalica · 29/09/2009 16:23

Pittarello.... Mmmmmm... That's an idea. Someone else suggested Deichmann (never been, and not sure whether it is just up here) - I will have to try and let you know.

Where do you all go for children's shoes in the UK? John Lewis? Clarks?

Bucharest · 29/09/2009 16:27

minerva- I live in a place that sounds like train but with the last 2 letters swapped round....(do not wish to be googled by mafiosi )

Said lowlife have surnames beginning with A and R respectively....one has name like a big snake (rather fittingly) and is well-known pentito from 10 yrs or so back....The other is more recent....has name like Italian version of an ex-US president who was known for being a nutter (and cowboy actor) and is now dead.....Not sure if both lots are part of same clan...I don't think so.....

minervaitalica · 29/09/2009 16:41

Buch, respect to you! I never even considered the ins and outs of living every day in a certain type of environment, for children even.

This may make me even less tolerant to mummies complaining about little Alvises or Henriettas not being given a bigger part in the school play...

Sputnik · 29/09/2009 17:13

Have you read Gomorrah MI? Well worth a read. I was thinking about it the other day as we drove up from Napoli and passed through Mondragone, which features in the book. Always thought it sounded like a romantic place, but god, what a hole.

minervaitalica · 29/09/2009 17:36

Sputnik, no I have not as I thought it would be too graphic/disturbing for me. But I should probably get over that at my age and will give it a go.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 29/09/2009 18:11

I second the reading of Gomorrah. Disturbing is to put it lightly but it should be read by every italian. I have got his new book in front of me but I do not dare open it as yet for those reasons you mention MI.

Here we buy Primigi at discount fabbrica. They have lots of choice and half the price. Also big plus is shoes are simple and not necessary pink for girls. Brought back 4 pair in september.

Rosa poor dd. I also find that leccalecca are a godsend at tricky times.

gio71 · 29/09/2009 19:13

3rd vote for Gomorrah. Didn't know he'd written another one Pippi? Is it more of the same?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 29/09/2009 19:31

Is a collection of essays that he wrote from 2004 to 2009. It is called 'La bellezza e l'Inferno'. I predict it will be of similar style...

McCloudsextoy · 29/09/2009 19:44

Gomorra is a must, I agree. What is the new one about?

Rosa · 29/09/2009 19:44

Minerva I go to Jones as CLarks is always heaving . But I also go to the one that does end of lines..B erm ,....Brantano thats it after I have had her feet measured in Clarks have had some great bargains there - This year die to thin feet we diddn't have any joy !
I start and stop Gomorrah as I have to be in the right mood. DH has read it - well I hope he has as he has 2 copies of it !
DD seems a bit better but she is under Tacchip. humidifer on in her room so am hoping .......

McCloudsextoy · 29/09/2009 19:48

Uh! Hello Damon, was just about to google Saviano. How was your day? I had a good day, lots to do in the house that didn't get done, but managed to make meals, have kids over after school, clean bathroom, read at lunchtime, so that is a good day for me these days. I can lend you the first volume of Guerra e pace when I have finished it, maybe another week or so? So whilst you are on the 1st part i will be on the 2nd part.
When can you have an adult day out?
