I am not a slut or a whore

I have a pole in my lounge for exercise, it takes up less room than my airwalker or a bike.

Apparently only whore, sluts and dirty women pole dance.

OK I am not very good yet and I find it all difficult but I want to do it and the himself has no such thoughts other than where he was fitting it.Yes I would like to be able to get off the ground but it will (hopefully) happen eventually.

I wouldn't have a pole in my living room but I must admit it looks fun for exercising. Would going to an all female class make one appear a lose woman, I wonder. I got bored with the gym.

Dittany just had a quick look without sound. Think she was saying it tones up inner thighs. I would do it with leggings on.

Remotew · 09/09/2009 12:22

Also just thought I'd add that 'the bunny' is no muckier that Jane Fonda's doggy leg kicks.

Poles have been danced around before e.g the Maypole (yes I know it's a phallic symbol) but I think we can move on from it's seedy past and put the pole in the fitness class.

OK I climbed up one on a hen night recently, very ladylike mind you, no knickers on show and twisted down it like the women in the exercise video, I loved it.

The do in The Wicker Man

Remotew · 09/09/2009 14:58

Oh I won't be doing it in front of men.

Rumpel · 09/09/2009 15:08

DITTANY - I did the 'BUNNY' for my first pole dance 'assessment' . I am very good at the sexy moves around the pole but rubbish at actually hanging off the pole LOL!

MY DH has never seen me pole dance - twas only in front of female friends/class memebers - (all female).

FWIW - many moons ago women used to apply herbal ointments to a wooden pole and rub up and down on it to achieve a state of 'higher consciousness (sp?)' It must be true 'cos I read it in a fascinating book years ago (wish I could remember the name) about wise women/white witches etc.

Remotew · 09/09/2009 15:12

I wouldn't wear rubber underwear either.

DITTANY - yes but I mean lots and lots of years ago before we invented all the well known drugs people use to get high today.

Like in days of yore when Scot's men used to rub semenm all over themselves mixed with woden to make themselves blue and scary .

Also if we turn this on it's head;

maybe strippers actually use moves which come naturally to women (ie being aware of/in tune with our feminine sensuality and power) and use this age old form in a modern(ish) way to titillate men. Possibly we women folk danced like this for ourselves (without removing clothes) and to express our feminity long before strip clubs (or such like) came along.

Bellydancing after all tradtionally is never done in front of men but by women for women.

Personally I'm not that interested in learning stripper moves, but as a tool to dance and keep fit it seems like fun. Nothing wrong with shining up to the top and gracefully spinning down, it was a real rush and I enjoyed it.

mustrunmore · 09/09/2009 20:38

Rumpel may well have the basis of something there though; you look at alot of tribal dance, which has evolved little if its still in very intrinsic cultures. Look at the moves there.

Blue men have never made me feel scared tho

mustrunmore · 09/09/2009 20:43

And I can just imagine the 16th century version of mumsnet; maybe that was the leading factor in maypoles being banned as heathen phallic symbols; it wasnt christianity or the government, it was a load of mums getting bees in their bonnets

Rumpel · 09/09/2009 20:57

LOL MUST

DITTANY do you hear that buzzing sound? Oh wait it must be my other 'bunny' .

I'll think you'll find the bunny is a wellknown movement for opening up and stretching the pelvis. Younger bunnies can do it with nothing to lean on but the older stiffer ones need someat to hold onto to get up again - 'cor it doesn't half give you housemaids knees if you're not careful .
wearing those giant heels makes it so much easier to get up.

Rumpel · 09/09/2009 20:58

MUST - not even papa smurf?

Rumpel · 09/09/2009 21:00

DITTANY - I see what you mean. When I said 'folk' I meant womenkind as in people not folk as in folk dance....... Sorry to be ambiguous.

Also what about tribes in other countries - the women there dance in grass skirts with their chest bare - surely we must have been like that many years ago. It is just a display of a women's fertility surely?

Rumpel · 09/09/2009 21:05

Another point - pole dancing is usually performed wearing small garments as the bare flesh makes it easier to grip the pole - clothes tend to slide.
