So is it ok to talk about our families?

Strange topic I know as this is obviously what we do on mumsnet a lot of the time.

I noticed that in all the discussions about "old" and "new" mumsnetters, several people said that they used to feel that they knew people better and discuss families by name etc.

I am relatively new here (a couple of months) and I just assumed that it was not done for whatever reason (privacy, stalkers etc?!) Am I wrong? I would love to know more about people eg names and ages of family, partners etc, where you live, what your partners do.

Basically I am just really nosey! If it's not the done thing then sorry for sticking my beak in and just ignore this thread.

Jaybee and Northernlass1 I lived in Peterborough from 1984 to 1990. I used to work in Topo Gigio's if you know it. Northernlass1 we're looking at dp getting transferred to the NZ Navy but he's humming and haaing because he's only got 7 years to go and although you can transfer your pension in theory in practice its nigh on impossible apparently. The other place we're looking at is Canada, dp has an uncle who lives there so it would be ok. I just want to up sticks and go, we've not got any close family here other than my dad and after having moved so much in my childhood I'm not particularly attached to here, dp is far more cautious, hates change and needs a bomb up his arse to get him to do anything. Nettie does Tony Hand still play for Sheffield or has he moved back up to Scotland. I remember he had the chance to make a go of it in the NHL but chickened out. His mother was a right battleaxe. I always liked Paul Heavey (is he still at Cardiff?)

crystaltips · 07/05/2003 16:43

I'm 38 DH is 39. DS is 10 and DD is 8
I live in Northern Ireland ( bit of a giveaway for those who know me )

Loves : Gin, Wine, my family, soaps, lie-ins, reading, lunching with my pals

Hates : In-laws, bullies, spiders, diets and homework

Jaybee · 07/05/2003 16:50

Topo Gigio's - was that the superb pizza/pasta place up that iron spiral staircase in the centre? If so, I spent many an evening in there. I was born in Peterborough and moved away in 1995 - albeit not that far away.

nettie · 07/05/2003 20:15

Megg, Tony Hand went back to Scotland a few years ago, but theres talk of him coming back here next season. No idea what happened to Paul Heavey. Tim Cranston was always my favourite.

megg · 07/05/2003 20:35

Tim Cranston, small but perfectly formed, he was gorgeous. Paul Adey is another one.
Yes Jaybee Topo's is the one that had the spiral staircase, I spent many a night trying not to fall down the damn thing when I had consumed too many in the bar upstairs whilst working. Where do you live now? My dad lives in Woodnewton.

nettie · 07/05/2003 20:48

What about Jamie Leach!!! ( Can't do smiley faces, but would do lots if I could!)

XAusted · 07/05/2003 21:05

Just to add myself to the register ...
Am 32, have 2 cats (aged 5), one dog (aged 3), one dd (aged 6), one ds (aged 4) and one dh (39). Live near Derby but come from Wales. Have lived in Bucks and Shropshire. Visit mumsnet once or twice a week to see what's going on and add the occasional irrelevant comment! I'm a SAHM but will be a part-time student from Sept.

crystaltips · 07/05/2003 21:06

Oooooh XAusted - what are you hoping to study ??

kaz33 · 07/05/2003 21:18

The bellydancer comment was a joke ( obviously ) and not very funny - in fact now I try and explain not sure that i can.

Ah well, I'll leave internet humour to those who can - Mum2Toby etc...

34, think I better change my name - live in SW London with DP who is 43 and our DS (21 months) - no 2 due within the month. I work as a solicitor in the city - mind boggingly depressing and boring and DP does education for a software company.

slug · 07/05/2003 21:56

Ha! I think I've finally worked out how you do these. the sluglet

crystaltips · 07/05/2003 21:59

That's so unfair - how could you call such a cutie a "sluglet" ???

whymummy · 07/05/2003 22:01

oh slug she`s lovely,little angel,is she?

SamboM · 07/05/2003 22:02

Mum2Toby · 07/05/2003 22:05

She's gorgeous Slug!! I don't know how to that.... can I attach a scanned photo of my ds???

florenceuk · 07/05/2003 22:25

Gorgeous baby Slug - and I like the garden too! Very impressed by all the baby pictures that people have posted links to recently.

I'm 37, civil servant, DS is 18mths. Living in SW London, from NZ originally.

florenceuk · 07/05/2003 22:28

BTW M2T, I think you need to put your baby photo on a website somewhere, and then post a link.

anais · 07/05/2003 22:37

Ooooh, oxocuba and Bozza, how nice to have been missed

Claireandrich · 08/05/2003 09:10

M2T - you need her picture on a webpage. I did mine - link further down this page - through babyworld (as Mumsnet don't have that feature). Other sites offer them too - some free, some charge. Or you can create your own webpage.

Claireandrich · 08/05/2003 09:13

Slug - what a sweetie! But what a mean name!!!

Mum2Toby · 08/05/2003 09:14

Thanks folks, I'll give it a try.

slug · 08/05/2003 13:27

It's NOT a mean name, she's my own little baby slug. Unfortunately the nice garden isn't mine, it's the inlaws. FIL posted them, you can post photos on places like yahoo.

XAusted · 08/05/2003 13:57

Crystaltips - nothing exciting yet! Going to do access to higher ed course then maybe a degree in English. Ambition to be perpetual student but not sure I could cope with all the alcohol which seems necessary to study and, of course, I won't be allowed to stay in bed all day. Other ambition to be a librarian and read books all day and fine people.

Rhubarb · 08/05/2003 15:33

I'm 21, have a figure like Kylies and look like Angelina Jolie. I have 3 1:1 Hons degrees in Science, Quantum Physics and English Literature. My husband is a wealthy banker and we live in a small, 7 bedroomed house in the country with our darling daughter, 4 ponies, 2 cats, 1 pack of hunting dogs and a parrot.

Mum2Toby · 08/05/2003 15:51

Hunting dogs?? .... highly controversial! Don't you mean RETIRED hunting dogs?

Rhubarb · 08/05/2003 15:55

LOL! Us rich folk don't care about a few old foxes you know!
