So is it ok to talk about our families?

Strange topic I know as this is obviously what we do on mumsnet a lot of the time.

I noticed that in all the discussions about "old" and "new" mumsnetters, several people said that they used to feel that they knew people better and discuss families by name etc.

I am relatively new here (a couple of months) and I just assumed that it was not done for whatever reason (privacy, stalkers etc?!) Am I wrong? I would love to know more about people eg names and ages of family, partners etc, where you live, what your partners do.

Basically I am just really nosey! If it's not the done thing then sorry for sticking my beak in and just ignore this thread.

I'm another Scot (although born in South Africa), living in Glasgow. 42 with a 2 and 1/2 year old ds. Would like another one, but dh (44 next month) doesn't seem to feel any sense of urgency in coming to a decision!

My name is obvious to anyone who knows me (although so far, no-one who does seems to have come onto the site!) - especially given the clues I have given about my background!

Lambchop - there was a Scottish meet up last year, but the one earlier this year never actually took place. Maybe it is time to have another go!

Bobsmum · 07/05/2003 09:50

My turn, I'm 26 going on 13. ds is 8 months, dh works for a rather well known inernational hotel company - fab perks of the job!!!
Originally fae Glasgae but unfortunately relocated dahn sarf to Hertfordshire to an orrible new town wif no life, pants schools and stupid house prices - desperate to move back to Scotland so i can put all this house profit into a lovely big edwardian sandstone semi in the West End. I'm a youthworker with a local Christian charity - about to become their webmaster - ho ho!

eefs · 07/05/2003 10:04

25 going on 40, have 1 ds 2.5 yrs and another on the way and one lovely DP.

sprout · 07/05/2003 10:04

I'm 35 at the end of the month, work full time (well, 90%, but it feels like full time), married to German dh (41) who is a SAHD, with dd just turned 3 and baby2 on the way for November. Live in Belgium. If anyone who knows me puts together my recent posts they'll easily guess my identity (MiriamW, I'm sure you have by now anyway - good luck with the caesarian this week!).

Bozza · 07/05/2003 10:09

Agree with oxocube Anais - I had certainly noted your absence. Where've you been?

Demented · 07/05/2003 10:30

Anais good to see you back! I asked about you on the new missing person's thread but it has gone so off topic you probably didn't even realise it was a missing person's thread!

Seen as I am here I am 27, my DH is 31, DS1 4 and DS2 11 months. We live in Scotland.

Jaybee · 07/05/2003 11:15

Hi, my family consists of me (37), dh (36), ds(9) and dd (6), also have 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 1 budgie and goldfish (yes I am a sucker) - we live in Northamptonshire and I work fulltime in Milton Keynes. GillW, sounds like you may be quite near me!

Mum2Toby · 07/05/2003 11:18

Oh I forgot to give my pets a mention! We have 3 gold fish and a very cheeky house rabbit, who chews our walls!
I want a rat, but dp isn't too keen. I'll just turn up with it one day and he'll soon have to get used to it.

DP and I both work full-time whilst ds goes to private nursery. There, I think that's enough info for anyone to work out ho I am.

Oooooh.... can I come?? Is it a themed party?? What time????

Oops - am I coming across as too keen?

Crystaltips - you bring dessert!

judetheobscure · 07/05/2003 11:43

I'm 38, dp 41, dd 7, dss 5, 3 & 1. Want one more.
Interests - sport, men who play sport, especially rugby.
Lives LB Bromley (yes - stereotypical middle-class sahm)

megg · 07/05/2003 11:50

I'm 35, dp also 35 with a ds who is 3.5. I live in Portsmouth (not far from Breeze) but I come from York and dp is from Sunderland so we're hoping to move up north when he's finished his time in the Navy although we're planning on emigrating if dp ever gets his finger out and gets moving. Nettie I love ice hockey as well, used to go and see it all the time when I lived in Peterborough many moons ago. Are the Steelers still as good?

nettie · 07/05/2003 12:18

Megg, Steelers still going strong, won league this year! Don't get to go as much now have DS's. DS1 loved going as a baby/toddler, took him a couple of months ago and both he (5 years) and DS2 (15 months) screamed their head of off at the noise! So it looks like its time to find a good babysitter. At the moment I'm trying to remember to video the NHL stuff on ch.5. Sorry to highjack the thread with Ice Hockey but don't khow any one else that into it, maybe should start a new thread!

Hughsie · 07/05/2003 12:48

I'm 33 until Sunday (what a lot of taurean mumsnetters there are!) DH is 34 and ds1 is 2, ds2 is 9 weeks also a cat who has slipped down the pecking order considerably! Live in Manchester and work part time (mat leave until Oct/Nov)

Jaybee · 07/05/2003 12:50

nettie - I used to live in Peterborough too - did you go to school there?

northernlass1 · 07/05/2003 12:54

hey Megg

I used to live in Peterborough too 1991 - 1994.
Where do you want to emigrate and why? Just asking cause we're in v similar situation with dh in forces and wondering whether to retire.

Jaybee · 07/05/2003 13:00

Sorry my last message should have been to Megg not nettie!!

dot1 · 07/05/2003 13:30

Hello!

I'm 34 and dp (who's also a woman - although I think most mumsnetters know this by now!) is 33. We've got 1 ds who's 17 months - dp had him and now I'm trying for baby no. 2! We'd like at least 1 more - maybe two..?! We live in North West London, although I'm trying to get a job in Manchester at the moment - that's where we're both from - so that the grandparents can do lots more babysitting!

Likes: Buffy (I know it's really sad that that's the first thing that springs to mind!), holidays (there's never enough of them) and chocolate

Dislikes: most veg. and fruit - hard when you're trying to diet!, spiders (although trying not to pass this phobia on to ds!) and having to work

Mum2Toby · 07/05/2003 13:36

Hey dot1 - I must be VERY slow!! I hadn't clicked onto that at all!

WedgiesMum · 07/05/2003 13:57

M2t - get a rat! Jerry Mouse (spelt R-A-T) is loverley, and great with my kids. (sorry it's a while ago you said this am just catching up in lunch break). And he's great for keeping your neck warm on cold winter evenings....

mammya · 07/05/2003 14:13

Thanks Claireandrich
Edgarcat, can I come to your virtual party on Friday? How does that work then?

lilibet · 07/05/2003 16:10

Hello, I'm age 40 (just, another May baby), have a b/f who is 29, dd 14, ds's 9 and 6. Come from the N/W. 2 Cats and no mice spelt R A T. I do wonder why we don't use names and then one of the first things that is asked when a baaby arrives is "what's it called?"!

dot1 · 07/05/2003 16:32

Mum2Toby - lol!!!!! (wish I could do smiley faces!)
