Just been out on my lunch break (working in the newsroom today) and it's like walking in an oven. I shall be glad to get home to the shade of my apple tree.

Berrie · 29/06/2009 13:02

Tis a warm'un not always sunny here though.

oggsfrog · 29/06/2009 15:45

"...in one study 5 million midges were collected from an area of only two square metres"

"According to research, a swarm can inflict about 3,000 bites in an hour, while 40,000 midges can land on an unprotected arm over the same period"

OP posts:
Berrie · 29/06/2009 16:01

Are the sprays a waste of money then or is it just midges that are immune to them?

oggsfrog · 29/06/2009 18:15

Not so much immune, as that the sheer numbers of midges renders any deterrent useless.

Blardy sticky here too. Maybe I should take the tent and my four men off somewhere on the coast to cool down. Honestly, you lot and your grubby minds!

I thought I'd try this one for my first night's trial under canvas - without DS!

oggsfrog · 29/06/2009 18:48

Looks lovely Zeb

Berrie · 29/06/2009 19:24

Treen is our favourite campsite in the whole world. We have been many times!

I do hope you will climb down to the nuddy beach

You can also get a lovely breakfast at the post office. They did also do Roskilly's, stocking goosberry but I've a feeling they are all little tubs now.

I am sooooooo jealous.
We got engaged while camping there, deciding to get married in Cornwall. Ahhh happy days!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 29/06/2009 20:13

I must definitely go there then. It has the Berrie Badge of Approval. Nuddy beach, eh? Surely not in Cornwall!

Berrie · 29/06/2009 21:01

The campsite is nothing special having said all that, it's the surroundings that are divine. (Spidery toilets, farmer's field.) Fabulous lagoon on the nudist beach, bit of a climb down though. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I shall be disappointed if I hear that you did not go down and strip off!

Berrie · 29/06/2009 21:04

Bloody hell! Dd is asleep on the landing again. Crazy child! She really has not setttled since the holiday! I keep nearly falling over her - one does not expect a child asleep like a log on the landing.

oggsfrog · 30/06/2009 07:18

Aw! Is she wanting to be close to you?

Still no passport...

OP posts:
ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 30/06/2009 08:03

when you read that someone's been arrested for indecent exposure, that'll be me.

When do you need the passport by? Is there any way of chasing it?

oggsfrog · 30/06/2009 08:52

We're due to fly next Thursday....

The lady at the post office said to look out for my old passport and papers being returned first, then a few days later the new passport would follow.
So far nothing.

I have a tracking number so I'll look into chasing it today, although they do say to allow a minimum of two weeks before any chasing can be done.

Ho hum.

OP posts:
Berrie · 30/06/2009 09:38

Yikes...that's cutting it fine

Zeb, you'll not see many policemen down there. You will be quite safe!

Berrie · 30/06/2009 09:44

Does the postman come before you leave on Thursday?

oggsfrog · 30/06/2009 14:12

It's next Thursday, not this one, and luckily it's an evening flight (the postman comes about 2pm).

How did the cleaner get on?

Zeb, who are you camping with? Apart from the four as yet unidentified men...

What are you up to today Lyra?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 30/06/2009 14:29

Swoosh! Just checked and both our passports were passed for print yesterday, so the nice young man said we can expect them any day
Whew! That is such a relief. The prospect of having to rearrange the whole trip was not one I was looking forward to.

OP posts:
Berrie · 30/06/2009 14:38

Swoosh was just what I was thinking!

LyraSilvertongue · 30/06/2009 15:45

Been busy today. Sports day in the morning (I was busily dashing back and forth between the reception sports and the year 2 sports and missing most of it). I did take part in the parents' egg and spoon race. There was lots of cheating going on but our class won.
This afternoon it was open afternoon for parents to go into the children's classes and look at their work, and take them home early.
I've barely been in the house the last two days and it's an utter tip.
Good news about the passports Oggs. Looks like your efforts won't have been in vain after all.

LyraSilvertongue · 30/06/2009 15:45

I mean the parents cheated (holding the egg on the spoon and sprinting), not the children .

oggsfrog · 30/06/2009 16:57

Tsk, tsk!

I bet you had real eggs didn't you? We had to make do with golf balls

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 30/06/2009 17:54

No, red plastic eggs. One of the mums dropped it and it split in half and a (fake) fried egg popped out. From then on it was impossible to balance on the spoon without stopping and reconstructing it. That's my excuse, anyway

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 30/06/2009 19:11

Crikey! That's a relief Oggs!

Ain't no-one camping but me the first time. Then DS - first off for one night to see how it goes....

Lyra, I'm sure you didn't cheat at all, now did you?

LyraSilvertongue · 30/06/2009 20:52

I did, I did! I held that plastic egg!
