Camomilla · 26/05/2009 14:50

Oh, poor DS, DS is only getting better now at nearly 5 with having his hair cut, and will only let my local (back home) hairdresser do it (only time he went to the barber down the road here he came back looking as if it'd done it himself but he wouldn't stop crying so they couldn't finish the job.

veeeeeeeeery windy here, and cooler after it's rained all night. and tomorrow we're having our gas turned off at 8am (they're replacing pipes in the whole area and moving meters outside).

Rosa, I was a wreck when I picked DS up from his last day at nursery/preschool last year, one of the teacher didn't even come out, they all had teary eyes... and being 8 months pg didn't help I guess....

francagoestohollywood · 26/05/2009 19:44

I'm always in tears when they move up on the school/institutionalization ladder You should have seen me at ds' christmas show 1 week before leaving the uk!

It's cooling down here (by 3 degrees but not in our house

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 12:26

So yesterday we finally bought this house, as well as enrolling DD in her new school.
Why is it I feel more stressed out than ever
At least it really is cooler today.

Gio (or anyone) you are officially invited to come up and splash in our pool Seriously, You can get the (air conditioned!) train out here and I'll pick you up at the station, we have a spare car seat.

Rosa · 27/05/2009 14:23

HURRAH HURRAH - Congratulations to you for your new house that is wonderful news all you have to do now is furnish , re decorate and then pay for it all ....Joking apart I am so very pleased for your and .
Its blowing a hurricane round here no joking the wind is really strong- its blown the clouds away I went to get dd from school 30 mins earlier ( along with about another 5 mums) as it looked as black as anything and you could see lampi in the distance.
As for your pool offer thanks but its a bit far for me ......

Camomilla · 27/05/2009 15:41

just popping in while the butter melts for Brange's banana loaf.... have to sit down, my legs are aching so much from doing one of the routines from the Davina's super workout dvd last night... am obviously very unfit, though not too bad considering I must have done 100 + squats (played one session twice by mistake) while trying to pay attention to DS who thinks he's some kind of bruce lee, constantly going on about having "bubbles" on his stomach (actually, he's obsessed with looking "cool" all the time, getting a bit worried), he was wearing jersey trousers, no top and a string on his head , DP calls him travolta, as he looked a bit like john t in staying alive

Sputnik congratulations!! how exciting, a new house!! when are you moving in?

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 15:51

Sputnik, congratulations on your new house (and life... yes, I think I'd be quite stressed too!!!). If I were Gio I'd take the train tomorrow and visit you, before it's too late. When is the move? September?

Camo at your John Tavolta son . I bet he is uber cool . Ds and his friends don't seem bothered by being cool, but are obsessed in anything sport related, which means having to listen to him talking about football all day long [hmm[... it's exhausting, trust me!

Rosa at thunderstorm. It's a bit breezier here, but still quite hot. argh!

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 17:17

Thaks everyone
Rosa you are too right, but at least we have the summer to fix it up. Not too much work but we have to knock down a bit of wall, repaint, and mount the kitchen. As for furnishing, I think we'll be sitting on cardboard boxes for the next year!

I am very annoyed actually, as we were forced to shell out for mortgage insurance which ought to cover being unemployed, just that it doesn't as I'm freelance and DH is on a fixed term contract. So total waste of money.

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 20:41

Sput, we used to have 2 inflatable poltrone in our first flat in the UK, I'd recommend those

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 20:42

have you got new projects on that addictive design website?

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 21:16

wELL, SINCE oops you asked..... I re-did the living room project as we thought it would be good to knock down the waist high wall dividing the kitchen and living room here and here. And the bedroom is here then when I get bored here.

Plus if you look on my profile there's all the fantasy stuff I've done for fun.

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 21:21

ooooooooh I approve Sputnik ! I think the living room/kitchen with the table in between works really well!

ps: which profile?

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 21:23

ups, yes, your profile... got it!

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 21:24

Should be here.
If that doesnt work there should be a link to the left on the rooms.

It has rained here, hallelujah! How's Milano?

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 21:25

oh wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 21:28

I want the playroom!

It's freshen up a lot! Very windy (coldish)

Rosa, what about sticky venice?

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 21:34

Actually it's thundering now, I might have to unplug the modem as we often get struck by lightening. Have burnt out loads of modems, plus bits of computers.

If I could build that playroom, but with a soundproof transparent wall it would be ideal

francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2009 21:38

Gosh yes, totally!

Camomilla · 27/05/2009 22:04

oooooooooohhhhh, Sputnik, I like the playroom and the breakfast bedroom, and the garden...

Sputnik · 27/05/2009 22:25

Thanks! I've had a lot of fun doing those. We can dream....

Rosa · 28/05/2009 10:46

not so sticky today drop of about 6 degrees fresh breeze for now so enjoying it whilst it lasts ..we went to see a house yesterday...another one bites the dust !!!!

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2009 14:00

Yes, it's quite pleasant here as well.
So Rosa, how was the house?

italyhereicome · 28/05/2009 14:12

Hi Little Italy mumsnetters, wonder if you can help??

I am going to be an au pair in near Genoa in two weeks for a year, and wondered how easy it is to get Microgynon30 out there?
Should I try and get a years prescription from my GP here in the UK before I go, or get 6 months and get another prescription out there?

If I do that, how much will it cost?

TIA

Rosa · 28/05/2009 14:19

I think you will find that it might have a different name but generally most medicines are duplicated all over - I would just bring the packet with you and show to a local doctor who will give a prescription. You will need to resister as a temporary resident in Italy and you will get given a 'prescription' booklet which will entitle you to have EEC equvalent treatment just bring a copy of your E111 and then your employer should be able to help you with all the fine points.

Franca the flat was described as only needing finishing so it had wiring, plumbing etc - true it was a shell . It was 1st floor with a view of 2 buildings one in front and 1 behind ! stirs went up to a entrata salotto - quite small. Large kitchen off that with a bagno ( no windows but again a good size) I largish double room off the tiny salotto and one small twin at the back . 1 sotto scala and one scabuzino they say it was 130m ...NO way I live in 110 and ours is bigger than that. Pity as we had got quite excited.....

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2009 14:31

Hello ItalyhereIcome, I think rosa gave you the right advise . I'm afraid i don't have a clue as to how much your medication will be here. How much do you pay in the uk? I find that in general medicines are a bit cheaper in the Uk, but I could be wrong

Rosa, that's disappointing. Do you want a room for each dds? or could you know one wall down and have a bigger salotto? Also no view, I can see it can be very disappointing in magnificent Ve!!!
