Ciao, welcome!

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 08/06/2009 14:40

thanks everyone. franca, the schools would be in french, no way i can live with schooling my dds in a fourth language (we already have english, italian and german at home) so we'd have to send them private. and private schools in the land of chocs and watches are even more expensive than in London (not to mention dd1 just got accepted in the nursery attached to our local outstanding RC- whcih gives us very good chances she'll get into reception next year).

i can't ski

and it's only child friendly because women are positively discouraged from working (schools break between 11.30 and 2 everyday!!! so the kids can go home to have lunch slavishly lovingly prepared by their mums)

can you tell i don't want to go

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 08/06/2009 14:41

think she meas that other country that speaks that language...but just as dull as the one you mentioned..

ciao sputnik..

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 08/06/2009 14:42

oh god, you do mean that country.....

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/06/2009 14:51

MM oh no! Dh and I were in this predicament 2 and a half years ago when he wanted to move... only outside London! Do you remember McM and Franca? I know how you feel and what's going on inside you and in the house. It was quite an awful athmosphere tbh. I had the same reasons as yourself.
Luckily for us DH's reasons were not so strong and mainly based on what we could/could not afford in London. Once I showed him what we could afford and the reality of living in the middle of nowhere we returned to normal. Very very tough.

So how this sudden 'idea'? Surely he knows how you feel. Why is he so stubborn? or is he?

I hate BT. Wasted one and a half hour with them!!!

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 14:54

McC I didn't dare to raise the dullness point, but since you started... yes it is dull.
And if you'll have to pay for private there is no point surely?

And I didn't know schools stop at eleven. Wtf? What is the women employment rate there? Is it worse than Italy? [shck]

Have to go, dd demands attention. She's just beaten me all'allegro chirurgo!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/06/2009 14:57

...you could be heidi ...

trying to cheer you up MM.

dwhile I was screaming at the BT idiot lady poor DD2 fell from sofa and now has got a bump on her forehead... will she be ok?

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 15:27

Oh yes, I remember when you were in that predicament pippi .

Sputnik · 08/06/2009 15:27

MM, I can totally see your point, if my DH continues working for the same organisation we will be compulsorarily relocated in 4 year's time. And it would be to a developing country. I am trying to keep an open mind about the prospect and not automatically reject it.

How about proposing you go for a trial year? Can you really exclude being able to get work there?

Sputnik · 08/06/2009 15:29

Are you sure your DH's new employer wouldn't pay for education btw? Or rent for that matter, there are lots of perks for expats.

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 15:44

I think most people would agree that the quality of life is really high in cucu' land. It's safe, clean, great outdoors, great schools (both state and private), in the middle of Europe, so everything is at your doorstep... etc.

But yes, having experienced that and having suffered because of it, it's hard to rebuild a life. So I really feel for you, having to make this decision. It is a good destination, but I feel your pain.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/06/2009 17:26

if you came to London before meeting DH and ad your life established independently of him I agree it is very hard to leave all that behind to go somewhere new where everything is 'about him'.

Why so suddenly?

gio71 · 08/06/2009 18:00

LOL at Goodfella style fantasies about Berlusca-no such luck am afraid. Would be nice to think was some kind of justice waiting for Bush and Blair as well but since Blair seems to be earning zillions thank you very much on the lecture circuit while sniggering behind hand at Brown it seems a long way off. Am with what has become of the Labour party and how they have chipped away at any goodwill from the Iraq war onwards.
MM am sorry re your predicament. We have a family friend from there and the quality of life does sound amazing. But guess that doesnt matter when means you have to uproot when you don't want to. I hope you reach a decision you are both comfortable with.

Camomilla · 08/06/2009 20:03

MM, why the move? has he got a new job, or does he just want to move there? anyway, he can't take you away, we haven't had our london meetup yet . hope you manage to change his mind!

oh, DD's crying, better go, she's got a cold again and not had any milk tonight...

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/06/2009 20:44

yep... new job... i told him he has to do the sums and demonstrate me nero su bianco that we'd have a much better life there... we'll see.

sono rassegnata, but still upset...

sorry i am not participating much...

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/06/2009 20:45

what do you mean rassegnata???? Is there no choice? Can he not take the job?
MM talk to us please?!

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 20:50

Come rassegnata? Has he lost his job in London? Or is it just a career move?

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 08/06/2009 21:00

Goodess, we all have complicated lives.

Watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly tonight...anyone seen it?

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 21:02

No, never even heard of it. What is it?

Penthesileia · 08/06/2009 21:05

Oh god, not seen it but read it. So depressing.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 08/06/2009 21:07

A French magazine editor suffers a massive stroke and is unable to move, except for his eyelid; so he blinks out his story to his amanuensis. And dies.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 08/06/2009 21:10

Rassegnata? Oh, MM, why? Is it a done deal?

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 08/06/2009 21:11

lo scafandro e la farfalla franca.

no he's not lost his job- new, juicy offer.

dd2 screaming at the top of her lungs- it's a conspiracy, i just can't post on MN!!!

buonanotte, will keep you posted

Penthesileia · 08/06/2009 21:12

Hope DD2 is ok. See you later, MM. Buona notte.

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 08/06/2009 21:16

Mm come back when you can please. hugs.

francagoestohollywood · 08/06/2009 21:18

ah! lo scafandro e la farfalla, ok. Thanks MM.

Masseuse, I'm really thorn as to what to suggest.
I moved to the UK to follow my dh and I really suffered for having left my friends and my city (less for my job: I stupidly thought I'd have the guts to change my life around ). If you are a very sociable person it is very hard to live in a place with no friends.

On the other hand you also sound very in gamba and full of initiatives. I wouldn't be surprised if you found another job in a short time.
And we could meet on the sky slopes
