MM - you sound amazing.

Yes, dead sea salts are from the Dead Sea!

Oh yes, let's all rant about our DPs!!!!

LOL @ Umberto Eco! DH does have a beard, but is a little bit younger! I wish though. Isn't old Eco loaded because he secured the largest ever royalty percentage on his books, or something?

francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2009 20:22

TheMysticMasseuse · 13/05/2009 20:24

have mental image of dd1 as a mini masseuse. white gown, german accent (which she's got anyway) and a good way with her wrists.

now, that has cheered me up and Ocado, of course, i looooove Ocado!

Popping in- busy day made cake for domani / the festa at nido) and bribed dd not to help with a chuppa and cartoons - ( such a bad mummy ) A chuppa in my house is very rare. Minirosa had a jab so was a grumpy sod from about 4 pm, onwards and wouldnt't lie , play , sleep.
DH not listening nah never happens in my house . Dh not picking his clothes up , ma quando mai? DH doing any form of cleaning apart from the odd washing up...Oh every day .
RighT I am knackered for want of another expression . To add to the nido thread I love my nido here and will be very sad when I have no more children to send there. We have had 2 incontri so far and a 3rd will be happening in a few weeks.

Ok moan over , my Gavin & Stacey DVD arrived today so am going to have nice, cosy evening watching that on mini dvd player while dp dominates the tv again with the coppa italia!

gio71 · 13/05/2009 20:34

if I can concentrate with him screaming insults at Lazio like the true Romanista he is

Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:36

I will begin the rant.

My DH just cannot stop himself buying more and more books. Only this week, has has spent about £1500!!!!!! Money we don't have at the moment, I hasten to add.

As I said, most of the time, I don't care. We're solvent enough most of the time; it gives him pleasure (he needs the retail therapy, believe it or not); I like having books about (hey, it's my job too). Etc. But just in a bloody while I wish he could just resist. Every time a catalogue drops through the door, I know we're going to be considerably poorer by the end of the day.

The biggest problem I have with it is not the money, in fact, but the lack of space, and general chaos the huge piles of books everywhere leaves us in. Our house has basically been made uninhabitable, hence our need to move to massive house in the village.

And he will never stop. It is an addiction, but one he feels weirdly pious about (after all, it's not like he's buying shoes or booze - they're books - precious items of knowledge, etc. Grrr).

Arrrrggghhh.

And breathe........

Rosa, ds is doing much better, back to his cheerful self. Only problem is that he now talks about sodding football all day.

Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:38

Grammar and typing all over the place there. Sorry!

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 13/05/2009 20:38

liver big success, she had it for dinner last night, and lunch and dinner today, she might have it tomorrow as well, poverina, thing is she likes it, nobody else does though, so she can stuff her face...yuk! i bought loads for some stupid reason!

Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:39

LOL at your message, Rosa! Nicely done! Notte!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:40

Wow @ your DD liking liver, McCloud!!! I'm with the others on this one - yuck!

OP posts:
McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 13/05/2009 20:41

i love your dh! are they italian books? on a specific subject? are they photography books by any chance? i thought i bought books, but 1500 pounds worth of books is ehm quite a bit. [curiosona emoticon]

anyway if it is a problem you need to sit down and decide a budget.

francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2009 20:43

Does he at least read them?

Dh is getting on my nerves because he doesn't understand the Milanese housing market...

Gio, I've always been of your ability to work with your ds around. I think you are brilliant! And lol at lazio

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 13/05/2009 20:45

i don't eat it, by the way.
I suspect babies might like it because it is quite sweet.
I always remember being told by my mum that small children need liver once a week, one of her mad convictions, but I am going to tell my kids the same.

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 13/05/2009 20:46

no way this guy reads soooo many books! or does he? is he part of his job maybe?

Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:48

Italian, French, English, German, you name it. Not photography (art books sometimes, though). Usually books related to his/our line of work.

The £1500 comes from the fact that 50% of that are 2 sets of rare editions (16th & 18th century books).

He does read them (although some of them are not exactly books you read cover to cover, IYSWIM - editions of texts, etc.).

We talk about it a lot, and he always sheepishly agrees, and apologises. But then the next unmissable catalogue comes through, with long lists of rare books. It's got a competitive edge to it too, in a way - he has to call the seller asap to make sure he gets in there first...

What doesn't your husband understand, franca?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2009 20:49

mmmm Mc, do you remember when we used to speculate over your partner's job? I think we need to investigate Mr Penthe.

gio71 · 13/05/2009 20:51

i cant even get my ds to eat meat at the moment let alone offal!
DP is getting on my nerves for that age old reason of non appreciation! I am stressed with work and trying to juggle work, ds, childminder who's often not around, house, shopping blah blah. DP goes to work for 9.30, finishes at 6, comes home, eats his primo secondo, loads the dishwasher at least and never ever seems to show any idea that I find it bloody hard work doing it all, all the time!
Breathe!
Franca what doe dh not understand re housing market?
Penthe your DH sounds fab but needs his credit cards cutting up
