Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 31/03/2009 14:15

Well, the survey basically said that the house was structurally sound, but that - because of its age - it needed A LOT of TLC, basically plastic-surgery for houses. We can live in it as it is, possibly for decades (so we've been told), it just wouldn't be very nice or super-comfortable, you see.

We'll probably hire a chap we#ve consulted who does old house restoration for a living.

No interior pics, but will see if I can find the floor plan jpeg.

Argh - got to go - DD has woken from her nap.

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 14:19

did you not see that I got (punti dell'esselunga) a hair drier that supposedly liscia i capelli. going to try it now.

'later

gsdfkjsfglkgsflkfghsd`lksfg

The presa doesn't work, it's one of those gfklgsjklgfskjlgfs german ones. So I now how completely frizzy hair. I look like a mushroom

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 14:33

and my beautiful, trusted skinny jeans have a hole in the knee.

Brangelina · 31/03/2009 14:46

Lol, get the piastre instead. I for once wasn't taken in by the promise of liscia-ness.

Do you not have an adaptor for the German plug? Not even on your hoover/kettle/microwave/whatever other modern appliance you have. None of my appliances have an Italian plug so we have a houseful of adaptors.

Brangelina · 31/03/2009 14:47

Lol at the mushroom hair, mine's like a ciuffio do carota as I went to bed with wet hair last night (am not a fan of phon).

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 14:54

Wow wow wow Penthe, what a beautiful house!
My Mum taught in the school in that village for years, small world eh? I actually grew up in the place with the mega Tesco a few miles north. Haven't been back there for years though as my parents are in Wales now.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 15:00

If penthe sounds like those people in GD viggo you sounded like McLeod himself !!!

we should do an amatorial version of GD - the MNLIGD! Can I be the builder?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 15:00

was thinking to hire a face painter for a party - oh my oh my aren't they expensive?!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 15:01

will do it myself.

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 15:02

Get an adapter woman!

Penthe, paint over the wall paper in the rooms you use the most, then stop and give yourself time to think about how you'd like it. Not being able to restore straight away is an advantage from that point of view. We lived with horrendous bathrooms in this house for years, but it gave me a long time to think about how I wanted them and was pleased in the end with what we did.

God you lucky bugger

Brangelina · 31/03/2009 15:04

Viggo - just read your running thread. I don't know what these people do but I lose loads of weight by running even at 20 mins x 3 times a week. I don't change my eating habits either, although when you exercise regularly you do tend to go for healthier foods without realising it.

One American girl here who was quite chubby lost about 15 kilos by running 30 mins a day for about a month and a half. What she did was quite drastic though and she did look a bit "tirata". Still, everything is possibile, I'd do alternate days and add a little weight training to your regime as running tends to burn muscle as well as fat and you need to keep your muscle tone up. You may not lose loads but you will tone up, your legs will get slimmer and you'll get fitter.

Brangelina · 31/03/2009 15:05

Agree with Sputnik, sometimes living in a place for a while gives you a better idea of what suits it and what you need.

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 15:17

And I agree with Brange re the exercise, do a bit of weight work (I like bodyweight exercises) for real toning effect and muscle building, which will raise your metabolism.

If only I could apply this myself, I have just been feeling so crappy the last few months.

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 15:22

Wow it must be a day for new houses, just heard our mortgage has been approved so we can go ahead with the compromesso for our new apt.

Hoping my stress levels will decrease a bit now!

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 15:22

This household used to be full of all sorts of adaptors, but couldn't find one today. It's like a petardo exploded in my hair, now.

I wish I had the stamina to run.

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 15:24

Wow Sputnik, great news! Congratulations

So, we now have two projects. A house in the country. A flat in a capital city. We do sound like relocation relocation relocation.

Brangelina · 31/03/2009 15:29

Brilliant news Sputnik! So, do tell all, how many bedrooms, how many bathrooms and is there one of those terrazze that you see on the telly in fictions set in Rome?

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 15:38

Ha ha ha.
Don't watch said fictions but I assume you don't mean a small balcony which widens out just about enough for a small table?

It has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths (one actually with a window!), tiny study and living room/kitchen. So pretty small and kids will be sharing unless we extend the study room by taking something off the bathoom. However I can't complain as we are keeping on our current house which is quite roomy and has a porch with a view over half of Lazio!

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 15:40

Even part of Tuscany on a clear day

Rosa · 31/03/2009 15:56

No time to type will try to catch up later Congrats on the house purchases lets see if I can be the third ( I was with the babies - Pippi, Viggo and then me )
Brange keep coming back
AM so happy ( not) ordered seem clothes for minirosas battesimo on sat to be sent to GP house so they could bring out - they have cancelled my order fo rpossible security - no phone call or verification just cancelled - I call customer services she did all the I am sorry but was toally useless and I am clothless for sat - Can't even wear my mat suff as it is summer and sportivo I am really and don't know what to do.
I have tried here but I am such the wrong shape that nothing fits !

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 16:05

sounds ideal sputnik, especially having a big house in the beautiful laziale countyside. I think it helped with our move having the dc share their bedroom, it made them feel safer, imo.

Rosa oh no re the dress . I'd be very upset.

Sputnik · 31/03/2009 16:17

Bugger about the clothes. Is there anywhere that can do next day delivery? When are they leaving? I had a company cancel an order like that on me once, without telling me. It was DD's b'day present, luckily she was only 1 at the time, but still.

Franca, well that's kind of correct except 1) I killed all my plants, 2) I never ever wear white and 3) have no idea what Incantesimo is so no need for embarassment!

Our view is fairly vertigo inducing though, and generally enchanting. We have a lounger, and one day I may actually get to lounge in it.

Right, I'm turning off the computer, I have done a deal with DD, she will get off the Playhouse Disney site if I get off MN.

beforesunrise · 31/03/2009 18:51
