Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/03/2009 22:27

oink? pink!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 19/03/2009 22:29

LOL @ oink palate!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 19/03/2009 22:36

franca sometimes it looks as if we have been living the same childhood: I was very envious of stupid compagne di scuola elementare with oink apparecchio. so I cannot tell you how excited I was to get it. then I put it on... and realised for the fist time how true is the all said ' be careful what you wish for'. I hated it so much and felt so stupid that when my mum dropped me off at school late that first day with oink thing I could not face opening the class door and having to say 'scusi per il ritardo' with that thing in front of everybosy so... I turn back and run away ! my mum had to come and pick me up in lacrime from the negozzietto across the road.

Penthesileia · 19/03/2009 22:47

Oh, poor young Pippi! Childhood can be so hard - I am already worrying about DD! I remember I didn't tell anyone for ages that I was struggling to read the blackboard because I needed glasses, and instead started being naughty to cover up, and my marks began to slip - which was a big deal, as I was a big swot/smarty-pants, even at 7...

I was LOL-ing at the "oink" palate not because of any intrinsic amusement factor (there is none), but because of the "oink" pig sound - I hope you understand. I was not mocking younger Sunflowers & Pippis & francas!!!!

Penthesileia · 19/03/2009 22:48

OK. Off to read now.

Ciao ciao, all.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/03/2009 22:59

penthe, that's why I laughed! when I first spotted my typo! and I did the same thing about the blackboard...

notte penthe

francagoestohollywood · 20/03/2009 08:43

Oh pippi, you poor thing

Yes, I think my childhood was punctuated by minor accidents that to me were incredibly traumatic. Even getting the coffee for my teacher from the vending machine put me in a state of anxiety !

I have a laid back morning ahead of me. Dd is home as there is an assemblea sindacale at her nursery school. We only need to go to the supermarket at some stage. I'll work in the afternoon.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 20/03/2009 09:39

penthe yes I know it was the oink thing you were laughing about. you can laugh at the thing itself as well. it was so laughably horrible imo. I wish now I had a fixed one, as I am not great at will power.

must tidy up.

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 13:12

OMG all those protesi! I never had a brace, despite desperately wanting one when I was about 9. I used to be really jealous of other kids with a full metal mouth, I wasn't interested in the more subtle oink plate. Then we came to the UK and my desire for a brace waned as no one seemed to have them. OMG at the baffo! What a horrendous contraption.

What's this busto for scoliosi? I've never seen it. Do they really make children wear that? Have I been living in a bubble? I remember someone wearing calipers at night but never saw a busto.

To compensate I'm shortsighted and have to wear glasses or lenses all the time. I remember my mum once standing on my extremely ugly NHS pair and having to fix them hurriedly with brown parcel tape so I could use them for school the next day. I looked a right nutter, especially as I also had a moustache that my mum told me would just fall off by itself. That scarred me so much a spent the next few years squinting at the blackboard instead of wearing my glasses.

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 13:15

I think I have tonsilitis too today, I've got a temp and a really sore throat that keeps coming back. I've had a recurrent sore throat all winter now, as well as a dry cough that reappears every time I exert myself. My immune system must be shot to pieces. Oh well, at least DD is hardly ever sick, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 20/03/2009 13:32

all my simpathies, brange! hope you get better soon! ice cream is great, not too sweet though...

and I really envied metal-free smiles... I was the only one too...

Brange gargle with that Oki stuff its fab . DD1 has a dry cough again so dug out the humidifer which I have just cleaned and put away. She ahd a bit of a rabbia crisi again today but no sign of jaws ! Yesterday ( sorry to go back ) at the school meeting we were told that there is a group of children who are doing this psicometria thing every week and they are being observed and documented then the parents will be invited for an incontro . DD is one of them and maybe she is having a few problems with it . They said that some children might have some difficulties with it and we might see some differences.... Anyway I have said that if she has any more I want to know about it as they are out of character . I want to know more about this psicio cosa wotzit ... As I can't spell it anybody fancy finding me some links ???
MY BUG IS HERE ....... I have managed to put the wheels on so far but dd1 wants to help so I made the box into a train and we played trains up and down the corridor instead !

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 13:51

How exciting, a new pushchair to assemble. I used to love the smell of new pushchairs, but then I'm probably a bit weird.

What's this Oki stuff? Do they have it in the farmacia?

Sunflower - this is proof that having your tonsils out is no guarantee.

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 13:54

I find you do have to ask a lot more at nursery as no one seems to tell you things spontaneously. Other mums used to ask how ofen their child pooed or if they ate, but I was the only one to ask if DD was getting on OK or if she was happy. I still always got told the consistency of her poos though.

Now at materna I get even less info, apart from è brava e mangia tutto.

Rosa · 20/03/2009 14:04

OKI yes its from the farmacia DH gets terrible throats and he swares by it last thing at night and during if needed. I think you might be able to get a OKI spray as well.
We get a tabella up re the poo / merenda and what they did . Today I had to ask if she was ok . SO then they told me . DD told me she was sad again today for her sad = crying and even getting cross.
I have managed to swing the seat round but can't get the side bits to slot in . this yellow jumper lady on the instruction DVD is getting right on my tits ....... ( The bug has only been pushed round the house but the wheels are already dirty ho hum ho hum maybe I need to mop the floor !

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 14:06

You have an instruction DVD? Now that is a posh pushchair! I only got a manky bit of paper with mine, and mine wasn't that cheap.

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 14:07

I will pop out to the farmacia in a bit. I'm no good at sprays as always manage to miss my throat, so it'll probably be the gargle.

beforesunrise · 20/03/2009 14:11

hey people! how are you?

all good here, our skiing holiday was exhausting, dd1 throwing mosnter tantrums, dd2 learned to crawl... but i am recovered now more or less.

we are not getting any sleep in the sunrise house, so mumsnet in the evening is out of the question

what's new here?

Rosa · 20/03/2009 14:18

Sunflower and franca have new cars
I have a new buggy Minirosa has had green poo problems.
Penthe is annoyed with some threads on MN and needs moral support
Sputnik is designing her new house
GIo is eating Pesce Spada at the sea side and we are all jealous.
Brange went to Paris and only spent Eu20
Pippi, Javier and Franca read lots and generally we are having a happy thread !!!
DId ds have tantrums as he couldn't do it ?? Well done on the crawling are you having to safety proof everything. DD1 has pulled all the cotton padding off the corners / sharp edges here so will have to re do sooner or later.

Bucharest · 20/03/2009 14:20

Oooh, here you are! Let me catch you while you're still on active convos......I keep getting far too embroiled in contentious threads with my reduced MN time.....(ahem Jade effing Goody this morning of all people)

Let me get back some sanity with you girls....

How is MiniRosa? Is she better? Hope everyone else is well....I'm loving my mini-job at the scuola media but the computer updating stuff on the site is making me tear my hair out....still....ah well.

I've got an appt for my gallbladder scan- but not till end of April so will probably go and pay someone next week to do it. Fed up of eating rice. (in bianco)

Hideous party at ludoteca last night. BadBucharest had to take the initiative with some divilspawn children - 3 boys- beating up on dd.....I told one "se ti vedo vicino a mia figlia di nuovo ti porto fuori sotto la pioggia senza le scarpe" the second one "ho parlato con la tua maestra e lei va a dire tutto questo al direttore domani" (he came off lightly) and the third one (who I had to physically pull off her) "se ti vedo di nuovo ti faccio sanguinare." But my god I felt better after. And I hope they have nightmares till they're in their teens about EvilFurrinMummy. They were vile.

My stendino has blown off the balcony this morning! Disgusting weather....

I had jam jar bottom glasses too....and went for the lenses as soon as I was able to decide for myself....

Going to backtrack the thread now....

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 20/03/2009 14:22

rosa perfect summary only correction is pippi would like to read a lot!

welcome back BS. so was the hol more stress than fun then? what's new?

I remember watching the dvd for the frog. I do not remember smell of new pram but to this day I remember the smell of a new bike.

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 14:24

Hi BS, welcome back. Did you find loads of good snow? Did you acually manage to get some skiing in yourself?

What has been going on here? I can't remember much at the moment as am delirious with febbre, but recent developments have been the use of torture-like protesi in childhood and adolescence (did you have a baffo too?), the Franca family getting rid of their Multipla, Rosa's got a new pushchair and minorosa's poos are back to mustard and Penthe is irritated by many an mn thread and stressed by her imminent house move.

Also, Sputnik's been very evil and introduced us to a decorate your ideal home site for us to waste even more time on (in my case anyway).

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 14:25

Aaargh! Far too slow. That'll teach me for answering the phone mid post.

Rosa's synopsis is much better.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 20/03/2009 14:26

buchares LOL at "se ti vedo vicino a mia figlia di nuovo ti porto fuori sotto la pioggia senza le scarpe" ... priceless!
liked the last one too... please do type that in english on a AIBU thread???

how old is your dd again?

Brangelina · 20/03/2009 14:27

Lol at se ti vedo di nuovo ti faccio sanguinare!

I also snarl at other people's children when they're being mean to DD. I try to do the crouch down and gently explain that it's not nice, but the look on my face gives away my true feelings and they run away.
