DD's materna statale has 1 teacher and 1 TA per class, albeit overlapping (ie one starts at 8 am till 1 pm, the other at 10 am till 4 or something like that). I thought that was the minimum for a class of 25 as there was this big thing about not taking on more children as not practicable with current staffing levels.

I'll have to ask leftie chainsmoking mum what's going on when I go and pick up DD. She's the school activist and is supposed to know everything.

You can also check on retescuole (leftie chainsmoking mum emoticon)

buonasera again, it's me checking in after a hard day;s work thanks for your messages last night, was sadly too tired to read them...

i hope to have a bit more stamina tonight!

all the snow has turned to slush here in my corner, a bit sad but a bloody relief too, as our road was a treacherous sheet of ice for 3 solid days- scandalous i think!

beforesunrise · 05/02/2009 19:09

btw i was just checking the latest mnet discount partner, Joules... looks like Boden, costs like Boden, but is if possible even more hideous.. what's going on here???

Sputnik · 05/02/2009 19:11

I can't believe that this thread has reached over 100 posts already, and I haven't even posted on it yet!

Tantik, nice to see you, was wondering how you were getting on. THe last few weeks of pg are the worst, I found, so look after yourself.

Franca I am sure you're not a bad mum! I know where you're coming from as DD was a crap sleeper as a baby and still needs company as she goes to sleep. She declares every night "but I don't want to go to sleep" to which I reply "that's ok DD, I know you dont. Just lie down and think of something nice". It's like a litany between us and 5 minutes later she's off. I would see what happens if you stay with your DS a bit, maybe go over his day a bit and see if anything crops up that might be bothering him. But then I am of the softie school of parenting.

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 20:11

Lol beforesunrise yes, I've just checked Joules out, and it is more hideous than Boden (I must say though that I like boden clothes for boys)

I hope I didn't give you the impression of throwing the dc into their beds and switch off the lights ! After teeth and pj both me and dh sit by their beds (taking it in turns, so one day I read to ds, the other to dd) and read them a book or a chapter of a book. Then we switch off the lights. Then we kiss them (according to how many kisses and caresses they want), then we give them a glass of water. Kiss again. ANd we say night night.
The process to help ds falling asleep independently has been very long (and using a softie approach, apart from 2 days of my own version of cc) and so I'm just scared of having to go through this again. Which is probably not the case. And it wouldn't be a big deal even if it was, I know. But I do panic. (and feel guilty)

Sputnik, lol I keep telling ds to think about nice things... I even shared with him the trick I used as a child to help me relax: I imagined I was a baby being pushed around in a pram . He was unimpressed, tbh...

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 20:12

Sput are you feeling a bit better?

OP posts:
beforesunrise · 05/02/2009 20:19

franca i didnt read all your posts but i gather your ds doesnt want to go to bed? my dd1 is a bit younger but she resists it a lot. we use: audio cds, lots of toys books etc that she can bring to bed to keep her company, etc etc

is he 6? i think at that age i started to "tell myself stories" when i went to bed, something i still do and love... perhaps you can encourage him doing the same?

do you know if he is scared, anxious etc?

beforesunrise · 05/02/2009 20:25

ok i read (skimmed!) the thread and i see the bedtime issue is a lot more complex than my simplistic message. sorry!
tbh you sound like an amazing mummy, so stop feeling guilty and scared! how about asking him what he thinks would make him feel better and taking it from there? you don't have to accept everything (eg if he says i want you to stay wth me the whole time you can say-ok, i'll stay, but only for 5 minutes how is that?).

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 20:28

BS: in the last 10 days/2 weeks he's been finding increasingly difficult falling asleep. It took him 1 hr and a half yesterday. He's also having nightmares for the first time in his life.
Apparently everything is fine with him. Wouldn't say if there is anything wrong at school, though I noticed that he is not making the same progress he was until a few weeks ago (which I know it's totally normal)

I used to tell myself stories (and still do) too! I pretended to be candy candy (seriously)

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 20:30

Thanks again ragazze for your help .I really appreciate. I think tonight is a bit better, I think he might be asleep (put them to bed a bit later than usual)

Evening, everyone.

(Tentatively) glad to hear that DS had a better night tonight, franca.

Bucharest - lots of comment on the strikes in the Guardian today: Toynbee & Milne. Did you see?

beforesunrise - hope work went ok today.

Pippi - yup, will tell you all about house (with pictures too, if I can) if it all goes ahead... Fingers crossed...

Sputnik - hello there.

Rosa - how was your busy day?

Brange - dribbling on the settee, eh? Shexy! [Sean Connery emoticon]

God, I'm knackered after our early start today

Penthesileia · 05/02/2009 20:44

hot - did you read after all?

Sunflower - how are you this evening? Tired, I guess?

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 20:49

Hi Penthe, how was your day?

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 05/02/2009 20:53

Not bad, thanks. Had two sets of tea with two different friends (lots of biscuits - hooray). One a friend I hardly see as she's in the US now, but is over in Europe for research. Great to see her. I miss her a lot. The other with a new friend (actually a friend of DH) who is just lovely, but has been badly treated by her ex, so we had a good bitch about it.

DD's day, on the other hand, revolved around poo. Following her mammoth jobbie this morning, she did a further 3. That's my girl!

She ate lots of lasagne tonight.
