Morning all
September's thread was very long so thought best to start a new thread as Brooke77 suggested too!

Am off to London again tomorrow for DS1 has a tv show casting, anyone have anything coming up?

Any of you had contract's through from UAN yet?

joflow.. in ur position, i'd def wait to hear back from UA. my dd is 2, so very pleased she's been accepted at KL as its a tricky age and a few agencies have told me they dont take on 2 yr olds at all !
my ds was with SW when he was younger and did very well
my brother was a successful model (long time ago now) with ES, they've been around a very long time.. i've also heard they are better for babies.
bet het, who really knows and yes i totally agree you have to go with what feels right !! I really like the look of KL, just undecided whether to wait on UA as I know its a a long selection process.

brooke77 · 26/10/2008 10:49

joflow.. they'll usually give u a bit longer if u ask !

joflow · 26/10/2008 10:57

Hi brooke

The thing is if ES are good for babies why wouldnt they be good for toddlers as same clients want babies and toddler group? and if they have which they do good client base why wouldnt they use them this is what i dont get.

The only thing is when you talk to them they r not warm like SW who are soooooooo friendly. They r polite but then friends or not it who can get the work. U/A i had not heard of untill i was on this thread but when i called a media company they also mentioned them so they r highly rated but if i wait icould loose out. i will get to next week and see if they respond to say if he has been selected then make my mind up. At the momment its SW or ES.

Have KL gave you a time limit to accept or not? What agencies would not take on 2?

brooke77 · 26/10/2008 11:06

BB and NC told me they dont take on 2 yr olds..
I think UA are deciding around the time their books shut as to who they want to see.. then there would be a consultation and then a week or so wait to find out.. so poss a month to go before you would know !!
KL havent given me a time limit, I have a form to return as and when.. obviously they wont wait around for me forever tho !

joflow · 26/10/2008 11:23

Hi brooke

IMO i would go with KL as they wont wait too long as they have people applying all the time and dont like to take on children with same look. I met a mum on job who was KL and her lo was very successful had loads of work and she rated them highly. I feel if U/A were really keen on a child they would sign them quickly one mum on other thread was taken on by U/A without proccess but i am not suprised as would have been snaped up by another.

Goodluck

Hi All.
Wonder if anyone can give me a bit of advice.
My Dts are 9 and we've never done anything like this before but were approached by someone from an agency. I've googled them and they seem above board but want some cash.
Is that normal? I'm a writer and my agent just gets a % of my earnings.
Also if we do go for this how time consuming is it? Will DTs have to miss much school?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

lea23 · 26/10/2008 18:05

Thanks brooke77 thats nice to know. Fingers crossed she will get some work with them! She is nearly 10 months old. How long did it take to get ur first casting/job with rascals? How old is your dd?

joflow · 26/10/2008 18:35

hi Litchick

It is normal to pay somethink towards the cost of web page and photos but some companies charge more than others but are still very good. For good advice look at Alba site just put in google.

Goodluck

Litchick · 26/10/2008 19:13

Thank you.

brooke77 · 27/10/2008 08:31

hi lea.. dd is 2 now, was about 6 weeks until we had our 1st casting with rascals.

hi litchick.. which agency approached you?

Yes, most companies do ask for admin/website fees etc, but you still have to be careful of rogue companies, there are a few about.
Regarding time off, very difficult to gauge.. most castings are after school, a lot of work is during school hours, but can also be in the hols or weekends. Plus it all depends on how much work your children are offered.. could be loads, could be none !! Good luck with it !

brooke77 · 27/10/2008 08:33

Question to KL mums.. do you know how much time they give to accept their offer of representation? many thanks !

Litchick · 27/10/2008 08:54

That's interesting 77.
Read on this thread yesterday the names of some of the bigger agencies and googled them and, yes, they do all seem to charge something.
The agency that approached us was Scallywags.

brooke77 · 27/10/2008 08:57

Scallywags are highly reputable and very good.
My ds used to be with them when he was younger and did very well.
There are other top agencies to try that dont have such high start up fees though..
UA, BB, KL and MOT.
I'd imagine that twins are highly sought after (!) so prob a good idea for you to shop around !

joflow · 27/10/2008 09:16

Hi

Anyone help what agency do you think has higher end of market SW or ES?

scottishAnnie · 27/10/2008 09:39

Hi, Went to Burberry on Friday and as someone else already commented there were hundreds for kids there. Not a good first casting. If that is typical not sure that modelling is for me or DS. By the time he got taken he was fed up and did one of this staged 'i'll smile cos you asked me to' type smiles. I wont hold my breath !!

lyndall · 27/10/2008 09:45

Brooke, I do not know I'm afraid but we were deciding between two agencies when we were accepted by KL. I sat on the paperwork whilst deciding but then received a call from KL over two weeks later with a casting (they did not mention the unreturned paperwork). They must then assume you wish to join them since you have applied to them and immediately start looking for work for your child. That was our experience anyway.

joflow · 27/10/2008 09:56

Hi

Sorry that sounds bad what would you say are the top 5 london agents

marymay · 27/10/2008 10:25

scottishAnnie ...Weve been to quite a few castings and that by far was the worst,so dont be put off.

liahGeneMutatedMonster · 27/10/2008 11:03

top 5 i would say are

UA
KL
BB
SW
then i'd be kinda stuck . I'd say Bizzy kids are doing really well and Elisabeth smith always get work but for whom and which sort of kids i don't really know anymore.

We are with Kl, and rarely see es at the same places as us.

Don't know if that helps.

To all that went to Burberry, they are always like that, but someone has to get the job. My ds has worked for them.

Onthebeach · 27/10/2008 11:05

scottish annie, we were at burberry too, it was awful, I wouldn't of bothered if I knew it would be like that as it wasn't fair on ds. My ds was exactly the same as yours by the time it came to his turn, he was fed up, it was just too long, esp for a 4 yr old.
Luckily it was not our first casting, and the others we have been to have not been anything like that and ds has enjoyed them.
Hope you get a better one soon, or even better, a straight job.

brooke77 · 27/10/2008 11:22

hi joflow.. i would say top london agencies are UA, KL, BB, R and SW.. very difficult to really say though !!

hi scottishannie.. you often do have to wait around at castings, they are all quite different.. many are quite well organised, but many are a bit "all over the place ", particulary commerical castings. I always take plenty of books and snacks for my lo's !!
