Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 10:08

mmmm not sure, but it is quite interesting. (actually I specialized in history of industry at university ). Main problem of southern italy (before unification) was that it was "periferica" to the scambi commerciali that northern italy had with more industrialized countries. Another big problem came after ww2 when big industries (mainly public) were set up in areas in the south where the population had still close links to the agricoltura. It takes a while before a societa' turns from agricola to industriale...

Anyway, sorry, I got carried away .
I never watch rete4 as well, but during channel surfing I notice their programmazione. I'm looking forward for today Paola Cortellesi's show on rai3. I also like fabio fazio, and always enjoy the gialappa's band when it's on. Got also sucked by isola dei famosi this year

Yes, rai used to have great fictions... a few yrs ago it had one called compagni di scuola with a very fresh scamarcio. Now, THAT was good.

Ups and last week I got hooked by otto e mezzo on la7, they interviewed Padoa Schioppa and I found him really good.

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 10:17

Nooo, not Isola dei Famosi. DP keeps trying to watch it but I always turn it over[evil emoticon].

That is interesting what you say about industry in the south. I must read up on it some more, am woefully ignorant of most Italian history. I know about the agricultural to industrial society problem, I studied modern Chinese and Japanese history, as well as Russian political history (couldn't avoid that!).

Who has Paola Cortellesi got on today? Saw Mickey Rourke on Fazio, has he had a lip job?

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 10:27

Oh yes, Japanese industrialization is always quoted as an example of "late comers". Have you read Alexander gerschenkron?
I have tons of books on Italian history of industry, if you are interested. I really wanted to go on with the carriera universitaria in that subject, but my lack of self confidence and the state of the universita' made me chicken out. I have no balls.

I got totally hooked on isola dei famosi, I know I know, I'm against reality shows... and there I am. Predico bene e razzolo male.

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 10:43

No I haven't read that (and at $75 a pop not sure it's likely I will). If you do have some good books I'd love to borrow one (or two). I had a brilliant book on modern military history that's worth a read, but it's probably still in the cantina.

Talking of careers, I saw a course for a specific job that I thought would be ideal for you. Can't remember what it is (brain obviously burnt out by crap fiction yesterday but when I do I'll let you know. It was something I read about in a magazine, I think. Oh, why am I so smemorata?

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 10:45

Not that I'm trying to force you into a job, of course, I just thought it was something that might appeal to you.

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 10:49

I'd love to be forced into a job . Do let me know.

After having dropped the idea of a midwifery course (I think it is too demanding timewise) I've been looking at the degrees to become a social worker...

can I put trainers in the washing machine? (does the w. machine get dirty??? )

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/11/2008 10:52

Put them in a pillowcase. Scrape off any crap under the soles first of course. Are they all plastic/stoffa? I put DD's in which were actually real suede and they went all stiff (should read the label properly next time).

I'll wrack my brains re that job. I think it was something freelance where you could gestire i tuoi orari or similar. It also involved English, whih is why I thought of you.

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 10:56

they are di stoffa... I suppose.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/11/2008 10:58

Then that's OK, just don't put them on a hot wash. 40° is fine, or even 30° unless really skanky. I've done it loads of times with DP's pongy trainers.

Bucharest · 06/11/2008 11:00

Hello all.....main problem of the south is everything (says knackered and beaten woman just back from a 2 hr tussle in the Post Office......gah!)

I put trainers in the washing machine- weekly in DH's case.....

May I namedrop? Scamarcio grew up with DH and comes for his dinner when down in these parts.....(all my teenagery girly students beg to sit in his chair.....)

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:04

Noooo! Scamarcio!

Can we come for dinner too?

I've always wanted to go to Puglia.....

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 11:05

what??? Did I hear well? He comes at yours? Tell him I love him. I haven't had a crush on an actor since River Phoenix and that was a looooong time ago.

Yes, lol, southern Italy has lots of problem. And this is very sad. Even sadder is that it feels as if the government has given up on trying to solve this problems

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:07

Bucharest, your DP and mine have the same name (saw you on a certain thread, then being nosey had a gander on the other...).

I bet you feel better for knowing that.

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:08

So, what I meant to say was that I have to come for dinner because of this tenuous link.

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 11:10

Brangelina ti stai arrampicando sugli specchi .

I hope you are happy now. I can't concentrate now, cavoli!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:12

It was worth a try, no?

How about this

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:12

This is better

Brangelina · 06/11/2008 11:14

Damn, I was supposed to be wrangling with a scary computer programme and now I've got to leave in 20 mins.

No self discipline.

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2008 11:16

no self discipline either. this time it's scamarcio's fault
