Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 19/10/2008 21:49

I love peanut butter and marmite on granary bread. With coffee. That might just be me though.

francagoestohollywood · 19/10/2008 21:59

really sput??? (do you dip it in the coffee?)
How's dd btw sputnik? is she happier about the scuola materna?

OP posts:
gio71 · 20/10/2008 07:04

he's just 2 sputnik. he is happy to snack, polishes off merende but meals bore him. It doesnt help that we are still waiting for bloody Ikea to deliver so we have no tables and chairs so mealtimes involves me attempting to get him to sit on the sofa and sit still. Oh and I think if I gave him pasta in bianco every day he'd eat that. he's not a meat fan either

Sputnik · 20/10/2008 09:44

Gio probably the furniture situation is not helping.
FWIW DD was pretty fussy between 2 and 4ish. She did eat plenty quantity wise though and wasn't missing any major food group, just not a great variety. I would just end up giving her what she preferred. She would also eat a big breakfast and lunch then maybe just yogurt and fruit for dinner, wich was ok with me. She is getting much better now though and will at least try stuff. If it's something a bit "different" but I think in theory she should like it, I section off half the plate and get her to finish that before she moves on.

We eat together at weekends but DH gets home so late during the week that's not possible.

Re the peanut butter and marmite, you take a bite of the toast then a sip of coffee (cappucino in my case), and repeat, delicious!

Rosa · 20/10/2008 09:48

Gio understand 100%- I think I posted on this when dd went through ( and still sometimes does) go through this. She still won't eat 100% of what I make for us but always give her a bit anyway. Pasta she has half pasta in bianco and half with sugo and I find that she will eat the bit with sugo most of the times. She wion't eat meat in chunks and I do have fun with fish .I used to make sure there was something that she could eat with hands that she liked - carrot sticks, maybe bit of bread to dunk in soup and then had her music on,and chatted rubbish . She sits at table with us and if she refuses it or don't like it she sits at the table until we have finished and then if she wants fruit she has to eat more dinner. Now she is older no sweets/ chocolate unless clean plate. I find her menu is pretty boring but getting new things in is pretty hard - I am hoping slowly but surely.
Peanut butter can't stand the stuff but coated over chicken and in over like satay would be nice. Peanut biscuits now those I like.

francagoestohollywood · 20/10/2008 12:24

Gio, I think that if he's used to eat at the table, he might also be a bit about eating at the sofa.
Both my children didn't enjoy meat (especially bistecca, which they now like, but only filetto ) at your ds's age, but they would eat meatballs, for instance. Another thing they liked were roasted chicken drums as they could eat them with their hands pretending to be asterix...
I think that being in the middle of a trasloco you are allowed to just serve him pasta in bianco for a week, you'll have more time to experiment once your kitchen is in ordine .
(I really wouldn't worry if he is off meat, it is quite typical with little ones... does he like prosciutto, eggs etc? dd costed me £££ in parma ham when we lived in the uk)

With mine I also noticed that the variety of food they enjoy has widened since they both hit the age of 4 (in my case it also helped that going to english nursery they had the chance to taste food which I don't usually cook)...

mmmm cappuccino.... I wouldn't mind having one now.
Sputnik shall we try and organize the book swap thing?

Anyone wanting to lobby MN Towers for competitions we can enter too, can do so here

francagoestohollywood · 21/10/2008 13:13

where are you all? (feels lonely)

OP posts:
gio71 · 21/10/2008 13:45

Hi Franca (popping in to say hi whilst frantically trying to work while ds sleeps)
Ikea are delivering tomorrow hurrah!
Does anyone else think that 2 year olds are much harder work than newborns or am I looking back with rose coloured specs on??
Tantrum city here in Rome at the moment

Sputnik · 21/10/2008 13:51

Well they are and they aren't.
Moving house is a big upheaval at that age though, they like everthing very predictable.

gio71 · 21/10/2008 13:58

true
am probably being a bit harsh
bless him
ah well got Grandparents out on Friday from UK so that should please him (and me!)

Rosa · 21/10/2008 17:14

Gio - he is probably a bit in limbo like yourselves but expressing himself in a tantrum way. Hopefully things will be better when you have all the furniture there and things will start to resemble normal.
I have dd cold and poor dd2 is getting such a shake with every sneeze and cough - however the aqua materna pelvic floor exercises seem to be working

PippiCalzelunghe · 21/10/2008 19:56

Rosa 'Pippi lucky you that they all lie in' I mentioned it because it never ever happens. usually is 6am 'maaaaaammaaaaaa!!!!'. so do not feel bad about yourself. also felt much more energetic with first pg. mind you all I did was relax. not much of it second time round. at aunty too!

Gio, I thought newborns were hard... now I think not. we have moved when dd1 was two as well... hard. we had problem with sleeping more than food. having said that dd1 went throught that stage as well. not sure what we did (scream? cry? both probably). I thought you became some kind of an expert after the first. in fact it's the opposite, I 'know nothing'!

happychappy · 22/10/2008 08:19

Hi all again. Sorry won't be around for a while. Out picking olives for the next week or so......

Sputnik · 22/10/2008 09:50

Have fun.
It's a perfect olive-picking day

Rosa · 22/10/2008 13:26

Olive picking did it for one season and grape harvesting - had such a laugh and ate like a pig . Hope its a good harvest !
Humid again here so more fog and fun forecast. Last doc app tom will see how he says the baby elephant is getting on !!!

Brangelina · 22/10/2008 15:32

Ooh, I've just seen in the paper that david Beckham might be coming to Milan

Sorry to rush in and rush off with that nugget but I just had to share my excitement. Yes I know he's an airhead but he doesn't have to talk. both Becks and george within a short distance .

Off to pick up DD, will be back later to catch up.

Rosa · 22/10/2008 15:37

Oh no Brange how could you Beckham ..no sorry does totally nothing for me with or without opening his mouth. I am more a Cloneyite or a young Sean Connery !!!! I did hear / see that somewhere as well must have been the TV .
Right its a nice afternoon so am going to try and take dd for a walk / waddle so whats the bet I will be back within an hour as she will want to run in all directions and I can't cope !!!

Brangelina · 22/10/2008 15:41

You need a long piece of elastic Rosa. I thought of getting one for my DD when she was at the all directions stage. It's very warm here still too but I keep seeing people with heavy jackets and wollen scarves . WTF?

Yes I know re Becks, he's not normally my type but I just can't help it. Is it incipient old age do you think?

Right, really am off to get DD or she will be the only one left again.

Rosa · 22/10/2008 15:46

Yes without a doubt you are ancient !!
I have one of those wrist things but she just plays with it and runs round me in circles I was going to use it when have pram and her might have to re think.
Wonder whats happened to Tantik - not heard from her in a while should be lovely up in the mountains.
Right I will also go now as poor thing she could do with fresh air after am in nursery and no doubt will be complaining soon re rain , damp can't go out weather etc etc

francagoestohollywood · 22/10/2008 17:36

Beckham in Milan !?! No, I don't fancy him that much. Used to fancy Clooney, actually I went to see the Cohen movie and he was very attractive.
But as Brangelina knows, at the moment my fav is scamarcio...

francagoestohollywood · 22/10/2008 17:53
